πŸ—£οΈ What a great week of Globeducate Debating it has been. Involving 40 Globeducate schools across many different time zones, the event provided Stonar pupils with speaking opportunities they will remember for a long time.

Following on from our Year 9 pupils on Monday, Year 7 pupils took up the reins on Tuesday, tackling the motions of "Voting should be compulsory" and "Exams are the best way to test student knowledge". This provided our Year 7 pupils with a great chance to showcase their skills, and they represented the school with real confidence.

The last day of competition involved Sixth Form students. Competing against Blyth Academy in Canada, we more than held our own as Chiara, Emerald and Emilia argued passionately against the "Only young people under 20 should run governments" motion.

Our Head girl, Chiara, commented, "I've had so much fun this week. I hope my final speech for Stonar reflected everything I've learned over the years."

πŸ—£οΈ Speaking to a literal worldwide audience of over 40 Globeducate schools, Joy, Arabella and Antonia grappled with the motion that "men make naturally better leaders than women". If there is any motion designed to prompt a passionate response at Stonar, then it is this one! Joy spoke with passion and fluency, blending careful research with strong opinions. Antonia and Arabella put aside their personal beliefs and entered into the great spirit of the Globeducate Debate.

It's great to see pupils' passion for public speaking at Stonar, as appreciating another person’s point of view, and arguing a case you strongly disagree with, is a great skill. Well done everyone, you represented the school with real passion.

πŸ’¨ Stonar's Year 11 pupils have finished their formal GCSE work, meaning they are able to explore some areas of study not on the core curriculum - in other words, they can relax and have some well-deserved fun! This week, they experimented with a mix of hydrogen gas and air to achieve the most effective explosive mix to propel a rocket (a 2 litre bottle) across the lab. Safe to say when they discovered the correct mix between 20-40% hydrogen and air, they were shocked by the somewhat loud and spectacular results!

πŸ–οΈ Our Lower Sixth Geography group headed to Studland Bay before half term, to collect data for their coursework about succession on a sand dune ecosystem. After weeks of stormy weather, they were very fortunate not to be rained on! The group worked hard all day and collected their data efficiently – ensuring that Mrs Smith’s last ever field trip, before she retires, was a success!

Our boarding staff arrange an exciting variety of events for our boarders over the weekends. Before half-term, boarders enjoyed trying out fencing and clay pigeon shooting, they competed in the Stonar Alternative Olympics, took part in a detective investigation and honed their pottery skills. In addition to enjoying the sports and equestrian facilities onsite, they also enjoy regular baking sessions too, as well as trips to Bath and the local village of Atworth. Now, after a well earned half-term rest, all our boarders and day pupils are looking forward to the exciting activities planned for their last few weeks of this year. #stonar #boarding #boardinglife #globeducate

Year 9 focused on developing their leadership skills last week, coming off timetable for the day to learn about the responsibility and reward that comes with leadership. The pupils worked in teams during the day in different areas of School, including Sports Leaders, Environmental Leaders, Academic Mentors and Induction Leaders.

Getting out of the classroom and participating in group challenges was well received by all. Although theory is important too, the combination of classroom and outside learning had a positive effect on everyone involved!

Stonar's 80 acre school site allows children an abundance of space to grow academically and personally. Our progressive curriculum transcends the purely academic, creating an enriching environment in which pupils discover and develop their individual talents - and gain a deeper experience of the world.

Stonar is proud of our exceptional pupil achievement. We are in the top 1.5% of schools for value-added at GCSE, meaning our pupils achieve results higher than pupils of the same ability nationally.

Personalised attention for each pupil means teachers are able to tailor and optimise the learning experience for each individual, ensuring they get the most from their education at Stonar.

At the beginning of the Summer Term, we welcomed a new resident artist to exhibit in our Art Department: Becky Borthwick. Becky is a textile and mixed media artist based in Marlborough, and her art is rooted in the changing landscape around her. She loves to capture the essence and beauty of Wiltshire using found objects from a field or beach, recycled materials and textiles, combining them with acrylics, inks, dyes and watercolour.

🎨 Her work is on display next to the Sixth Form Art Rooms, where everyone can view her amazing work.

Years 7 and 8 put their skills and communication to the test this week as they embarked on Team Building days. Despite Year 7 encountering some gloomy weather, both year groups really immersed themselves in the activities, which included rock climbing, canoeing and archery. The challenges proved that efficient teamwork can make any situation easier - even if you land in cold water! Well done for showing so much enthusiasm and recognising how valuable these opportunities are. #stonar #teamwork #teambuilding #globeducate

General information

We ensure that our pupils build character, learn skills and develop abilities beyond the purely academic. For riders Stonar offers something unique; Stonar is regarded as the UK’s finest riding academy. The equestrian facilities are at the heart of the school and pupils may bring their own horse to school or loan one of the Stonar stable. Around 40% of pupils ride, but many more non-riders enjoy coming to the stables and patting their favourite ponies at break or lunchtime
