Whilst British Olympians have headed to the Sierra Navada, Lake Geneva, and Japan to train, our Director of Clinical Services, Lindsay headed to the far northern coast of Scotland for a holiday / training week ahead of her triathlon challenge. which starts today.

"For my swim, I went armed with a newly purchased wetsuit, bright pink swim hat (so they don’t loose me) and to ensure coordinated kit (if not swimming skills) a shocking pink changing robe. I’ve learnt during the week that getting in and out of a wetsuit is as big a challenge as the swim! I’ve braved the waters of the Pentland Firth, off John O’Groats, nippy to say the least, and had a practise in Loch Lomond.

For my cycle, more new kit to get to grips with! Inverness saw the purchase of Lycra, padded cycling knickers😣 really not my thing, and clip on pedal shoes, really, really not my thing! So training cycle rides have been on Orkney to Dunnet Head, the most northerly point of mainland Britain, also basically a big hill and finally above Loch Ness, also more hilly than I’d been lead to believe by my husband / coach. Not sure this is a winning combination...

Then finally my walking has only taken place in windy and rainy places!!"

GOOD LUCK Lindsay, you are a true inspiration!

The community garden at Wendover Road has had a huge impact on our secondary school children. It has given them a space where they can learn vital life skills and build independence by learning about growing their own food and life cycles.

We would love to expand this space to support even further with building life skills. To help us do this, please vote for us in the 'Helping your community grow' competition. https://www.dobbies.com/helping-your-community-grow

Meet Sid, Mike, and Rakesh, who after a lot of procrastinating have taken the brave step to sign up to the National 3 Peaks Challenge for Pace in September! Well done guys, we know you can do it!

A few months ago, Sid and Mike were chatting about doing something which would give them a motivating goal during these lockdown times. Sid wanted to do something to help give children a fair chance and had heard about the Pace 3 Peaks Challenge through corporate supporter, GE Healthcare, where he works. As Mike had always had an ambition to climb the 3 Peaks he agreed that if Sid booked up, he would too. Sid then mentioned the challenge to Rakesh who said: “Lock down presented challenges and opportunities for the world over. For me, the benefits were that I was able to swap the gym for running and this allowed me to gain access to all the beauty and wonders that the Chilterns afford. I appreciate that not all are able to just get up and go. Hearing about all the wonderful work that the charity do I felt compelled to attach myself to this wonderful organisation and try to raise as much money as I can to support the children at Pace.” Mike added, “Since signing up to the challenge and raising money, I have felt a greater compassion for the children at Pace who have various disabilities and have become more determined to succeed in this venture."

Meet Brian who tells us why he has decided to take on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks for Pace in October.

“I recently delivered a First Aid Course at Pace. Before my visit, I never knew much about them or what they did, but while I was there I learned how important they are to the community. I was amazed, inspired and taken aback by the amazing work they do and came away determined that I wanted to be part of making a difference. So my first challenge is the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge on 9th October.”

Here is one of our past pupils talking on her own platform about the things that made an impact on her life... what better ways to understand how your support makes a difference.

Good Sunday morning everyone. I hope you are all well and having a good weekend so far.
I got asked a question yesterday on Instagram, that I felt I couldn’t answer it fully in the 60 seconds that I had. So I am going to try to answer it in this post.
The question I got asked was “what things have improved your life?” Now this got me thinking because there has been lots of things that has helped improve my life. So let’s start at the beginning.
When I was a very young child I went to a conductive education centre called The PACE Centre. PACE was incredible for me because if it wasn’t for PACE I wouldn’t of learned how to use my body in the best way I possibly could. The conductors that I had throughout my years at PACE were fab. Even if I use to play up and scream the place down. Let’s just say I always have known my own mind right from being tiny. 😜 Yes I was a pain then, I still am now to be honest. However, I definitely don’t think if it wasn’t for PACE I would be as determined as I’m now.
As I got older and moved away from PACE, I started R D A (Riding For The Disabled) and this helped me with my balance and body control. I started R D A when I was about 7 and this was when my love and passion started for riding. As you guys know I absolutely love riding and being around horses, (well any animals in fact)! However, horses have played a enormous part of my life since I was 7 and they always will. The reason for this is because riding has been my rock through everything. Most importantly it has helped me to get as independent as possible on the horses and on the ground. I say that because riding has done absolute wonders for my balance. So this has helped my walking improve so much. This is a very important thing to me because I love walking and being active.
I would say that one of the biggest and the most important things in my life would be my support team. I wouldn‘t of got where I am now and wouldn’t be as determined if it wasn’t for my amazing parents. They have been fighting my corner ever since I was born and I am so extremely great full because I really don’t think I would be the person I am today if they didn’t give me the very best start in life. Also, I am very great-full for my fab PAs that I have found over the years. Most of them have turn into some of my dearest friends and I don’t know what I would do with out them.
So as you have read there has been lots of things that have and always be important in my life. And I could go on for days talking about this. However, I think people may get a little bored. 🤣🤣 So, I am going to leave it there. However, if anyone has any questions that you would like to hear about please comment down below and I will try to get back to you as soon as possible.
Thanks guys
Take care
😊
