It’s been a month now since we closed unit 1 and moved everything in to unit 2.

Including the new Tide 55 offices.

You may not know about me is that I collect things...specifically trading cards.

Pokémon (only the base set 150) and vintage sports cards.

I recently gave my little lad a few Pokémon cards to look after.

I told him that they were special and that he needed to keep them safe.

Now, these ones are base set but they aren’t worth much at all. Probably fetch for about £5 for the lot, BUT, the reason for giving them to him was to teach upon him the lessons of care and keeping things safe.

Through his eyes, money is mostly a digital experience. He watches Mummy and Daddy pay contactless all of the time and rarely do we handle money.

My Grandad stopped me in the hallway when I was a littlen, knelt down and gave me a £1 coin to look after.

I’m still not sure his plan actually worked, but at least it empowered me and put the responsibility on me. (Lol)

I’ve told my lad that he can have another card at the end of the week if he can show me good behaviour.

He’s up for it and wants a “fire Pokémon” to add to his collection.

That tells me it’s working!

And gives us a break from using food as an incentive!!

He’s packed them back up inside his little plastic wallet now.

Time will tell if he gets the lesson or if he mugs me off.

Haha 😂

Episode 124 is finally here and it’s exciting to be able to broaden the topics that we cover on “Tommy G Talks.”

Shout out to my team at Tide 55 for the awesome episode that we recorded as a team, and is now available to listen to on my podcast.

The plan is to release 1x of these business and marketing episodes per week (hope you like the name of the series 😝) as well as the short motivational snippets and the stories of “transforming challenge into confidence” from the guests that I have on to interview.

I’ve been podcasting since 2012 and I’ve always said that a podcast should run parallel to your life and change and grow with you as you evolve.

Will fill you up with what you need
Nobody knows your life better than you
You already know what you must do

Happy new year.
It won’t be a clean break, but it’s a line in the sand. We can choose to leave our unnecessary baggage behind us and help “chapterize” our lives to take some of the weight off our shoulders...BUT do not cross the line without learning what you must learn.

About yourself. About your relationships. About what you believe in. About who you are under pressure.

We learn about ourselves every day and certainly have a self evaluation every year. This year holds many. Do not ignore them or take them for granted.

Nobody is perfect...

You don’t need to prove that you have your sh*t together, or that you’re struggling. You don’t need to prove anything at all.

We can hold back on the way we share and where we turn to get our reassurance and our council.

Friendships. Comrades. Teammates. Family.

In 2021 let’s take a better level of control over the tools we use to communicate. Let’s keep using them to help us to connect, without placing them above connection itself.

As we make our plans for 2021
Remember to make sure that you have fun

I love running a digital marketing agency. It brings so much variety...

(BTW what do you think of the joke at the end...it fell flat on the team...I thought it was funny...)

We recently took one of the products that we are responsible for marketing down to a garden centre to shoot some special Christmas marketing assets.

The kids loved the lights and Santa got involved in the action too.

The team were brilliant, making the most of a tricky window of opportunity. Big thanks to the garden centre, we can’t name you but you know who you are!

It was another exciting project that we took you behind the scenes on (full episode on the Tide 55 vlog)

Looking forward to bringing this fantastic brand and product to life in 2021.

We will be able to share more of the product and the project (including name, logo and website) in due course.

Convenience is more important than ever.

Everything was moving more and more “on demand” before 2020 but this year sped it all up.

So many businesses have had to adapt to become more “time efficient” and convenient to serve their market place.

The counter argument is increased experiential value. Giving the human senses more than the convenient choice.

For example,

Eating in a restaurant Vs take away.
Cinema Vs Netflix.
The gym Vs home workout.

and many more I’m sure you can think of too...

So there’s a choice, either

1) become more convenient
2) increase experiential quality

Or if you can find a way to offer both, you’ve hit the sweet spot.

TURNING THE TIDE (why it’s time for a change)

Changes that were perhaps 2/3 years away suddenly became “today’s conversation.”

I had worked very hard to create something truly special in my events and coaching business.

Over a 2 year period my team and I achieved things that most trainers, coaches and speakers only dream of doing.

2 day personal development events and 3 day retreats...in ENGLAND!

But in March 2020, it was time to listen to the wind.

I had started to feel a resistance towards the industry. Events, coaches, personal development as a whole had become a somewhat warped landscape.

I felt that light getting slightly dimmer, and I knew what I needed to change.

“In order to keep helping people, I need to let go of the business.”

In March 2020 I decided to draw a line in time and let go of something I’d put my heart and soul into.

The thing that made it possible was the same thing that helped create it in the first place.

My belief in my own ability and having faith that it was right.

So I set up @tide.55 and followed my burning passion for creative media and digital marketing.
Time to trade a different way.

Fast forward a few months and we have a small team of talented and passionate people, making a positive impact to our clients (and their customers!)

One thing is for sure. When you let go of something, you create space.

With space, things can grow and new ideas can blossom.

I invite you in the last few weeks of this year to let go of anything ELSE that you’ve been clinging on to.

Believe in your vision and your ability.

From here I will be increasing my efforts to help in different ways. God has given me a set of skills. I cannot and will not stop spreading the message of confidence.

I will use my podcast and the books that I write, as my way of continuing to serve, and all profits will go to charity.

I sit shoulder to shoulder with you as we both do our best to leave the world a better place than when we found it.

Thank you to everyone that ever supported my events/coaching.

Nobody does it like we do. They really were special.

Maybe one day. But for now, thanks for the memories and never stop learning.

There’s so much that we cannot control right now...

This quick tip may help you find some clarity and some focus.

[11/03/20]   Life is spinning at different speeds and orbits for all of us right now.

The range of ups and downs are far greater and it’s impossible to know how others are feeling (possibly even naive and patronising to suggest any of us do)

I for one am in no place to know you better than you know yourself, but I care and so that’s why I want to share this analogy with you today.

When Spinning... 🌪

In martial arts, when you execute a “reverse” or a “spinning” kick, you are taught:

Foot round
Head turn and eyes on the target
Chamber the kicking leg
Kick hard
Recover back to stance quickly

The thing is, you and I and everyone else is at a different stage.

1) Some just have to set their feet and get ready.
2) Some need to turn their heads and see the target.
3)Some need to prepare the kick.
4) Some need to kick...HARD.
5) Some need to recover and get back to a solid stance.

Which one are you right now?

One thing I know for sure is any time I’ve thrown a kick in a completion I’ve always benefitted from my coaches and team mates shouting feedback and support from the side of the mat.

So please do feel free to share and help us all to bring some encouragement and acceptance into our day :)

Well at least it was until the dictionary changed its primary definition to a shoe!!!

Branding is a tough process. It’s rarely a straight line.
