Despite being covid house-bound, I am still able to enjoy preparing for next Thursday's Return To Work Webinar for @twinstrust members.

I've just created this free gift for the 62 sign-ups to help them on their way.

One of the blocks that often comes up when preparing to return to work after a career break or looking for a different role after maternity leave is:

'Is there any point if I can't find a career that fits around my parental responsibilities and lifestyle?' - especially for parents of multiples.

There are recruiters, jobs boards and employers falling over themselves to attract skilled professionals who want a successful flexible, family-friendly career.

And, hopefully, here's the reassuring evidence.
Club members wife and wife Anneliese and Laura share their journey to twin parenthood:

‘My wife and I used GCRM to help us create our beautiful babies. Our first round was a miscarriage so we decided to put in my wifes last two eggs as we did reciprocal IVF, I carried them. I have 3 in freezer still as I had mine frozen at blastocyst. Little did we know both our embryos second time round would stick and we now have Max and Maeve who are now 13 months. I think any pregnancy sounds like you never stop worrying but twins I soon realised its best to stay off the Internet and just get to every scan with confidence knowing your doing all you can to grow two healthy babies. Its the best gift.’

TAPS fact Tuesday 💙💙

Taps donors can suffer with auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder (ANSD)
The ear gathers sounds from the environment and changes them into messages the brain can understand. But sometimes these messages are jumbled. Other times, the sounds don’t reach the brain. This is ANSD.

It can only be detected by ABR -Auditory Brainstem Response hearing tests and isn’t picked up in the newborn screening as a lot of babies can still hear sounds. It’s not routinely given.

I’ve had to ask for Asher to be screened. It’s happening on the 12th January. Leo’s hearing is also being tested. I’m not feeling too worried as although we were concerned, Asher has started to babble and try and speak a lot more. Funnily it’s Leo that is quieter now. Will be hoping and praying all goes well. Please help spread awareness of TAPS and it’s long term effects. 💙💙

🔊 Big Steps for Small Feet is back in July 2022! We were chuffed at what we raised for it, and know you would love it for next year 🙌

We will be partnering with 8 other charities supporting bereaved families to take on Snowdon together 👏

Following on from our Ben Nevis climb in 2021, we are proud to hold this joint event again with eight other charities which support families that have experienced the loss of a baby: Anam Cara Fasgadh, Sands, the stillbirth & neonatal death charity, Bliss, Child Bereavement UK, Tommy's, Star for Harris, Twins Trust, and The Lullaby Trust.

The instigator and inspiration behind this event is Mike McGuire, co-founder of Anam Cara Fasgadh, a Scottish bereavement charity.

His only son, Kyle, was stillborn a decade ago and Michael has dedicated his time raising funds and awareness for various charities. As a father suffering bereavement he found it particular tough and tells us, “Men sometimes are stigmatised to be strong and bottle up. I truly believe we can break the silence and stigma. Losing a child is an unimaginable pain. A time when you can feel very alone in a big world. We will walk together and talk together again

✨Where?✨

Mount Snowden, Caernarfon, Wales, LL55 4UL.

✨When?✨

9am on Sunday 3 July 2022 (expected finish at 5pm approx.). We will meet at the event hub in Llanberis and travel together to the start of the climb.

2021 was so very special, and to see 100 walkers climb Ben Nevis was incredible, and we can’t wait to see this truly unique vision happen again.

You will receive direct emails from our fundraising team and access to our page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/bigstepsforsmallfeet2022 where you will be able to share with others taking part for their chosen charity.

Sign up and climb with us at this special fundraising event! 🏔️

When Ella-Mae Michalski was pregnant with her twin girls, a problem was found with her cervix and she was put on complete bedrest in hospital and warned that standing up could result in miscarriage.
Her daughters Ruby & Bella were born weighing just 900g and 910g and were so tiny, they fit into the palm of a hand.
The fragile babies were given a slim chance of survival and Ella-Mae said: "The dreams of holding my babies close in my arms was replaced by tubes, wires and scary medical terms I'd never heard before."
But now the girls are three and thriving and the family are looking forward to a wonderful Christmas together.
It's school tour season and parents and carers are taking guided tours around the classrooms and listening to head teachers celebrating their schools.

Babies who are born prematurely or at a low birth weight are more vulnerable, so safer sleep advice is especially important. To support families with premature babies, we have a Safer Sleep Advice for Premature Babies booklet. Written in collaboration with Bliss and Twins Trust the booklet is full of advice for parents, grandparents and carers to support them with safer sleep.

International Multiple Births Awareness Week 2021 draws to a close today.

The theme for 2021 focuses on collaborations, building on partnerships and networks between multiples, parents of multiples, support groups, researchers and other relevant organisations.

At Twins Trust collaboration is hugely important for us.

We partner up with different organisations to make sure we provide the best support for our families. #collaboration #partnerships #IMBAW2021
In recent months, the Pregnancy & Babies Charities Network has taken time to reflect upon, review, and revise their manifesto. Group B Strep Support is proud to put our name to this important partnership working.

The Covid19 pandemic has shone a bright light on many known inequalities faced by new and expectant parents and their babies. It has emphasised that much needs to be done to reduce inequalities and improve outcomes. The PBCN’s revised manifesto outlines the work the network does as a collective, holding decision-makers to account and encouraging positive change for all families, regardless of ethnicity, income, or circumstance. As a member of the PBCN, we are hopeful that the focus and actions highlighted in the updated manifesto can make a difference.

Whilst we want you to be aware of this very important work, it may be a difficult read for some, so please pause and consider your self-care.

It was a great end to 2021 for one family who play the Twins Trust lottery when they won a £1,000 prize.
Jenna and Craig Selby and their six-yearold twins, Edie and Felix, were thrilled to learn about their exciting win. Jenna, who lives in Hertfordshire, said: “I’ve been playing the lottery since I joined Tamba (Twins Trust’s former name) when my twins were born. I loved following it to read other people’s stories and experiences. “When the winnings came in the post I was so surprised. It helped massively with Christmas and a few extra Twins Trust lottery lines".

Triplet parents faced tough decision after TAPS diagnosis

When parents-to-be Penny and Adam were told their unborn triplets had a rare complication, they had a difficult decision to make about the future of their babies and feared losing all three.

At just 17 weeks, Penny Speed discovered her triplets had TAPS (Twin Anaemia-Polycythaemia Sequence).

On International TAPS Day (3 March 2022), Penny and Adam are celebrating their healthy children, who are now two-years-old.

3rd March marks International TAPS Day.

"All the stories we read on the Twins Trust website gave us a little bit of hope."

Life could have been very different for Keziah and husband Jordan, following an eventful pregnancy when their twins were diagnosed with both TTTS (Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome) and TAPS (Twin Anaemia-Polycythaemia Sequence). Doctors performed life-saving surgery on the twins while they were still in the womb.

Keziah has shared her story on International TAPS Day as she is keen to raise awareness of the rare complication that is specific to monochorionic pregnancies (babies who share a placenta). It occurs in 3-5 percent of these pregnancies.

"And we were lucky enough to have twins, and one baby born at 2:02pm - what are the chances?

"Congratulations to all of the families."
