Aldershot Senior Ski Club

We are an active social ski club who meet every Saturday morning at Aldershot Ski Slope from 8am to 9.30pm to improve our skiing skills.

Operating as usual

[09/22/21]   Training will be on slope 2 only this Saturday. The lift on slope 1 has broken again.

Grass skiing is still happening afterwards in Brook, please see your email for details.

[03/05/21]   We're back !

Next training session is on 3rd April. Book your place on our website.

Not even a lockdown can stop ASSC members from skiing.

[10/15/20]   The 1st session of winter training is this Saturday with the aim of covering all aspects of technique, getting you ready for the snow next year. The waiting list will close later today so put your name down soon if you want to attend.

We are starting our winter training on Saturday 17th October. Gates will go away for a while and the focus will be on technique getting you ready for the snow in 2021. If you haven’t been to training since lockdown then this is the ideal time to start and get your ski legs back before lockdown is eased and we all head over to the alps !

19/09/2020

During today's training we presented Pete Rezin's memorial bench to his family. The bench will now be a permanent part of the ski centre in remembrance of a valued and very popular member of ASSC.

[09/10/20]   Just to give you the heads up there is a problem with the main ski lift and the centre have had to take the decision to close the main lift. They are awaiting delivery of a new grease cartridge for the return wheel that is making some noises suggesting the bearings are running dry. A new cartridge was ordered 4 weeks ago but the supplier has let the centre down. They have assurances that it will be delivered on Friday or Monday - if delivered on Friday this weekend’s training session will be run as normal, otherwise we will only be able to use slope 2. The centre have apologised but they cannot afford for any damage to the bearings.

Mist on a Saturday morning, mist system working correctly

25/07/2020

Great to be back training after 4 months off. A big thank you to Pete for getting us up and running again. Also, thanks to everyone who helped this week to get the centre into good shape.

[07/24/20]   Safety inspection all signed off so tomorrows training is going ahead!

[07/19/20]   We are planning a return to training on 25th July. If you want to come then you need to pre-book yourself onto the session using our booking system. Please check your email for details on how to do this.

ASSC met up today to do some socially distanced grass skiing with a few llamas as spectators. Big thanks to the Merry Harrier for allowing us to use their land and providing an excellent lunch afterwards.

[07/18/20]   Just a reminder that the grass skiing today is at the Merry Harriers pub in Hambledon (GU8 4DR) not Brook as before.

[07/16/20]   Volunteers wanted! We are hoping to get access to Aldershot next Tuesday to do some maintenance, like cutting the grass, removing weeds, tidying up etc. If anyone is available could you let us know and with any luck we can get the slope ready for a training session on 25th.

Aldershot Snowsports for the Disabled

Active Nation has closed the ski centre at Aldershot until June, at the very earliest. It will obviously depend on the Government when they allow sporting venues to open again.

As a result, I have removed the May session from the events calendar.

Stay safe, stay home....

[03/20/20]   As of tonight the ski centre has closed indefinitely until further notice.
There is no training

[03/19/20]   As things stand we are currently planning to hold our training session this Saturday. We will be asking members to respect the social distancing measures requested by the government, particularly in the boot room, and there will be no social gathering in the drinks area afterwards. Outside, everyone will be wearing gloves and provided you stay a ski length apart there should be no issues.

If you are at risk or feeling unwell then please stay at home otherwise please come along and enjoy a ski, especially if you've had your holiday cancelled.

The situation is very fluid at the moment so please check here tomorrow evening before you come.

This year the club has been investing heavily in new equipment to make your life easier. It has been noticed that some people like to wash their skis and boots after a session on the dry stuff (can’t think why) and there can often be long queues for the bucket and brush. This can make people late for their after session coffee which is something we just can’t have. The club has therefore bought two new buckets and brushes to help speed up the process. These will be put out on the grass after the session (as we do not want to make the front of the building and front door area too wet). Please feel free to use them. (We may invest in some towels too if we afford it!)

Good session on railing this morning, good turnout...look at the lift queue on slope 1 ⛷

04/01/2020

We had a good turnout for our 1st session of 2020, there were also plenty of volunteers to prepare the base for the memorial bench for Pete Rezin...thank you to those of you who actually did the hard work 🛠

Devine confirmation that it won’t rain for our morning sessions! We are always blessed with great weather!
