Well done Newbridge IC.

Congratulations to our Year 12 pupil, Katy Knox, prizewinner at the recent Southern Regional College, Occupational Studies Awards Ceremony. Katy won the prize for Endeavour, and was also commended for her 100% attendance. Well done Katy!

Children at Maine IPS were inspired during World Book Day 2018 when Nick Sharratt visited their school. Following this the children decided to honour Nick and have a Nick inspired day. The young people created their own book and yesterday they had the opportunity for a quick catch up with Nick at Belfast International Airport. Nick was thrilled and so touched by the efforts the children of Maine IPS have put into this. Well done to all at Maine IPS and to the Book Trust NI for supporting their work.

25 years on, how Lough View Integrated Nursery and PS has grown. #IntegratedEducation #EducatingChildrenTogether

This year Lough View turned 25, but did you know that Mrs Gordon was one of the two original teachers? Today, to celebrate the anniversary, she met with all the original mums, without whose faith in integrated eduction Lough View would never have existed. In the photos you can see the first class of children as they were then and again at the age of 18. Those original children are now 30 and scattered all over the world, so we couldn’t get a photo of them all together. Oddly Mrs Gordon looks exactly the same as she did 25 years ago. We’re going to ask if she’ll sell her beauty secrets to raise funds for the Parents’ Council!

Carl Frampton packs a punch on school visit

Carl “The Jackal” Frampton in Fermanagh at Erne Integrated College. #TheJackal #CarlFrampton #Belfast #NICIEBelfast #IntegratedEducation #EducatingChildrenTogether #ErneIntegratedCollege Carl Frampton surprised students in Enniskillen earlier this week when he officially opened the Tom Noble Building at Erne Integrated College.

Carl “The Jackal” Frampton MBE, World Champion Boxer and NICIE patron delighted guests and students at Erne Integrated College, Enniskillen this week, when he officially opened the Tom Noble Building which houses the new health and fitness suite as well as excellent sporting and study facilities at the school Erne Integrated College

Carl, who famously became a three-time world champion over two weight divisions, is a huge supporter of Integrated Education, particularly in his role as an active patron of the Northern Ireland Council for Integrated Education (NICIE).

Paying tribute to the work of all of those involved in Integrated Education, Carl said, “I am delighted to offer my support for Integrated Education and it’s particularly nice to be working with the schools and meeting the young people. I like to do whatever I can to support NICIE in the vital work they do with parents, schools and young people to help bring more people together in Northern Ireland and make it a better place for all of us. I have really enjoyed meeting everyone in Erne Integrated College today. I have been completely overwhelmed by the welcome and wonderful reception I received here.”

Jimmy Jackson-Ware, Principal of Erne Integrated College said it was a great honour to have Carl Frampton visit our school and officially open our new Tom Noble Building. The entire college community was very excited to meet such a great ambassador for N. Ireland and integrated education.

Erne Integrated College has been opened since 1994 and in September will celebrate its silver jubilee. In its short history, the college has made an indelible impact on the local community and has become an inextricable part of the fabric of Fermanagh and its wider environs. The story of the College is intricately weaved through the story of the troubles in Fermanagh. The impetus for Integrated Education in Enniskillen came about through the tragic death of local teenager Paul Maxwell on Lord Mountbatten’s boat in 1979 and the Enniskillen bombing atrocity in 1987.
Despite the dark beginnings of the College, the college opened its doors on the day of the IRA ceasefire and the opening was a symbolic beacon of hope for Northern Ireland and other troubled societies throughout the world. This new addition to the facilities on offer at the school was dedicated to the school’s first Principal, Mr Tom Noble, who sadly passed away last week. It’s a wonderful tribute to a very great man and all in the school community felt very honoured to have Carl Frampton MBE carrying out the official opening.
As an integrated college, students enjoy participation in all of the major sporting disciplines including soccer, rugby, netball, boxing, golf, hurling, swimming and rowing.

A conversation with Year 9 about #perspectives for Integrated Education Week NICIE Belfast

It was six men of Indostan,
To learning much inclined,
Who went to see the Elephant
(Though all of them were blind),
That each by observation
Might satisfy his mind.

The First approach'd the Elephant,
And happening to fall
Against his broad and sturdy side,
At once began to bawl:
"God bless me! but the Elephant
Is very like a wall!"

The Second, feeling of the tusk,
Cried, -"Ho! what have we here
So very round and smooth and sharp?
To me 'tis mighty clear,
This wonder of an Elephant
Is very like a spear!"

The Third approach'd the animal,
And happening to take
The squirming trunk within his hands,
Thus boldly up and spake:
"I see," -quoth he- "the Elephant
Is very like a snake!"

The Fourth reached out an eager hand,
And felt about the knee:
"What most this wondrous beast is like
Is mighty plain," -quoth he,-
"'Tis clear enough the Elephant
Is very like a tree!"

The Fifth, who chanced to touch the ear,
Said- "E'en the blindest man
Can tell what this resembles most;
Deny the fact who can,
This marvel of an Elephant
Is very like a fan!"

The Sixth no sooner had begun
About the beast to grope,
Then, seizing on the swinging tail
That fell within his scope,
"I see," -quoth he,- "the Elephant
Is very like a rope!"

And so these men of Indostan
Disputed loud and long,
Each in his own opinion
Exceeding stiff and strong,
Though each was partly in the right,
And all were in the wrong!

So, oft in theologic wars
The disputants, I ween,
Rail on in utter ignorance
Of what each other mean;
And prate about an Elephant
Not one of them has seen!
