What is scarlet fever and who does it affect?

Scarlet fever is a bacterial illness which mainly affects children โ€“ in fact 80% of cases occur in children under 10, with age 2-8 years of age being the most common time to catch the infection. After the age of 10, most children will have developed immunity to the toxins produced by the streptococcus bacteria that cause scarlet fever. However, it is rare, but possible to catch it twice and you can get it as an adult.

O is for... Oranges and Lemons

Here the Children explored playdough using their senses. The citrus smells and different textures of the dried fruit have sparked conversation about what the Children enjoy baking at home and the aromas they love. The children have used their imaginations during role play and took delight in making prints in the playdough too!

In Pre-school we have had a bit of a move around and added a new sand pit.
The children have been loving it! The parents have said that they are finding sand in some unusual places but it's all part of the fun.

This week in the 2-3โ€™s room, we have been exploring and experimenting with ways we can use loose parts. We have incorporated them into messy play, invented ways to use them to support imaginative role play and even looked at how we can use them to make simple shapes and numbers. As a result of this exploration, the children have began recognising some simple numbers and shapes in their environment.

Today at Woodlands we have had a bit of a garden revamp. We still have a little way to go to get it to where we want it but I think this is a good start.
Well done to the girls that worked so hard on the garden today.
I'm sure the children will let us know what they think next week.
Have a lovely weekend!

Here are some of the activities that we have been exploring in the Pre-school Room recently.
We have incorporated the children's interests with calmer and cooler activities as its been quite warm this week.
The edible sand and water play went down extremely well. The children always enjoy getting hands on and exploring abd learning thought touch.
We are looking forward to next week and having more fun with the children whilst we learn.
Have a lovely weekend.

Today we had a visitor in the garden.
The children were very excited to take a closer look, normally I would just pick up our little visitors but this one was quite big so I popped him into a large container.
The children from all three rooms took time to have a closer look at him before we set him free in a safe place.
We do love our little (or not so little) visitors and it sparks lots of conversations with the children.
Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife that you may see when out and about, feel free to send us a picture of the wildlife you spot.

Well today has been and still is a very hot day indeed. At nursery to try and stay cool we have been exploring some quieter and calmer activities. Lots of water play (a must in this weather) in all rooms. We have made playbdough, explored mark making (using delivery boxes) and and read stories.
The children have had plenty of drink breaks and we even had a special delivery from one of our lovely families of a large bag of ice creams and ice lollys for both the children and the staff. This was greatly appreciated and they went down very well. Many thanks to the family in question.

Please continue to stay safe and cool in these high temperatures.

In Pre-school we have been getting very hands on. We have been discussing the changing weather and crating some lovely artwork. We have also been making play dough and using it to explore shapes and textures, and dinosaurs. This has created a lot of discussions about dinosaurs, we did a little research to gather some facts.
He have also been working on our signs learning the first letters for our names and practicing what we already know. The children have found this super interesting and its lovely to see them so keen.

We do hope you are having a lovely weekend and enjoying the lovely weather.

Today Pre-school have been making their own flags to help us decorate the front door. ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง
We had a real flag and the children made their own interpretations of it.
I think they did a great job. ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง

Don't forget to wear red, white and blue tomorrow for the tea party. I've got mine ready. ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง

We have used various crafty resources (tissue paper, pipe cleaners, pom poms and feathers) to create our own Union Jack flags. The children were promoted to use their fine motor skills to snip with scissors and glue with paint brushes to make their flags. Whilst making their flags, the children joined in conversations, discussing about the upcoming celebrations.

We also had a little tea party using authentic items and play dough. The children printed in play dough with the items and pretended to make a yummy afternoon tea with the play dough.

๐Ÿ’™Last week in the under 2's room we have been exploring lots of messy play ideas using edible ingredients. We had lots of fun exploring a building site with blended rice krispies and coco powder to make dirt. They used the tyres and hoops to make marks in the tray. ๐Ÿ›ป๐Ÿ—

We also set up a dinosaur tray with cooked rice and bones. They enjoyed squishing the rice between their fingers and feeding it to the dinosaurs. They helped me create some soft cloud dough using conditioner and cornflour.๐Ÿฆ–๐Ÿฆ•

The children have been practicing their counting using wooden and metal resources. We also made a small town using rainbows, train track and trains. We used our counting skills to count the pieces we used. ๐Ÿš†๐Ÿš‚

Well done under 2's! ๐Ÿ’™

โ€˜We went to the Animal Fairโ€ฆโ€™ ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿณ๐Ÿฆ–๐Ÿท

Last week in the 2-3โ€™s room, we have been exploring several small world provocations. Using various loose parts, stories and play dough, the children have been encouraged to hold various conversations exploring the colours they can see, the patterns of some animals and even been discussing their habitats. The children have extended each activity based on their interests and have demonstrated some lovely turn taking skills. Alongside these activities, we have been role modelling the linking makaton signs for colours and animals which the children have done a fantastic job at repeating!

Yesterday we held an open day at the nursery. We do love showing off some of the lovely activities that we enjoy doing with the children within the setting.
We thought we would share some of the lovely photos with you all.
Hope you had a lovely weekend.

This week in the Pre-school Room we have been looking at our bodies. We have been talking about the body parts that we can see and some that we can't see. We talked about the heart and how our rib cage keeps it safe. We found out from one of our small people that the biggest muscle in the body is the bottom (which some little people found very funny).
We have also been practicing our signs and learning a few new ones. The children have found signing really interesting and it's definitely something we want to continue to work on.
We have also been looking at and talking about the letters that are in our names. Some of our little people can spell their names out loud, some can write their names down.
Mark making and messy play is always a big part of our day's at nursery. Today we had jelly and some of the children enjoyed getting very messy whilst exploring the texture and smell.

We do hope you enjoy the long weekend and we will see you all again next week

We have had lots of fun in the under 2's room this week. The children have been exploring textures with a variety of materials such as sponges, scarves and balls. ๐Ÿงฝ๐Ÿงฃโšฝ๏ธ

We have also been discussing our experiences of going to a farm and seeing the variety animals there. Most of the children had a go making the noises of a pig, horse and cow. ๐Ÿท๐Ÿด๐Ÿฎ

Some of the children have been obsessed with vehicles and we made a little area for them to push the cars around the track. ๐Ÿš˜

In our role play kitchen we created a matching/identitying game with wooden fruit and vegetables. ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿฅ•๐Ÿฅ”

We have also been talking about the beach and what you can find on there such as shells, as some of our children are going on holiday.๐Ÿ–๐Ÿš

Have a lovely weekend ๐Ÿ’™

Over the last few weeks in the Pre-school Room we have been learning some basic sign language.
We have been working on colours, greetings, animals, and asking for help to name a few.
The children have really seemed to enjoy this and have been picking it up quite quickly. I am hoping to keep it going as the adults are learning a lot too.
Unfortunately I do not have any pictures as our hands were a little busy.
Have a lovely weekend!

One of our lovely families is holding a launch party for a charity they have founded. Please see below for details, it's for an amazing cause. Some of the staff will be in attendance, we hope to see you there if your able to make it.

The toddler room started the week by exploring mini beats with their play dough, which then inspired us to go on a muddy walk to search for some bugs in the woods. The toddlers have also explored colours and shapes through building, mark making and painting, as well as continuing their interests in small world and role play.

This week in the Pre-school Room we have been spending a lot of time outside. We have been on many walks, building up our steps and exploring.
We have been to see the RAF aeroplane, seen some buses and police vehicles and some birds and bugs. We have also been working on our listening skills and our road safety skills.
We stopped to build a camp fire on the green near nursery, gathering all thatbwe needed from around us. We then open-ended to toast marshmallows on the camp fire.
Indoors we have been exploring and talking about sea life and sea creatures. The children are keen to learn and very open to sharing their thoughts and knowledge.
It's been an amazing week and we hope the weather stays good so that we can continue with our exploring next week.
