Continuing with our Spring theme, the children took part in a collage activity using a variety of materials to create the structure of a sunflower discovering the different stages of growth. Using their fine motor skills to pick up and place the seeds, strengthening their fingers by ripping and tearing the paper, practising their counting skills to add the correct amount of seeds to their creation and listening skills at storytime for 'Sam Plants a Sunflower' book, learning how to grow them from seeds to full bloom.

Today is the 52nd anniversary of World Earth Day and the children created this wonderful piece of wall art as a reminder.
They have been learning how important it is for them to do their best to keep our earth safe and healthy for future generations. They learnt about restoring damage done, the importance of trees, recycling and trying to live a more sustainable life.

It certainly has!... There is nothing like getting outside to enjoy the start of spring, especially when the 🌞 is out.

The children have been very busy taking part in spring themed activities - planting seeds, learning about springtime vegetables, making & decorating seasonal artwork for our display and topping up their Vitamin D with lots of outdoor play ☀️🌺

What an exciting day the children had yesterday celebrating World Book Day 2022!!

Dressing up as their favourite book characters, creating their own bookmarks and decorating them with lots of different materials - feathers, tissue paper and stickers to use in their book at home. They talked about their favourite books and characters, made up their own stories to share with the other children and had a very busy day in the reading corner.

🐅The Year of the Tiger 🐅

To celebrate the this special occasion in the Chinese calendar the children have been taking part in some fantastic activities. They have learnt about the Chinese Zodiac at story time, why the colours red and gold are used for celebrations and the courageous characteristics of a Tiger.
In creative play they made their tiger masks and paper lanterns and with our cook Kerrie, they made spring rolls and tiger bread, topped off with a traditional Chinese food tasting session.

Our Small Fries enjoyed a fabulously festive Christmas party to complete December's Winter Wonderland theme. ❄️🎄☃️

Party games included snow bowling and pin the nose on the snowman. The children chopped carrots for the reindeers and made bird feeders to hang in their gardens so they had food for the winter months.

They enjoyed a delicious Christmas dinner with all the trimmings made by our fabulous cook Kerri 👨‍🍳🎄🍽️......it really was delicious! Crackers were pulled, Christmas songs were played and lots and lots of dancing.

All topped off with a visit from a very special someone who brought gifts for all of the children 🎅🎁

It is definitely beginning to look a lot like Christmas🎶🎄🎁🦌🎅

The fun and excitement continues as Christmas approaches!!

The children have been taking part in lots of festive activities all themed around our Winter Wonderland experience by using different resources and materials to explore textures from both inside and outside as part of the activities, further developing their motor skills, number counting and writing skills.
They have had some wonderful conversations about the magic of Christmas, telling each other about their trees at home, where the presents go under the tree after a very special visitor has been 🎅🎄

Our Winter Wonderland theme has begun at Small Fries and the children are full of excitement. The tree is decorated, the Christmas songs are playing and preschool, toddlers and babies have been taking part in development activities and creating wintery decorations to fill the room with for our lead up to Christmas.
They have been developing understanding of their natural environment by discussing the change from autumn to winter, creating snow globes and snowmen from different shapes and sizes card and exploring snow, using new vocabulary to describe the texture and making reindeer food parcels to take home for a very special night coming soon!🎄

He is back and causing all sorts of mischief at the nursery whilst the children are at home!!
Helping himself to breakfast, sliding around on the moped floors, having a go on the reception computer and checking out our Christmas Tree!

The children cannot wait to see what he has been up to every morning, this year Elf is very funny but also nice and tidy, he does not leave a mess..........well, so far!!

Over the past week our preschool children have took part in activities to help them practice their road safety skills 🛣️🚦🚫🚗🧒👧

They practised using the zebra crossing, waiting at the traffic lights, looking both ways before and when crossing the road and many more road safety codes.

Our Small Fries enjoyed a wonderful teddy bear picnic with their favourite teddy from home as part of our 'Wear your PJ's to Nursery' day in aid of Children in Need 🧒
Pudsey bear colouring competition, favourite bear related story time books, indoor picnic and raffle prizes to be won (tickets still on sale!).

Thank you to Coventry Rugby Club and Coventry City FC for the prizes.

Small Fries had a very special visitor yesterday - Sergeant Jones.

As part of our Remembrance Day activities the children learned all about how the poppy became the symbol of remembrance and why we wear them. They also learnt the reason the two minute silence is held on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.

They marched, learnt how to salute, discovered why soldiers wear camouflage and tried on a real uniform!

Thank you so much Sergeant Jones, the children were in awe.
