This week in nursery we have been getting very hands on with our activities. We have been using playdough in small world play and with role play, using it as food for both animals and for pretend baking. We have also been using real food for painting, mark making and messy play.
In the garden we found some tadpoles in one of our tubs so we have made a safe place for them to grow, we are hoping to observe how they grow and change.
We do hope you have a lovely weekend.

Nursery Update.
The last few weeks at Woodlands have been very busy, we have had lots of fun and learnt a lot. As you can see from the pictures we have been very hands on and enjoyed lots of messy/sensory play. This kind of exploration sparks lots of conversations and then with the older children some research. The children also had a go at creating some Banksy style artwork, I think they did a great job.
We hope you all have a lovely weekend and we will see you all again next week.

Weekly Update.
This week in the Pre-school Room we have been making our own playdough. The children werenvery hands on they chose the colours, mixed up the ingredients and loved exploring once it was ready.
We also went on walk inspired by a map drawn by one of our little people. He led the way to the post office and then to the underpass where he wanted his friends to hear his echo. Once in the underpass we were surprised by a large group of soldiers on their march back to the RAF base. They waited for us to find a safe place to stand and marched on by with all their gear (saying hello as they passed). The children were in awe and this sparked lots of conversations.
In the 2-3's Room we completed our story telling theme. We read The Hungry Caterpiller lots of times to remember and count the different foods, we looked for our favourite dinosaurs in Dinosaur Roar, we talked about similarities and differences, and we also had a treasure hunt in the sand from Charlie Cook's Favourite Book.
In the Under 2's Room we have been exploring animals and shapes, we practiced our balancing, drawing with chalk around shapes and natural resources. We read some of our textured story books and we explored messy play based around the story The Three Bears.
All around it's been another busy but fun week. We can't wait to see what next week will bring, have a lovely weekend.

This week in 2-3's we have continued our story telling theme. We had our own tea party using water, tea bags and coloured rice. We also explored our favourite animals from Dear Zoo and A Squash and a Squeeze.
This week in the Under 2's Room we have been using the cars to make marks in the sand. We have been developing hand eye coordination using jugs and oats for pouring and exploring shapes, colours and numbers using loose parts.
The summer holidays are coming to an end and we have been saying goodbye to our school leavers so it's been an emotional few weeks. We know they will all go on to do amazing things as they are all amazing little people. We will miss you all lots (parents as well as the children).

Weekly Update.
This week the Pre-school Room have been exploring feelings, numbers, letter recognition and messy play to name a few things. We spent the week getting hands on and talking to eachother about everything we are doing and feeling.
The 2-3's Room have continued their theme or summer holidays. They used cloud dough, dried coloured rice, and straws to make ice creams. They also got messy by using water, shaving foam and colour to create milkshakes. These were what the children said were treats they liked from their holidays.
The Under 2's have been role playing pirates, exploring the farm and what animals live on the farm, using musical instruments to tap out nursery rhymes and getting hands in and messy whilst exploring textures.
It's been another busy week and we are looking forward to another busy week next week.

🌿 Curiosity Approach Accreditation 🌿

As you may be aware, as a nursery we closely follow inspiration from the Curiosity Approach. We encourage children’s imaginations through authentic, open-ended resources and support their scaffolded play within our calming and homely environments. As we are working towards this achievement, it is evident that it requires a lot of natural and unique resources. Each day, we brainstorm, create and rotate the resource we do have, but we would really love lots more. If you have any of the following lying around that need new homes or you are thinking of throwing away, please feel free to donate them to us. We would happily make use of them in our nursery and appreciate your kind support.

Our story

Here at Woodlands Day Nursery we have a great partnership with parents – working closely and ensuring that we are meeting their children’s individual requirements. We believe in creating a warm, caring and friendly environment, where children and their families feel cared for, valued and loved - and where they can genuinely feel at home. As children’s primary educators, the relationships we build with parents are as important as the relationships we build with our children. These relationships create a ‘home from home’ atmosphere and help children to feel safe and secure, leaving them free to immerse themselves in play.
