Keeping a Travel Journal 30/08/2021

Keeping a Travel Journal

Keeping an illustrated journal, especially of a particular journey or place, is such a wonderful thing to do - it will give you and others pleasure for years to come. Having your own sketches, drawings and paintings with hand-written notes and labels creates such a personal reminder of places you have seen, far more than photographs ever could. It does require a little preparation and a little time every day but it is SO worth it....

Let there be light!

In other words, set the right tone! The subject of all my paintings is really light, rather than wildlife, dance, the sea, children, gardens etc. Without light there would just be a black sheet of paper! Light reveals all the forms and colours and helps create atmosphere. Make light the subject of your paintings too. Here are some tips:...

What complementary colours can do for you! 04/03/2021

(Because each complement is made from the remaining two primaries.) Think about this! The outer wheel shows a warm and a cool variant of each colour....

Six months after my husband was taken seriously ill with an incurable brain tumour, I am finally beginning to start painting again. I’ve just finished a Costa Brava seascape I started with two of my students in February, and have begun a painting of the roe deer in the garden of the historic house where we lived from April to August while our new flat here was prepared.

I've just finished this sketch from my India trip - in pen and ink with watercolour and oil pastel. I painted this because I loved the colours and the innocent girl going for water.

The stall of my cards, prints and paintings at the Marriott was successful, with good sales. The two painting demos ( of the white horse, first stage) went well, as did the judging of the art competition. Hopefully we'll have new Art Group members, and through contacts I made I have paintings on display in La Xara, and hopefully soon in Javea.

13/02/2016

Here is my latest painting, just finished this afternoon. It's a practice for a demonstration I'm doing in front of the public in March, at the Mariott Homes and Lifestyle show in Denia. I'll paint the first layer for them. Wish me luck!
