Well the time has come for the MedSoc 2020-21 Committee to hand over the reigns to your new committee! 😭

Where do we even start with summarising our year with COVID? It has been the opposite of what we initially expected and planned for going in. We hoped that we would be able to return to a somewhat normal MedSoc schedule and provide the STELLAR MedSoc university experience but as we all know that didn’t exactly happen... 😩

We want to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for being patient with us and attending the limited events that we were able to have! It’s been an absolute blast getting to meet the new freshers and keep the spirit of MedSoc alive. 💃🏼✨

In June 2020, during the FIRST lockdown, we covered 564.71 miles for our selected charity, Friends of Anchor, and ended up raising over £1500!! We are so proud to have been able to support them for another year. They are an amazing organization who support haematology and oncology patients here in the North East! 🥰

Our MedSoc Introduction video “2020: Disconnected” is something that we are also EXTREMELY proud of and took so much time to prepare alongside COVID guidelines. If you haven’t seen it already we definitely recommend giving it a watch! 😉

Finally, we want to wish a HUGE good luck to next year's committee! This year we have been able to make friends for life so we can’t wait to see how they get on and hope they can bring back more of the usual MedSoc programme! 🙈

For now it's goodbye from us! Lots of love,

Your Quarantine Queens, MedSoc 2020-2021 xx

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

P.S. Many thanks to the 2019-2020 Committee for posing as our body doubles 💅🏼

2020: DISCONNECTED

Did you catch the 2020-2021 MedSoc Committee’s introduction video last year? 👀

Don’t worry if you didn’t! You can still watch it now! 😉❤️

Before the 2020-2021 MedSoc Committee say their final farewell...😭

We just wanted to post a few Easter eggs that were hidden in our MedSoc video! They were only onscreen for a couple of minutes but had A LOT of detail involved with sneaky references and nods to our past committee members! 🥰

From Doctors+ to NGTube to Nessflix, there’s so much hidden. Have a look and see who you recognise or what you can find... 😉

The length of the Dodgeball Movie is very specific! 👀

We’ve all been feeling a bit isolated this lockdown, so why not get involved in our photo competition?! Send us your most “Life in Lockdown” style picture and we will share some of the best snaps! ❤️

[01/23/21]   💃 BURNS NIGHT 2021 💃

Unfortunately, the MedChi and MedSoc Burns Supper has been cancelled this year due to lockdown restrictions (😢). The University of Glasgow have provided details below on how to get involved in their virtual Burn’s night…

"Greetings from the University of Glasgow in Scotland,

This is a message from the University’s Centre for Robert Burns Studies. It is being sent to more than 2,000 addresses, including international Scottish societies, ceilidh bands, arts groups, social groups, sports clubs, publics institutions, museums, schools, universities, parishes, whisky societies, communities, masonic lodges, charities, trade associations, and businesses which hosted Burns suppers or Burns Nights in recent years.

The purpose of this email is to invite you and/or your association to participate in a unique, virtual, and global celebration of Burns Night in the coming weeks.

Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, thousands of events around the world —including Burns suppers— are likely to be cancelled or limited this winter. Yet this does not mean Burns Night 2021 has to become a non-event. In fact, we’d like to offer you a unique way to cheer away the gloom whilst sharing Burns’s message of universal love and friendship.

Whatever you do around Burns Night —whether you attend a Burns supper or must stay confined at home with a ‘dram’ of whisky and a plate of haggis— we’re inviting you to share at least one picture of your night on social media using the hashtag #VirtualBurnsNight. This can be a picture of your meal, of your dress, of a Burns performance, of your family or anything that fits the Burns Night theme. Should you not have access to social media, feel free to email us your picture at [email protected] and we will post it for you.

Sharing one picture only takes a few seconds and yet, if enough of us participate, we might just turn this year's Burns Night into an unprecedented, online, and global feast, fighting the pandemic blues whilst celebrating Burns with images of joy from across the seas.

With best wishes for the new year,

Dr Paul Malgrati
(On behalf of the Centre for Robert Burns Studies)"

xoxo,
MedSoc
