Messy Mitts

Fun, themed messy play classes where you can leave the mess behind! Suitable for babies from 4 months to 4 years

Operating as usual

Hey Everyone!
A little update, still working along side the government's guidelines so can't run any classes yet.
I don't plan on running weekly blocks of classes as I'm currently setting up to do childminding but I will still be doing pop up sessions and party's!
Hope to see you all soon! ๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ

Taste safe moon dough ๐ŸŒ›
Does your little one put EVERYTHING in their mouth?
Why not try this taste safe activity? I'm doing a taste safe messy play week over on my Instagram account @messy_mitts_mum if you are looking for more activities!
All you need is
2 cups of flour, add 1/2 Cup of oil, coconut oil preferably or I used vegetable oil.
Mix untill its combined, won't be a smooth consistency.
Separate into bowls and add food colouring and mix with spoon then use hands to mix to get the colouring even.
Then that's you!
Moon dough is a sandy texture but will also hold shape when squished together, if yours won't hold together add a little more oil.
Watch my video to see how I made it ๐ŸŒ›

Let's face it, it's a well known fact that babies put EVERYTHING in their mouth.. So this is the perfect messy play for someone who likes to get messy but ends up stuffing their face ๐Ÿ™ˆ
Super quick and easy to make..
๐Ÿ’™All you need is a portion of Aquafaba (the water that's in a 400g tin of chickpeas) and a 1/4 tsp of cream of tartar, give it a good whisk till thick. You can add food colouring or I topped mines with sprinkles.
Let me know if you give it a go!

[07/01/20]   Sorry I haven't posted much recently, if you have Instagram you can follow my mummy blog account where I share mum life and activities ๐Ÿ’–

Have some fruit that's seen better days in your fruit bowl? ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ

Learning colours ๐Ÿ’› why not try this easy set up activity provide your child with yellow objects all fimiliar to them, if they already know their names that will make this easier, focus on saying YELLOW egg, YELLOW hammer etc so they are learning that all the objects have the colour yellow in common. We also did some yellow shaving foam just for some fun too!

We're all going on a summer holiday ๐Ÿ–๏ธ๐Ÿน.
Volume up ๐Ÿ”Š๐Ÿ”Š
So Oscars been asking to go on a holiday on a plane for for a few years now, every year we say we will go next year.. But looks like we wont be going this year so I thought we'd just hop on the plane into our imaginary holiday yesterday!! ๐Ÿ˜œ.
๐Ÿ‘œFirstly we packed our suitcases.
โœ๏ธThen we made our boarding passes for the plane.
โœˆ๏ธWe headed to the airport
๐ŸŒดWe made our own palm-tree.
๐Ÿ–๏ธThen straight to the beach for a mocktail and bbq ๐Ÿน.
Where would you go on your imaginary holiday?

Hidden animals ๐Ÿ–๐Ÿ„๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŽ
Today we used our rice from yesterday's rainbow play along with animal cards and a brush to create a treasure hunt of baby animals ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ–๐Ÿ„.
This is a great activity to keep them busy and encourage problem solving skills and fine motor skills.

Rainbow rice ๐ŸŒˆ.
If your lucky enough to have a bag of rice at the back of your cupboard then this is a great activity!
I use paint to colour my rice, you can also use food colouring.
Simply put your rice in a tub or bag add a small blob of paint and mix it all in untill it covers your rice, leave to dry then its ready to go.
Also you can reuse this again and again which is always a bonus!!
I just used a plastic box to keep the rice contained when playing with it!

10% OFF use code messyduck
๐Ÿ’งTo all the mummies, daddies and grannies etc.. If you have a little one Or adult at home who is splashing in and out of the paddling pool today and then running across the garden and your stressing about them slipping I can highly recommend slip frees, they are soft elastic, slip on shoes. They are also water proof and have UV protection. I bought them recently for Charlie and they are Amazing!!
They are also great for wearing as slippers, general garden shoes, at the beach or in the shower etc.
You can get them at the Littleduckscompany and if you use the code messyduck you can get 10% off all the mainline brands including these!

Today we used the coloured water from yesterday's experiment and some old shampoo /body wash bottles to do some outdoor art work! This went down a treat with the boys and encouraged lots of thinking and problem solving to work out the best way to get the water out! ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ’ฆ

Rainbow activity ๐ŸŒˆ.
This was a really fun sensory activity Oscar really enjoyed.
Simply add (a lot) of food colouring to water one jar for each colour of the rainbow ๐ŸŒˆ
Add kitchen paper in a curve reaching into one jar and into the next (see picture) .
Soon the colour will start creeping up the paper towel and youl have yourself a rainbow! ๐ŸŒˆ.

Textured pictures! ๐ŸŒˆ
Today's sensory experience is a texture activity.
I created these by sticking different materials into card photo frames.(comes with school photos etc) You can also use photo frames, DIY cardboard frames or just stick the material on a big piece of cardboard.
I used tissue paper, sticky bandage, sand paper, foil, a sponge and silver foiled bubble wrap. Any textures are great,
Babies may need some help to touch it with their hands or feet! Or it's a great tummy time activity! .
Toddlers will pick it up and explore it themselves, use descriptive words when they touch the different textures such as soft, rough, shiny etc. .
Pre school/ school children can be blind folded and guess what the texture is.

Feely box ๐Ÿ–๏ธ
Today's sensory experience we made in literally minutes,
All you need to do is cut a hole in the top of a shoe box or any box would do.. Attach some paper or shredded plastic bag across the hole (inside)
Then place a bowl of something inside for them to explore. Change what's in the bowl for each shot. I used a scarf because he peeks.. ๐Ÿ‘€.
In the bowls I put
Whipped cream,
Strawberry sauce
An egg
Also a nice sensory experience to use as a smell or taste box!

Welcome to a week of sensory play!
Voted for on my Instagram page @messy_mitts_mum .

I'm starting the week off with Ice play! This is great for ALL AGES.

I have created a few different ice activities which you can see in the pictures.
All are suitable for all ages as long as supervised as can be a chocking hazard.

๐Ÿฆ•Firstly I used water to fill up some of the ice cube trays then added dinosaurs but any small toys would be fab to create a handle to hold the ice, this is good for toddlers who can't quite grip the ice also for any children who don't like cold textures.

๐Ÿ”ดI also added pompoms to some, this is a nice activity for exploring how ice melts by using a syringe to pour warm water on the ice they will be able to release the pompoms.

๐Ÿ‘ƒSome I added food flavourings and herbs to explore their sense of smell.

๐Ÿ†I added gold coins to some and will provide the boys with toy hammers to smash the ice to release the treasure!

๐ŸŒˆ I added food colouring to some then once half frozen stuck in some wooden sticks (lolly pop sticks would work) so we can use them to paint a picture!

โ˜๏ธLastly I used shaving foam and food colouring to create textured foam, a nice sensory experience!

Allow to freeze for a few hours then enjoy!

A round up of this weeks role play areas!
Keep an eye out for this weeks theme!

Post office play! โœ‰๏ธ๐Ÿ“ฎ๐Ÿ“ฌโœ๏ธ
Today we ventured to the local post office ๐Ÿ˜œ. Charlie really enjoyed being behind the counter and using the @vtechtoysuk lap top we inherited ๐Ÿ˜‚ Oscar really enjoyed writing letters using his knowledge of familiar letters and names. We also made stamps to stick on the envelopes and discussed what an address was before posting them in our very own post box! ๐Ÿ“ฎโœ‰๏ธ.
Today was the last day of role play week! I hope you all enjoyed my posts and hopefully gained some inspiration to create your own little role play areas at home!
Everything I used for my areas i found around my house, a lot of recycling used and scraps of paper!!
I have a vote of my Instagram for next week's theme! @messy_mitts_mum

Welcome to Oscar and Charlie's Pizza Shop! ๐Ÿ•.
One day left of role play week (missed yesterday so adding an extra day!) Any suggestions of a role play area you've made or been thinking of doing we can do?

This afternoons role play inspiration took us to the garden shop ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒป๐Ÿฅ€.
This morning we were replanting some of the flowers we've grown from seeds and the boys were so interested and wanted to be involved, we already did the planting so I thought this afternoon we would do the next step! ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒป๐Ÿฅ€.
If you have seen my other posts youl know that we are doing a different role play area each day this week! Hoping to give some inspiration to everyone who had fed up kiddies at home!
Have you done any role play this week? Did we give you some inspiration or did your child give you the idea? I'd love to hear?! ๐Ÿ’™.

Today we took our role play area outdoors! ๐ŸŒ
Sorry don't know why the videos came up so blurry!

Today we enjoyed some time at our local Cafe! โ˜•๏ธ

Sorry I haven't been posting much had a crazy week or so..
Here is our ice cream van and shop we made today and yesterday, we are going to be doing a different role play area every day this week!
Any suggestions send them this way! ๐Ÿฆ

Today we did a quick tuff spot set up which could be done on the ground Instead easily! ๐Ÿš— ๐Ÿšœ
Kept the boys entertained for ages!

Hey! ๐Ÿฆ†
Something slightly different from me today, me and my two boys are reps for a lovely company called little ducks company, a UK based small business that sells lots of lovely children's items, from outdoor clothing to beautiful baby gifts. Everything is lovely quality!
You can get 10% off all mainline brands using the code messyduck go and check them out

Pom pom colour sorting with tweezers.
I used an egg carton and some pompoms and also some large tweezers which are actually for getting toast out the toaster ๐Ÿ˜‚. This activity was enjoyed by my 1 and 4 year old!

Drawing with Dinosaur Ice!โ„๏ธ.
We had fun cooling off today with this activity!
Fill ice cube tray with water add dinosaurs, toys or lolly sticks to create a handle to hold onto. Freeze for a few hours then they are ready to go. I did this in a black tuff spot but it would also work on black paper or cardboard.
TIP- let them ice melt slightly before starting to leave a better mark.
OR use food colouring and make coloured ice then can be done on white paper!

Shape Sorting ๐Ÿ’™ ๐Ÿ”บ๐Ÿ”ตโฌ›๏ธ

Ice smash! โ„๏ธ๐Ÿ”จ

My two spent the morning inside and had SO much energy to work off so I'm glad I'd prepped this activity this morning!

I used a few small plastic containers filled them with cooled boiled water and added a few different sensory items. I used flower petals, pompoms, feathers, foil from Easter eggs and also some paper shapes.
Leave them for a few hours to freeze and then just pop them out the tubs.

๐ŸŒŸThis is a great sensory experience for babies, toddlers, preschool and school children!

We then used some toy hammers to smash the ice on the tray.
This was a perfect activity for my bogs because they love hammering everything and they didn't stop untill all the ice was smashed which meant I could get my washing hung out! ๐ŸŽ‰.

Walk the plank! โš“๏ธ ๐Ÿ’ฆ
Today we used oats, wheatabix and stones to create a pirate small world, we also used some wood to make a plank which lead into a "sea" with sharks and other scary sea creature's! โš“๏ธ The boys loved walking the plank and making a big splash!

Hair chop! โœ‚๏ธ ๐Ÿ’‡
Scissor skill activity.
She looks a bit creepy but I'm sure with a more talented artist and nice wool she could look lovely!
Simply created a face on some cardboard, make holes round its hair line and add wool for hair then let your little one give then a restyle! ๐Ÿ’‡
Its a good scissor skills activity to get them used to cutting different textures and thickness.

Easy peasy sensory bottles. Always a winner!

Moon dough ๐ŸŒš
This was our first time making it, i would describe the texture as in between gloop and playdough!
What you need :
๐ŸŒš2 x Cups of corn flour
๐ŸŒš1 x Cup of hair conditioner
๐ŸŒšFood colouring.
Simply add flour and conditioner Into a bowl, TIP which I learnt after we made the mistake, add the colouring to the conditioner otherwise the colouring just goes hard ๐Ÿ™ˆ.
Mix with a spoon then use hands, if its too sticky add more flour, too dry and crumbly add more conditioner.
Then enjoy week after week, keep In an air tight container and more conditioner if it starts to dry out ๐ŸŒš
