GCSE Examination Results - Record breaking year for progress for Collingwood students!
We are delighted with the performance of our students at GCSE level where almost 80% of entries were at grades 9-4. Our performance in the core subjects was particularly pleasing as was the 25% of entries that were graded 9-7.
Despite all the challenges for students and staff over the last few years, and the uncertainty regarding exams and grade boundaries, we are absolutely delighted to have achieved an ALPS (progress) score of 4 (‘very good’, top 40% nationally) for GCSE level, just missing out on an ALPS 3 (excellent) by 0.01%. This represents the best validated progress score ever achieved at Collingwood at this level!
We must highlight how well the students have done in making it through an incredibly tough few years in preparation for their GCSEs. They have been impacted by the pandemic, teacher industrial action and have had limited experience of external assessments. The resilience and commitment the students have shown under such conditions is astonishing and we are very proud of their achievements.
We must also commend the excellent work by staff in preparing the students for these examinations and the support they provided to ensure strong progress outcomes.
Eden Tanner, Principal, said ‘Congratulations to all our students on achieving these excellent results in such exceptionally challenging circumstances. I want to highlight the outstanding teaching and pastoral care provided by our dedicated staff as well as the encouragement and support of parents.’
Well done to all our students who have worked incredibly hard to achieve these results!

We are very pleased to report some outstanding achievements by our students in their A level and BTEC qualifications this summer.
Students achieved a 100% pass rate in all exams, the A* percentage is higher than 2019 (the last year of comparable data) and nearly three quarters of the cohort gained an A*-C grade.
Most importantly, we are delighted all of our students have achieved the results they require to go on to their chosen destinations to continue their studies.
Mr Eden Tanner, Principal, said, ‘I must highlight how well all students have done in making it through an incredibly challenging few years. This year group have had much to contend with - the pandemic, when their year group were the ones who lost the most in-college time, this year group’s limited experience of external assessments and, most recently, the impact of the teacher industrial action. The resilience they have shown under such conditions is remarkable and we are extremely proud of their achievements.
I also want to acknowledge the excellent teaching and pastoral care provided by our dedicated staff, who have had to deal with very challenging circumstances this year, as well as the encouragement and support of parents.’
Congratulations to our students who have worked incredibly hard to achieve these results!

On Saturday 12 August, some of the Status Racing team braved the unsettled forecast and headed to the Camberley Car Show, along with 249 other motor vehicles to show off one of our cars, Status Quo. It was honour and a privilege to be invited. Thanks to our governor, Cllr Shaun Garrett for getting the ball rolling. We had a lovely time engaging with our local community and sharing our passion for F24 Greenpower racing. We now have a new sponsor www.airbagman.co.uk which is an exciting development. If you are interested in sponsoring the team, please contact the College.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, experienced and dependable Premises and Facilities Assistant (Resident on Site) to join our friendly, professional team. Further Details can be found on the college's vacancy page.

Status Quo Qualifies for the F24 Final at Goodwood!
On Saturday 1 July Collingwood’s Status Racing team travelled to the Ford Dunton Track in Basildon. What a truly brilliant result for the Status Racing Team on the most difficult and technical track so far - banking corner, tight chicane and a tighter hairpin corner to navigate.
Both cars and all drivers performed brilliantly in Race 1, with both Quo and Quattro finishing. Race 2 was just as exciting with near misses and collisions. Unfortunately, Quattro lost in a quarrel with a haybale in the chicane and had to retire.
However, Quo was on lightning form, two laps ahead of our nearest competitor until the penultimate lap. With Ben's skilful driving, he conserved enough battery power to roll over the finish line in 1st place to enormous team cheers!
Not only did the team secure a WIN and qualification for Status Quo into the scratch car final, we also won two additional awards: Solid Edge award for Engineering (3rd time's a charm) and the Greenpower Sustainability award. It really was an outstanding team effort.
Next race is Dunsfold in September with the aim for Quattro to qualify for the kit car final.

Our very own Collingwood 'Read'ies, is back! If you are looking for some inspiration to read something different for the last few weeks of term or over the summer, have a look at what our Collingwood staff have been reading this year!"
First up we have Mrs Samuda...

Status Racing Heat at Lotus Hethel - In extremely hot and sunny conditions, both teams kept their 'cool' to put down some good lap times. Status Quo finished 7th in its scratch build class and 24th overall. Status Quattro finished 9th in its class and 15th overall. It was a long but successful race meet. Although, we did not return with an award this time, we received amazing feedback from the Senior Greenpower Pit Marshall commending our team on their professional and courteous conduct and slick driver changes in the pit lines. All students were an absolute credit to the college and definitely embodied all the college values (Integrity, Aspiration, Achievement, Inclusiveness and Perseverance).
Roll on Saturday, when we race again at Ford Dunton where we are looking to qualify for the Goodwood Final in October.

We love working with our feeder schools and are looking forwards to hosting a Debating day next week. Feedback from our STEM evening has been excellent and we received this lovely email from one of our feeder schools:
“I just wanted to share that our children truly flourished in the STEM event on Monday, so much so they are leading their own STEM event this morning with some of their peers who were unable to attend. It already has the children thinking about which clubs they are eagerly wanting to join in Collingwood!"

Staff were delighted today to be treated to some incredible baking from Sophie, who finished her exams this week. She baked these to say thank you for everything staff have done for her over the last 5 years. Thank you Sophie!

Emma Gilmour visits Collingwood College
On Monday 22 May we were delighted that Emma Gilmour visited Collingwood College. Emma is McLaren's first ever female driver and she gave an inspirational talk to our Year 7 students and the Status Racing team about her journey so far and her career to date which resonated with our students as it linked to our values of aspiration, perseverance, inclusiveness, integrity and achievement.
This was followed by 15 minute question and answer session before Emma visited our Technology Department and spent time with the Status Racing team who were able to showcase their cars and discuss the amazing progress that they have made over the years.
It really was an inspirational visit and special thanks to Head Student Sophie Cherry who organised the event.

Year 7 Boys Triumph in District Final!
On Thursday 11 May our Year 7 team travelled to Aldershot Town FC's EBB Stadium to play in the District Cup Final. Understandably they were nervous – our opponents were Tomlinscote who had beaten us in our first game of the season 2-0 and are a very good side.
We had a bright start, with the game well in our control, but as expected Tomlinscote began to generate some concerns for us. It was with delight then, that nearing half time, after a great 3rd man run, that Freddie H***e popped up to lob the on-rushing goalkeeper.
Quietly confident at half time the team fell into a classic trap of overplaying at the back which led to a mix up and a subsequent penalty that Tomlinscote converted.
Penalties!
Whether you convert or not, it is always nerve-wracking and takes great personal courage to step up. So well done to our six penalty-takers, but with Christian Higgs in goal we always have an edge especially when he is doing his Bruce Grobbelaar legs (the older ones reading this will know who he is, the younger ones – look it up on YouTube!). Eventually we triumphed in sudden Death 5-4!
The lads deserved this after a great season (they are a smashing group of young men) – I am already looking forward to next season.
Trials/training will resume in September – as always all are welcome – we move to 11-a-side, so I am looking for more players.
Squad: Christian Higgs, Leon Jessop, Josh Mears, Josh Page, Harry Phillips, Eli Loveday, Adam Robson, Freddie H***e, Jacob Sturt, Ethan Clark, Bradley McKinnon, Will Harris, Aston Dempsey, Sam Padina

Eco Club tree-planting complete: After months of hard work, the Eco Club has finally finished planting the trees in celebration of our late Queen's Green Canopy.
We began this task in the Autumn term, and it has been incredible witnessing the dedication, commitment and enthusiasm displayed by those involved. We managed to plant a whopping 100 trees, ranging from Silver Birch, Dogwood, Wild Cherry and more!
As you may be aware, a recent coronation has just taken place. Discussions have already begun about the possibility of planting MORE trees in celebration of this historical event, so watch this space!
If you are interested in joining Eco Club or want to find out more, come along to the club after College on Thursday. We meet in M3!

Mental Health Awareness Week - Webinars for Parents and Students

On Sunday 7 May, four of our talented musicians opened the Coronation event at Frimley Lodge Park, Frimley Green. We were invited personally by the Mayor who was impressed by our talent in the Spring Celebration Event. Four months later and ‘The Four Wise Men’ made their debut performance. The band consists of Liam Camden on the Sax, Josh Carlisle on Drums, Seb Noble on Keys and Archie Baker on the Electric Guitar.
We had the honour of opening the show on the day, where the band played popular songs from history, including ‘Roxanne’, ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’, ‘Easy’ and ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ as well as an improvised number. Students were confident and professional throughout the morning and worked as an excellent team, showing the public that Collingwood truly does have talent!
The organisers were so impressed that they have invited the band back to open the Frimley Carnival this year in July! It was great to see so many of our Collingwood students at the event as well as the friends and family of ‘The Four Wise Men’ who came to support them on the day.
