SOUND MOVES - PROJECT 21 @ BMA

The first 5 bars!

"I'm very impressed with the members of how they come up with something out of the box. It got tricky in a few places, but I hope you will find the piece interesting..." CHOW JUNYI

Final edits have been received from the composer in New York of the 5 minute ‘MCOverture’, the work co-composed by members of the BMA Youth Orchestra during lockdown, together with composer, JunYi Chow and commissioned by Spectrum Culture Exchange.

Each member of BMA's flagship ensemble wrote a short melodic phrase from which JunYi derived inspiration for a new work for orchestra.

Led by BMA's director, Kevin Field, the work will be premiered in the second quarter of 2021 as a prelude to, 'SOUND MOVES | PROJECT 21', a series of events for composer’s work-shopping new music specifically written for youth, community and school orchestras.

Guess how many paper cranes we (still) have to fold by tomorrow evening?!

Sadako and the One Thousand Paper Cranes
ACE Malaysia 2019
Saturday 7.30pm

Curated especially for ACE by Doppo Narita, 'Sadako and the One Thousand Paper Cranes' tells the moving and humble story of Hiroshmia-born Sadako a lively an athletic individual – the star of her school’s running team.

And then the dizzy spells start. Soon ill with leukemia, an aftereffect of the atom bomb that fell on her city when she was only an infant, Sadako approaches her illness as she did her running – with irrepressible spirit.

Recalling a Japanese legend, Sadako sets to work folding paper cranes. For the legend holds that if a sick person folds one thousand cranes, the gods will grant her wish and make healthy again.
