Unfortunately the Terracycle recycling scheme is coming to an end - please do not send any items of recycling to Hilltop School after March 18th.

Walkers have withdrawn their support for the crisp packet element and the bread bag recycling is ending too. Due to these ending it is not viable for us to continue with just oral care.

Please make sure the following items are with us by March the 18th:

- Bread bags
- Crisp packets
- Oral Care items

Once Terracycle have received our last packages I will update you with the total.

Thank you all for your support!
Pupil Parliament did a brilliant job collecting the donations for Place2Be this morning. Together we raised a fantastic £102.31!
Today we all wished a wonderful friend of Hilltop School, Mr Bill Milward, a very happy 106th Birthday.
Mr Milward loves coming into school and spending time with the children - as you can imagine at 106 he certainly has some interesting stories to tell!

Mr Milward was born in 1916 and is served in WW2. On D-Day he was at Gold Beach Ver Sur Mer as a DUKW driver. He provided essential supplies throughout Europe including Belsen and Auschwitz.

As a lovely surprise for his birthday, the DUKW was transported up from Peterborough and driven into the school grounds, something that I am sure both Mr Milward and the children at Hilltop will remember for a very long time.

It was also Seb's 8th birthday today, so with almost 100 years between them they stood together and were treated to a round of Happy Birthday from the whole school.

Happy 106th Birthday Bill Milward!
Derby Cathedral Choir is one of the only ensembles of its kind within the East Midlands, singing a broad range of repertoire to the very highest standards from medieval plainsong to newly commissioned works.

All of our Choristers receive a first-class musical education, including free one-to-one singing and music theory lessons. Furthermore, all our Choristers are paid a termly scholarship for their work at the Cathedral.

Throughout their time in the choir, our Choristers are trained in professional music-making; receive a unique all-round cultural education; acquire a sense of self-confidence and purpose; gain vital leadership and teamwork skills; develop lifelong friendships; and have plenty of fun in the process!

The Cathedral Choir undertakes tours both within the UK and abroad. Previous tours include Paris, Belgium and Rome and a tour to Greece is in the pipeline post COVID.

Membership of the Cathedral Choir is free and no prior musical training is necessary.

Parents of interested children are warmly encouraged to contact the Music Department at [email protected] or 07760 766199 to book a taster session.
CHILDREN'S MENTAL HEALTH WEEK 2022

To celebrate Children’s Mental health Week we are going to be holding a Dress to Express day in school on Friday 11th February.

The Dress to Express day is an opportunity for pupils and staff to wear something bright, colourful or expressive for the day.

We will be asking for a £1 donation towards Place2Be. Place2Be launched the first ever Children’s Mental Health Week in 2015 to shine a spotlight on the importance of children and young people’s mental health.

Our Year 6 children have had a fantastic few days on the Bikeability cycle training programme. They have completed level 1 and 2 and have learnt how to start and stop on the road confidently, pass stationary vehicles, understand road signs and signals, how to negotiate junctions and how to share the road with other users.
They were all Hilltop role models and we are very proud of you all. Well done Year 6!

To celebrate Mental Health Awareness week, Yellow and Blue Class have spent their Forest School sessions, learning about how important it is to look after themselves and the importance of talking about their feelings and who they can share them with.
Year 1, read ‘Ruby’s Worry and then made their own worry doll.
Reception and Nursery used their senses to explore the world around them.

The children in Yellow and Blue Class have been looking at the life cycle of a butterfly.
To help the children explore this topic they watched the cycle themselves with their own caterpillars.
How excited they were to watch the development! 🐛🦋

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that joined us for our Coronation celebration picnic this afternoon.
Despite the weather and several changes to the original plan, the children loved their picnic! It was fantastic to see so many families together enjoying the time outside.

The EYFS has thoroughly enjoyed the Dangerous Dinosaur topic.
We began with a visit from Dinostar, who brought in dinosaur bones, eggs and teeth.
We created a Dinosaur Café which catered for both herbivores and carnivores. We used this within our numeracy sessions as well as imaginative play.
We used a variety of materials to create dinosaurs - painting, collage and chalk.
During Forest School we made fantastic dinosaur eyes, adding texture and patterns to the design.
We have explored both fiction and non-fiction dinosaur books and used our knowledge to create our own dinosaurs.
We even explored this theme with dance.
It’s been totally roarsome!

A huge thank you to our PTA who funded this. It was a fantastic day.

Our first inter-school sports event of the year was a huge success. The Year 3 and 4 children showed great sportsmanship, teamwork and perseverance. Each of our four teams played four matches against other schools - we scored lots of goals and showed some fantastic skill, even winning some of our matches. Most of all we had great fun and cannot wait for the next event.
