Did you know today is World Menopause Day, or that October is menopause awareness month?

By starting conversations and raising awareness of perimenopause and menopause we help break the stigma and raise awareness of the support options available to women.

Join me this November for a Menopause Yoga workshop to soothe hot emotions and menopause rage.

The workshop presents a positive perspective on menopause and empowers women by sharing a toolkit of techniques to manage menopause symptoms. You’ll get to hear facts about nutrition, exercise, supplements, and HRT, and explore how yoga poses, breathing and meditation practices can support symptoms many women experience during menopause.

The workshop creates a safe and supportive space to share experiences and learn from one another, and encourages journaling and self-study to help unlock wisdom to guide each woman on her unique journey.

There’ll be 90-minute yoga practice to soothe hot emotions and menopause rage by releasing physical and emotional tension. This practice encourages women to face the fear of change, befriend their hot emotions, and honour their inner goddess.

The workshop is beneficial to women in any stage of menopause and to any woman wishing to learn more about the menopause. A regular yoga practice is not essential.

Menopause Yoga aims to educate and empower women so they can embrace change as they transition into menopause or Second Spring

There goes summer and here comes autumn 👋

As we move into September, and a new season, it’s a great time to refocus and forge new routines, or restart practices and rituals that nourish our heart, mind, and body.

This month I’ll be exploring backbends and focussing on the heart chakra, or anahata chakra, as we open our ❤️ to the beauty and love around us, within us, and in the natural world as autumns unfolds 🍂 Expect some playful flowing sequences as we move towards king dancer or Natarajasana.

This is where you’ll find me this month:

🍂Tuesday, 19:00 – 20:00 – warm slow flow Twisted Yoga

🍂Thursday, 18:45 – 20:00 – all level flow at Subud Barnet Centre, 97 East Barnet Road, EN4 8RF

I’m looking forward to seeing some of you back on your mat over the coming weeks.

Happy Summer Solstice ☀️and Happy International Yoga Day🧘🏻‍♀️

I don’t know about you but I love this point of the year. We’re at the beginning of the summer with endless possibilities in front of us ❤️

I view the solstice as a time to stand still, take stock, leave behind what no longer serves me and move forward into the light with a renewed energy and focus.

What does the solstice mean to you?

The solstice also coincides with International Yoga Day – a day to recognise and celebrate all things yoga.

So here’s one of my favourite mantras 💕

Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu

This Sanskrit mantra translates to read: May all beings everywhere be happy and free, and may the thoughts, words, and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all.

Do you have any favourite mantras or quotes?

I’m very pleased to share that I am now an accredited menopause yoga teacher

Last month I was lucky enough to complete the fantastic in-person intensive 40 hour course with Menopause Yoga learning so much about how yoga can help to alleviate menopause symptoms.

This is an area of special interest to me as I am currently navigating perimenopause, and I am excited to be able to share my learnings and support women on their menopause journey.

I am busy planning some workshops for this summer so keep an eye out for updates.

Hello April 👋

I do hope you’ve been able to make the most of the longer days.

As we continue to move into spring, and now that the clocks have moved forward, my Thursday evening classes will be starting while it’s still light and it will still be a little light when we finish. It really does feel lovely to practice in the natural light.

This month we’ll be exploring moving with kindness and love as we start on a journey uncovering the Yamas – these are ethical practices applied to our interaction with the world, and the starting point of the eight limbs of yoga.

Here’s where you’ll find me teaching this month:
❤️Tuesday, 19:00 – 20:00 – warm slow flow Twisted Yoga
❤️Thursday, 18:45 – 20:00 – all level flow at Subud Barnet Centre, 97 East Barnet Road, EN4 8RF
❤️Friday, 11:00 – 12:15 – all level flow at Subud Barnet Centre, 97 East Barnet Road, EN4 8RF

Spring’s here 🌸 Time to take a breath 🌸

Here’s an alternate nostril breathing exercise to try. It’s a very relaxing practice, and should bring balance to mind and body.

🌸Find a comfortable position, keeping the body long and spacious
🌸Take a few breaths bringing awareness to the sensations at the edges of the nostrils
🌸Inhale through both nostrils
🌸Exhale through right nostril, be aware of the sensation of the breath leaving the nostril
🌸Inhale through both nostrils
🌸Exhale through left nostril, be aware of the sensation of the breath leaving the nostril
🌸Repeat for a few rounds, as many as feel comfortable, finishing with the left nostril.

Try this practice without using the hands, or mudra, to direct the breath. Try to tune in to the subtle journey of the breath and the sensation of breathing through alternate nostrils.

Let me know how you get on ❤️

Hello March and welcome spring 👋🌼🌺🌸

Spring is a season of growth, a time for newness, for unfurling into the light. But with all that’s going on in the world it might feel more like a time to retreat and withdraw.

In spring we start to see more balance between light ☀️ and dark 🌙 as the days grow longer and brighter and the nights get shorter.

I’m trying to capture the essence of balance, and bring a sense of equilibrium and steadiness into my practice and group classes. I’ll be exploring alternative nostril breathing and it’s calming effect on mind and body, and I’ll be moving around the mat, taking us on a journey as we ground and rise up in a playful way.

Here’s where you’ll find me teaching this month:
🌼Tuesday, 19:00 – 20:00 – warm slow flow Twisted Yoga
🌼Thursday, 18:45 – 20:00 – all level flow at Subud Barnet Centre, 97 East Barnet Road, EN4 8RF
🌼Friday, 11:00 – 12:15 – all level flow at Subud Barnet Centre, 97 East Barnet Road, EN4 8RF

Looking good 👀

Do we get caught up in how a pose or asana should look?

I’m sure at times we all do. We’re only human after all.

How about approaching things in a different way and concentrating on how a pose feels.

I’ve been exploring skandasana in my personal practice and in class this month.

Starting slowly, feeling into this side lunge posture.

Noticing how the ankle and leg feel.

Moving deeper? Bringing it back? It all depends on how I’m feeling in the moment.

Be curious and give skandasana a go. Let me know how you get on❤️

03/02/2022

Well, that went quick🧭

Goodbye January and hello February👋🏻

Have you noticed that the days are slowly getting longer? Today I looked up from my desk and it was still light at just past 5pm. It made me excited to think that spring is not far away now🌸🌼🌺

With a change of season on the horizon I’ve been thinking about what I can leave behind with winter: rushing, letting small niggles become bigger than they need to be, and packing my diary full to bursting point.

I’ve also been thinking about what I’d like to invite in with the arrival of spring: a sense of calm and ease, appreciation for family, friends and nature, and time for rest and activities that create a sense of equilibrium.

This month I’ll be inviting you to leave behind what no longer serves you and invite in what you’d like to take forward into spring. We’ll be opening our ❤️ and exploring camel pose or ushtrasana, and introducing Ganesha mudra to help us overcome obstacles and give us an extra boost of self-belief.

Here’s where you’ll find me teaching this month:

🔸Tuesday, 19:00 – 20:00 – warm slow flow Twisted Yoga

🔸Thursday, 18:45 – 20:00 – all level flow at Subud Barnet Centre, 97 East Barnet Road, EN4 8RF

🔸Friday, 11:00 – 12:15 – all level flow at Subud Barnet Centre, 97 East Barnet Road, EN4 8RF

Blue Monday 😊 or Blue Monday ☹️?

For me it’s been a Blue Monday 😊

The sun’s been shining ☀️
My work presentation went 👍🏻
I even squeezed in a frosty walk and some time on my mat this morning 🧘🏻‍♀️🚶🏻‍♀️
Not every day is 😊 though.
It’s not always sunny, things don’t always go as planned and some days I find it hard to make time to step on to my mat.

But yoga doesn’t exist just on a mat, it’s not just movement and postures.

I’m learning not to get attached to the outcome, practicing Aparigraha, accepting that things will change.

I’m learning to enjoy the moment and fully embrace it without thinking ahead too much, not always needing to have a plan.

A bit like stepping on my mat with no agenda, just breathing and moving, and wearing blue 😊

12/01/2022

What kind of start has your year got off to?

Mine’s thrown a few challenges my way – work, family life, balancing schedules….⏰📆😤

I’ve had to adapt, reassess and change direction a few times this week. I’d usually find this quite disconcerting and would blame myself for not being prepared, not planning well enough, and generally not being good enough.

Instead of allowing myself to follow this route of negativity and blame I’m instead reframing my thoughts and taking time to breathe, to remind myself that things change, and more importantly to keep calm.

I’ve been using the affirmation ‘I am at my strongest when I am calm’ from both on and off my mat, and have been sharing it in my classes too.

It’s a great reminder to slow things down, to breathe, to give myself the time and space needed to adjust and find balance in order to move forward. I also find it a great reminder to move slowly in my yoga practice, to not rush, to enjoy moving mindfully and with purpose, and to continue to breathe when things feel tough.

Happy New Year 🥳

I hope you had a peaceful break with plenty of time for rest and relaxation 😴🧘🏻‍♀️😴

The start of a new year can be a bit daunting. There’s lots of conversations about resolutions, changes and things that we could improve. This seems slightly out of balance if we don’t take time to celebrate the successes and small wins that we notch up throughout the year. We can often be too quick to focus on the negatives or the not so goods rather than acknowledge all the things we’ve achieved.

I tend not to make resolutions, and instead I try to set myself small achievable goals and concentrate on being grateful for the things that bring a smile to my face. Do you have any rituals or routines to welcome the new year?

This month I’ll be focusing on creating balance as we explore core work and playful balance postures in class. I’ll be encouraging slow and mindful movement and will be inviting you to recognise and celebrate your achievements as you dedicate time to yourself and your practice.

Here’s where you’ll find me teaching this month:

🔸Tuesday, 19:00 – 20:00 – beginners warm flow at Twisted Yoga

🔸Thursday, 18:45 – 20:00 – all level flow at Subud Barnet Centre, 97 East Barnet Road, EN4 8RF

Merry Christmas 🎄

The countdown is on…

Here’s a little gift from me to you – a breathing exercise to keep you calm and promote relaxation in the lead up to the big day.

Follow these few simple steps and enjoy the benefits.

🔸Find yourself a comfortable position – try seated or lying down

🔸Let your body become soft and relaxed - try closing the eyes

🔸Let your breath be natural and unforced

🔸Inhale through your nose – keep it smooth and soft without straining

🔸Exhale through pursed lips – imagine you’re cooling a mug of hot tea

🔸Try not to rush or force your exhalation – let it arrive at its natural end

🔸Let your lips close and the next inhale arrive and repeat

Try 3 sets of 10 breaths

Make time to rest at the end of the exercise and feel the effects

Enjoy ❤️

Hello November 👋

While ☀️ autumn days can be energising, they tend to be few and far between as we hurtle towards the end of the year.

This month I’ll be exploring how we can use our yoga practice to support our energy levels. I’ll be incorporating side plank (vasishthasana) and reverse plank (purvottanasana) into my carefully crafted flows, with the aim to boost vital energy as we focus on the third chakra – the core of our personal power. As always, there will be lots of options and modifications of these poses to make them accessible to all 🧘🏻‍♀️

Here’s where you’ll find me teaching this month:
🔸Tuesday, 19:00 – 20:00 – beginners warm flow Twisted Yoga
🔸Thursday, 18:45 – 20:00 – all level flow at Subud Barnet Centre, 97 East Barnet Road, EN4 8RF
