Week two of our current 7-week ‘Makeup FX & Prosthetics Creation’ course saw our students begin making their own appliances. They created a master mould of their life cast from which they cast a new plaster positive on which they sculpted their prosthetics. A new core for moulding was created from the master mould and poured in F40 resin. The finished prosthetic sculpture was then floated in order to transfer it to the new core.

A sculpture class with Neill Gorton followed before their floated sculptures were then blended and flashing added ready for moulding. The week finished with a foam latex seaming class.

Week four of our current 7-week Makeup FX & Prosthetics Creation course was heavily focussed on the core prosthetics skill of sculpture. To kick off the week, principal tutor Martina Sandelin did a great sculpting and anatomy demo on a skeleton bust that the students then practised techniques from, followed by maquette sculpting and making armatures for their final projects. The week ended with the students working on the sculpts for their all-important final projects which are developing really well.

Week three of our latest 7-week Makeup FX & Prosthetics Creation course was busy! The students focused on making and applying their own prosthetic appliances; principal tutor Martina Sandelin took them through texturing and flashing on their cores and moulding in F40 and grit, as well as pigmenting silicone using only primary colours, and casting out their prosthetic appliances. Application of the pieces on Wednesday was timed as it would be on a film shoot – with great results!

They then practised silicone painting into organ and gut moulds, had a materials knowledge class with Tom Ashby from Neill’s Materials, and a prosthetic application demo with Millennium FX’s Director of Makeup Rebecca Butterworth.
