Mini moons what will you do ?

The lovely invention had so many opportunities some children decided to create a construction site while others decided to make marks .

When toddlers are given the freedom to play independently, they can use their imagination to create new scenarios and games, which fosters creativity.

Full Moons have been exploring 🧪

Engaging preschool children through sensory experiences is a powerful way to enhance their learning and development.

Following the children’s interest in the outdoors we bought in some garden items that the children have enjoyed mixing , mashing and squeezing to create some lovely scents !

🔢Maths skills in Full Moons 🔢

Vocabulary Expansion was the main focus of the activity.Learning maths introduces children to new vocabulary and concepts like more , less , fewer …

But the activity also helped developed other areas of learning .

Activities like counting objects, sorting, and using math manipulatives improve fine motor skills.

Understanding shapes, patterns, and spatial relationships enhances physical coordination and spatial awareness.

📏🔢It’s been all about Numbers in Full moons last week !

Early exposure to numbers and measurement lays the groundwork for more complex mathematical concepts.

Children have been interested in learning to recognize numbers, count objects, and understand basic arithmetic, which are essential skills for future learning

Minis moons have been talking colours but there was so much more to this activity than meets the eye .

Language Development 🔴🔷🟪

While it may look like a simple shape sorting activity its purpose was much more !

Shape sorting was used to increase vocabulary as preschool children learnt the names of shapes and colours. It also encouraged communication to allow children to add more description in their general conversation with their peers and practitioners .

✋ Strengthening those hand muscles 💪

Mini moons have been working hard to strengthen those hand muscles that are so important to work on for pre writing skills !

Tweezers require precise movements of the fingers and hand muscles, helping to develop fine motor skills necessary for tasks like writing and tying shoelaces.

Children must coordinate their hand movements with what they see in order to grasp objects with tweezers, improving hand-eye coordination.

🧊 Mini Moons ice exploration 🧊

Releasing objects from is fun and educational activity for children, offering several benefits:

🧊Breaking and chipping away at the ice requires precise movements, which helps strengthen the muscles in their hands and fingers.

🧊working to break it encourages patience and persistence as children work towards their goal.

🧊As the ice melts, children experience different textures and temperatures, engaging their senses of touch and sight.

🧊Figuring out the best way to melt or break the ice to release the object inside fosters critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

🧊Encourages imaginative play as children think of different ways to release the objects.

✂️ Developing fine motor skills ✂️

Developing cutting skills in Full MoonS is important for their fine motor development and readiness for school. Practitioners started by providing child-safe scissors and introducing simple cutting activities like cutting along straight lines, curves, and eventually cutting flowers and creating their own arrangements allowing children to use the skills they develop to be creative .

We know many of our families have been celebrating many different religious events over the last few days .

Full moons and Mini Moons have really enjoyed learning about these religious days and traditional customs like applying henna and sharing meals. Our Early years practitioners gave children opportunities to take part in these activities.

Learning about different religious festivals and traditions helps children understand and appreciate the diversity of cultures around the world. It promotes empathy, tolerance, and respect for people of different backgrounds.

Understanding religious festivals and traditions can foster a sense of belonging and community among children. It allows them to connect with others who celebrate these festivals and promotes inclusivity and mutual understanding.

Photos from Banana Moon Day Nursery's post 11/04/2024

Some our friends in Full Moons have taken a few days off to celebrate Eid ! Practitioners took this opportunity to teach children about the festival it started with a book and then lead to some children creating a moon and others making decorations!

Learning about different religions helps children develop empathy, tolerance, and respect for diverse beliefs and cultures from an early age.
