Halloween activities!

26/10/2023

Many people believe a childminder is ‘just a babysitter’ but in fact we have to have the following training and knowledge, including (and not limited to):

•Paediatric first aid
•Safeguarding training
•(CPD) continuous professional development •Evidence the Understanding of child development.
•EYFS (early years foundation stage)- the same Framework nurseries and preschools follow)
•Early years educator training or other Home based training
•keep records and are self employed
•OFSTED or (CMA) childminder agency registered
•Regular inspections (same as that of a nursery and preschool)
•DBS checks
•keeping up to date with current legislation and guidelines
•working with other professionals such as social workers, speech and language Therapists, physiotherapists

Autumn activities and more.......

Photos from Lisa's Childminding's post 05/10/2023

This week we explored the Autumn table! The children took particular interest in the spiders so we extended play singing ' incy, wincy spider' and showing the children what happens in the nursery rhyme but using water, shoots and spiders outside!

The final week of the school holidays complete and what a lovely week its been!

What direction would you let your's travel? 💭

#axkid #rearfacing #arrivesafe 18/08/2023

Watch this 👀...... this is why all the little ones rearface in my car! It's scary how many car seats on the market are unsafe ( just because they are legal doesn't make them safe). Do you own research on rearfacing. It's crazy how many people forward face their young children.

Some examples of why people tell me they forward face their young children.

⭐️ They cry and moan if I rearface them ( um ok would you let them run in the road if they moaned about holding your hand)

⭐️ There is no room for their legs ( most children don't like legs dangling and will curl legs up anyway)

⭐️ They will break their legs if we crash ( I mean would you rather a broken leg or internal decapitation)

Research! Research! Research!

With all the children in my care growing so fast, I have just invested in more extended rear facing car seats !

🌟 Did you know its 5 times safer for children under 4 to travel rear facing! 🌟

🌟🌟 Car Seats 🌟🌟

As a Childminder my number one priority is the safety of all the children in my care. And people who know me well will know that car seat safety is a huge passion of mine!

🌟Most of my parents are aware that I already rearfaced all children to 18kg in my van. I have bough a new extended rear facing (ERF) car seat and will by more as i require them which take up to 25kg in weight, this is roughly 6-7 years old. As I only childmind under 5s, this will allow all the children to rear face whilst with me and means your children will be driven around in the safest seats on the market! 🌟

If your child is under 25kg it is NEVER too late to turn them back to rear facing. It is 5 x safer for children to travel this way as opposed to forward facing.

🙈 Common Myths to rear facing 🙈

❌️... My car isn't big enough to fit a rear facing car seat in...

✔️ Rear facing car seats can have extremely compact fittings. They often don't take up any more space than a forward facing seat.

❌️ ... Children look uncomfortable when rear facing... plus where do their legs go?

✔️ Children naturally want to bend their legs rather than have them dangling and will easily find a comfortable position for them.

❌️ ... Turning your child forward facing at 15months or 9kg is not a milestone.

✔️ It is a huge step down in your child's safety to turn them forward facing at such a young age.

❌️ ... My child will not want to face backwards.

✔️ For the last 2 years all 0-4 year olds have rear faced in my car/van and not one has got upset about the direction they have travelled in. They don't know any different with me 🤷‍♀️.

I can personally recommend the Axkid Minikid 2.0 as excellent ERF car seats.

🌟 I can also personally recommend Simply Safe Car Seats who have been amazing at helping me check the seats were suitable for my van and helped me decide which seats to buy. 🌟

If any of my parents would ever like to try one of my ERF car seats in their car to see the size and fitting etc then you are always more than welcome!
