Prioritise yourself 🙌

Might seem a bit selfish but I feel it’s a fair point

I think too many people are out there just trying to please others

Letting their goals, passions and interests take the back seat

Leading them to feel miserable 😩

How many times have you taken on far too much work, booked in too many meetings or just said “yes” too much when asked to do something?

Pushing back your plans just to suit others?

Or maybe you’ve finally started eating well again and exercising regularly 💪

Now everyone down at the office is going out for drinks after work

Be selfish

Put yourself first 👍

If you think that putting your own plans first will turn you into a fitter, happier and healthier person…

…learn to say no!

How can you set that up for the week ahead?

Planning

Set aside pockets of time to yourself where you won’t answer your phone or be distracted by others 👌

For me, this is when I train

Headphones in, phone on airplane mode, no distractions

5x 1 hour slots to myself each week, in the diary, nobody can contact me then

It keeps me focused on my goals and I always leave feeling motivated and energised 🚀

Which means I can go back to work feeling refreshed

Negative Pull ups

I duno about you guys but I’ve always like the idea of pull ups, but where to start?

There are lots of ways to learn how to do a pull up
🔸 resistance bands
🔸 assisted pull up machine

But my favourite way is to
1️⃣ Start by doing a dead hang, basically work on holding your body weight. Just hold as long as you can. Repeat 3-5 times

2️⃣ The add engaging your lats, think of the movement you do before (or should be doing) when you are doing lat pull downs. Now hang in this position. Again hold for as long as possible 3-5 times.

Now comes the hard part, negative pull ups…

Jump up to the bar and lower yourself down, slowly. Start of with a 3 second decent, then 5 and build it up. This helps you learn to control your body in the pull up position, along with being in the correct position from top to bottom.

Aim to do 5-10 second decent and 4-8 reps, for 3-5 sets.

They are hard but the are definitely worth it to improve your pull ups.

I see it time and time again 😒

Women being met with a confused expression when they explain that they squat, deadlift and press heavy, all for fun 🤨

Because unless you’re a professional athlete or physique competitor, why would you? 🙄

The notion that women can’t or shouldn’t train to be as strong as possible is ridiculous and needs to stop ❌

Typically men and women have varying goals

Men want to get “jacked” or “huge”

Women want to be “toned” or “shapely”

The reality is, they are both achieved the same way with the same programming 👏

To build muscle, you must lift weights and consume ample calories to recover 👍

The amount of muscle and effort required to lift a weight 20 times without failing is insignificant…

…Compared to lifting a weight 6-10 times and achieving failure ✅

High repetition training absolutely has its place but it’s woefully overemphasised and leads to suboptimal results

Always train to be as strong as possible, that goes for men AND women 💪

Feel like you get very little out of a Lat Pulldown?

Find your wrists or forearms give out before anything else?

I’ve got you ⬇️

Picture 2 shows the standard bar most people associate with a Lat Pulldown. Great for learning the action but really want to grow your lats? Stop using this bar. It’ll...

➡️ Restrict your Range of Motion
➡️ Prevent you from shortening the lats
➡️ Strain the wrist with the pronated grip

Will it target your back? Of course it will but it won’t give us the shortening of the lat muscles we are looking for. This will target more upper back😬

Picture 2 shows elbows flared out, ideally we want elbows in front and pulling them down to the front of our rib cage. This will align with our lats much better and get that fully shortened position we are looking for.

Picture 3 shows an ideal attachment which will allow us to do this, we can now:

➡️ take a neutral grip
➡️ allow elbows to be in front
➡️ give the setup to allow for full range of motion for the lats

Don’t have an attachment like this? Grab some D-handles and put them over a standard bar, roughly shoulder width apart like picture 4💪🏻
