๐ŸŒฒ Connecting with Nature ๐ŸŒฒ

It was wonderful today to be able to welcome the toddlers from Townhouse Audley Road who are exploring the natural world around them in their learning. It was lovely to see them at our Forest school area at Schoolhouse. ๐ŸŒณ๐ŸŒณ

It was a joy to watch them run through the grass to meet Sam our forest school leader who was sat in the woodland ring ready to greet them. They were full of conversation about what they had seen on their way telling Sam there were sheep, cows and lots of tractors๐Ÿšœ

They confidently used their fine motor and mark making skills, to scribe their names independently on the welcome chalk board. We then talked about how Autumn is on its way and the changes this is bringing to the trees around us. ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿ

The fairy family wrote a lovely letter and asked the children to create their own autumn tree collage which they did as a group. ๐Ÿงš๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

Following on from the exploration of the mud kitchen and collage activity, the toddlers then investigated the allotment area, showing obvious wonder at the size and texture of the pumpkins in particular .

One little boy independently announced that the morning had been "Lots of fun" ๐Ÿ˜€.

We look forward to welcoming more children for our Forest School sessions in the very near future. โ˜˜๏ธ๐Ÿƒ๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ๐ŸŒณ

๐Ÿ“šCelebrating Roald Dahl Day at Townhouse๐Ÿ“š

Today we filled the setting with marvellous magical experiences as we celebrate Roald Dahl day focusing on Georgeโ€™s Marvellous Medicine.
Baby room and Preschool have been busily exploring and investigating the array of measuring materials and pipettes to create our very own Marvellous Medicine from the story. ๐Ÿ’‰๐Ÿฅ
Preschool shared the story alongside the builderโ€™s tray before interpreting their own ideas and ingredients to create their medicines and share their experience with their peers, this enabled lots of opportunity throughout the activities for lots of sustained shared thinking to develop. Sally joined Preschool as they came together to cut the fruit and add the magical ingredients to create the โ€˜Marvellous Medicine Smoothieโ€™ and added it to the menu for our teatime treat this evening.๐Ÿฅ›

๐Ÿš€ Whatever Next! ๐Ÿš€

To conclude Preschools week of sharing their favourite stories on Friday Preschool took an extra special visit up to space๐Ÿš€
We focussed our experience on the story โ€˜Whatever Next!โ€™
As we got into character the children had the opportunity to pop on their space suits, pull on their space boots and secure their space helmets before climbing into their space rocket and zoom up to space ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿš€๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿš€
They investigated the different planets in space using their space lights and built their own rockets using their constructive skills. ๐Ÿชโ˜„๏ธ
To further our literacy skills and play experience in character we shared the story support by props to relive the experience with high levels of excitement and enthusiasm throughout. ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿš€๐Ÿš€๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿš€

๐ŸŒˆ Rainbow Blots ๐ŸŒˆ

We welcomed Carlie Wright - Author & Musician the author if the wonderful story Rain Blots.

Our toddlers have been showing interest in colours and rainbows in their play. The story introduces the children to language focused on colours and relates it to everyday objects familiar to the children. It also supported their knowledge of the colours in the rainbow when we see them in our play.

It is a playful story that our toddlers love โค

It was lovely have Carlie at nursery she supported our children interest through stories and sang the rainbow song whilst they all danced.

โค๏ธ Celebrating our family cultures - Rosh Hashanah โค๏ธ

At Townhouse we have been celebrating the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah with Bess and her family. Bessโ€™ Mum, Naomi, told the children all about the festival and how they make greeting cards to send to family and celebrate with sweets and family meals with the food focused all around honey and apples. We learned all about the important job bees have in making honey. ๐Ÿ.

Naomi teamed up with our top chef Wendy to make a traditional earl grey and honey cake with the children. We have some keen bakers who were quick to share their knowledge of what each ingredient was. Naomi set the children a challenge to group the ingredients into wet and dry as we had to weigh these separately then mix them together. The childrens' senses were bought to life as they smelt the array of spices. We counted in sequence as we measured how many spoonfulโ€™s were needs of the spices, flour and sugar we used their fingers to identify quantity when we needed to share how many eggs were needed ๐Ÿฅš.

Lots of eagle eyed observations from the children as we mised, โ€œItโ€™s lumpy", "it has gone white to brown and itโ€™s gloopyโ€. The mixing bowl was very heavy so everyone helped to pour the cake mixture into the tin ready to be decorated with some very special apples before going in the oven. We cannot wait to taste our cake at tea time โค๏ธ

Huge thank you to the children at our sister setting Schoolhouse Nursery in Weston who sent us some delicious hand picked cooking apples from their apple tree in the garden. We peeled and cut the apples up to decorate the top of our cake. Watch this space to see what food is delivered next week that Karen the nursery chef and the children at Schoolhouse can also enjoy ๐Ÿ’œ

๐Ÿ” International Burger Day ๐Ÿ”

The children have been embracing a unique learning experience focused all around food. We welcomed the amazing Allan from ร€ la Carte at Home who gave our children a hands on experience of making their very own gourmet burgers. He introduced the children to the lots of interesting facts. In 1968 the hamburger was first made and in America 79 burgers are sold every second in McDonalds๐Ÿ—ฃ

Allan introduced the children to a variety of ingredients and he was blown away by the knowledge the children have on what foods impact our bodies in different ways. They used their senses to explore the ingredients smelling the onions, feeling the butternut squash and tasting the beetroot ๐Ÿ….

The children were invited to roll their own burgers, as they did they shared with Allan burgers are patties and they are round. They used their gross motor skills to roll the mince, squash in the onions and then flatten the meatball into a burger shape.

The children were super excited to see Wendy cook their burgers ready for tea time! ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿณ

Why not try making burgers at home for tea over the weekend! ๐Ÿ”

๐ŸŒ Townhouse have gone Bananas ๐ŸŒ

As we celebrate national banana split day, Preschool have enjoyed a visit from our very own super chef Sally who came dressed and ready for the occasion. The childrenโ€™s new name for Sally is โ€œBanana super heroโ€
Alongside Sally the preschool children have enjoyed creating Banana splits to enjoy after their lunch, the children have demonstrated their fine motor skills as they used knives to chop up the fruit talking about health and safety as they did this.
Itโ€™s also tasted delicious ๐Ÿ˜‹
Preschool had discussions about where bananas come from and were very excited to show their knowledge about the different types of bananas and we have carried out scientific experiments making predictions about whether we think bananas float or sink. ๐ŸŒ๐ŸŒ๐ŸŒ

๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘From September 2021 we have new Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) guidance that we must follow. In response to these changes, we are in the process of reviewing policies, procedures, systems and our own curriculum.

The EYFS provides the early years sector with the structure (bones) of what we MUST offer all children, we are then able to design and implement a curriculum that enables us to add the 'meat to the bones'. These changes have been embraced and welcomed by us all!

๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ†Our curriculum approach has always been very child centred, now we are able to further build upon our own pedagogical approaches (theories and practice which inform our teaching approach) to further enhance our systems and enable the team to spend more time on purposeful play and even less time on paperwork! We will be sending families information over the next two weeks but you can see how happy our first management team are here in the training that we delivered to them! We have a fabulous training event for the teams next week where we will cascade this information to them and hear their feedback on the changes (standby as we will share this with you)

๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿ’œWe are proud to have such a dedicated and strong Senior Management team who work closely with each other and ourselves to ensure the 'golden thread of leadership' translates into the best days at nursery for all children- thanks team from Emma & Julie

๐ŸŽˆToddler Adventures in a Hot Air Balloon.

'A skilful practitioner can decide when to stand back, when to interact and when to provide a bridge as the child steps into new ideas and experiences.'

๐ŸŽˆTerrific Tuesday and the children of Lawton Road have had a fantastic day traveling up into the clouds in a hot air balloon. The children's faces smiled with delight and the day began with an abundance of curious toddlers awaiting their journey ahead. Elliot and Rory eagerly took turns climbing inside, they engaged in imaginary role play together, Rory said he saw an "Aeroplane" and Elliot "Birds and a Balloon". Amelia was in awe when she saw all the balloons and began to count and name the colours as she looked up from the basket.

๐ŸŽˆTo extend this experience further we introduced the cameras for the children to explore and use as part of their role play, the children were observed taking each otherโ€™s photographs and saying โ€œcheeseโ€.

๐ŸŽˆTo extend the childrenโ€™s interest in role play we created a picnic area for when the balloon landed. We observed the children problem solving and critically thinking as they took time to unscrew the flask and understand how the mechanism worked to allow the water to release from the flask. Elliot shouted with delight once he tipped it up and said, โ€œThe water has come out in the cup.โ€ with a sense of achievement and a big smile. Weโ€™ve been on a fabulous journey today and look forward to another fun filled day tomorrow.

Experiencing the World Around Us

๐Ÿฅ– The Toddler 2 children have enjoyed a wonderful fun filled week focusing on various occupations which relate to their interests observed through play. We know Toddlers are active learners who require opportunities to practice what they know and consolidate their learning from one context to another. By enhancing our environments and enabling the children to revisit real life experiences this enables opportunities for children to practice what they know and to extend children's learning providing opportunities for new knowledge and skills and a deeper understanding of the world around them.
๐Ÿš’ Various occupations were focused on from emergency services, painting and decorating, construction workers and retail shops. High levels of play were observed throughout, the children particularly enjoyed the retail day with various parts of the room created to reflect a different shop, from the flower shop to the bakery. To support the children's interest, they had the opportunity to make their own bread, the children were given the opportunity to add their own ingredients, make decisions and predict. They then enjoyed the finished product at snack time with smiles of satisfaction. This too encouraged lots of opportunity for new language to be introduced and mathematical opportunities as they weighed and measured their ingredients.
๐Ÿ‘ A big thank you to all parents who are joining in with the home learning each week, as one weekโ€™s journey comes to an end, we cannot wait for another exciting journey to begin in Toddler 2.
