Today we’re talking about GRAPES! 🍇

It’s a well known fact that whole grapes are a dangerous choking hazard for babies, toddlers and young children!

The size and shape of grapes means that they can completely plug a child's airway. The tight seal produced by the grape's smooth surface makes them difficult to dislodge with standard first aid techniques.

Young children are particularly vulnerable to choking on a grape because:
• They don't have a full set of teeth and are still learning to chew properly.
• Their swallow reflex is still developing.
• Their airway is very small.

This handy image shows just how to slice them so that they are safe to eat - slice in half lengthways and ideally into quarters. NEVER in half widthways!

Same goes for sausages, olives, cherry tomatoes and large blueberries. It’s always better to be safe than sorry!

[12/24/20]   Poppy pre-school would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year x 🎄🎅🎉

💚Hug Button💚

If your little one is starting school or nursery this week and feeling upset at the thought of leaving their mama or daddy behind, why not try a Hug Button? Thought up by mum Louise Mallet and shared via The Motherload, this is such a fab idea - draw a heart on your hand and your little one’s, charge it up by holding hands and tell them that if they feel sad or miss you while at school to press the hug button and it will send you a hug - likewise, you can send your little one a big squeeze by touching the heart on your hand! We have tried and tested the Hug Button and can confirm it does work and makes for a very happy child and mum 😍

Have you used a Hug Button? We’d love to hear!

There are many reasons why a child can have delayed or unclear speech but in some cases, keeping a dummy in when babbling/talking can have an impact. Further information is available via this link. http://www.talkingpoint.org.uk/parents/speech-and-language/do-dummies-affect-speech
