The children also loved creating their own stickmen out of a wide variety of Loose Parts they collected from the woods while using their problem solving skills and team work to build their own homes for Stickman to visit.

"Santa rescued stickman...I'd shout for help if I got lost"

"Look I made Stickman, he has white arms because he's been playing in the snow"

"When you go to the woods at nursery you have to stay together to keep everyone Safe"

"Oh look its a horse footprint, do you think it's stickmans horse?"

The boys and girls in the 3-5 Cozy Cabin have been enthusiastic to learn all about themselves and each others families. The children have been turn taking and showing consideration to others during group discussion developing our awareness of when to talk and when to listen while talking about our family trees and who is in them.

The boys and girls have been discussing similarities and differences in their features while creating self portraits with the feature stones.

The children have enjoyed playing the soundtrack game to develop their listening skills and turn taking.

The boys and girls have discovered the diversity of family members such as grandparents, pets, brothers, sister and parents exploring these through role play.

They have been developing their prediction and estimating skills, through creating their own magic potions. They used a range of natural materials they found around the garden such as soil, sticks, stones, and other Loose Parts. During these experiences the children have also used a variety of instruments including rulers, scales and measuring jugs when measuring lengths and capacities.

The children have been helping us to create some new areas within the 3-5 room over the last few days. They have been interested in pirates, Goldilocks and the 3 bears and sensory lights. We have also created areas for children to build, create, explore their imaginations and emotions and relax. This is helping to support our new children to transition in to the nursery and from other rooms.

โ›ตโ˜ ๏ธAhoy there shipmates! โ˜ ๏ธโ›ต
The children in the 3-5 room have been using their imagination and teamwork through role play to sail around the world to a variety of different destinations. Some of the children chose to use the atlas to find the destination they where sailing to. The children further explored the different treasures which they found in the pirates treasure box and created their own treasure maps, pirate hats and telescopes to aid in their search for their hidden treasure around the garden!
"We are going to America!"
"I go to the beach arrrrr I'm a pirate!"

This experience developed children's...
โ›ต Turn taking and problem solving skills while helping the teachers build the pirate ship.
โ›ต Introducing new vocabulary while children discussed the different continents, seas and how rough or smooth their journey would be.
โ˜ ๏ธConfidence through the use of song.

As a follow on from yesterday's learning the 3-5s have enjoyed taking part in these experiences;

๐Ÿ’ฆ Estimating how many cups fills a variety of sized containers. The children did this while creating some orange soup. "Oranges give us vitamin C to help our bodies fight germs."

๐Ÿง™โ€โ™€๏ธ Using our senses of touch, smell and sight to create our own sensory potions. Some of the ingredients included mint, orange zest, vinegar and bi carbonate soda.

๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ“๐ŸExploring our sense of taste by being blind folded and guessing what fruit we could taste.

The 3-5 children in the Cosy Cabin have also discussed the importance of brushing our teeth. We provided the children with giant teeth for them to practise brushing using toothbrushes and toothpaste in a fun filled way ๐Ÿฆท๐Ÿชฅ

โ€œI brush my teeth before bed so I donโ€™t have any germs in the morningโ€

โ€œIt smells a bit mintyโ€

This was a great sensory experience which encouraged the children to engage in conversation and develop their fine motor skills

We also added some coriander, basil and mint to our play dough station, encouraging the children to use their sense of smell to identify the ingredients they were adding ๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐ŸŒฟ

Following on from our senses experiences, the children were again given the opportunity to explore this further by -
๐Ÿคš Using their touch to explore and describe a range of materials
๐Ÿ‘ƒUsing their sense of smell to identify the scent and match it to the correct picture
๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Using their sight to look at themselves and others to paint parts of their bodies. Children showed good knowledge of their body parts as they painted and named them.
๐ŸThe children also discussed foods which keep us healthy and help our bodies grow. Through a fun matching game we looked at healthy and unhealthy foods sharing good knowledge from what they have learned.

[05/27/21]   Today we share the sad news that Eric Carle has sadly passed away at age 91๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ›

Thank you, Eric Carle for sharing your great talent with so many generations of young readers, a wonderful legacy to leave children everywhere.

When asked why he thinks The Very Hungry Caterpillar has remained popular for so long, Carle said, โ€œI think it is a book of hope. Children need hope. You, little insignificant caterpillar can grow up into a beautiful butterfly and fly into the world with your talent.โ€

Letโ€™s all read an Eric Carle book today in honour of a great man โค๏ธ

Our 3-5 children in the Cosy Cabin have been engaging in conversations about frogs within their play recently ๐Ÿธ

To deepen their awareness and knowledge of frogs, we introduced a provocation to our art and craft area ๐ŸŽจ

This opened an opportunity for the children to discuss and compare their ideas, create their own frog and to lead their own investigation, discovering facts about the life cycle of a frog ๐Ÿธ

Our Tweenies have enjoyed learning about planting and growing things recently. They helped plant seeds outdoors and then took part in other relative experiences.
We had hot chocolate and oil as mud and green sensory rice. The children role played and planted the fruit and veg into the trays and plant pots. They used the magnifying glasses to investigate the bugs that were in the mud ๐Ÿ‘€
We also had shaving foam with cling film that had bugs hidden in it for the children to search around for them!
Lots of fun was had throughout this experience ๐Ÿ› ๐Ÿœ ๐ŸŽ ๐Ÿ… ๐Ÿฅ• ๐Ÿ‡
