Our motto, `We Care-We Challenge-We Learn', captures succinctly what we stand for in ensuring that our pupils feel safe and happy, and are encouraged to aim high and extend themselves whilst at school. Similarly, `A School for Thinkers', expresses our commitment towards helping children to become independent in the way they are able to tackle the issues and challenges they will face throughout the

Dear Parents and Carers,
Firstly, many thanks for all your support today in helping us with drop off and pick up- much appreciated. Well done to all children and staff as well.
Having had a full discussion with both Chairs of Governors, we have made a decision to close the school tomorrow. Given that there is more snow forecast between now and tomorrow morning and the below zero temperatures overnight, the roads and pathways will be even more treacherous than they currently are.
We hope that by giving you early notice, you will be able to make arrangements for your children. We plan to open on Monday 5th March at the usual time. Should there be any change to this we will send out a further communication.
Early School Closure
After discussions with out Chair of Governors and the continued poor weather conditions, we have decided to close early.
Please collect the children at 1.30pm today.

We have a vacancy for a midday supervisory assistant (MSA) Monday to Friday from 11.55-1.20pm. This job is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children, wants to be active and can stay calm at all times.
Your role will involve:
- supporting children during the lunchtime period.
- ensuring a happy and safe playtime.
- escorting the children safely to the dining hall and continue to supervise them there.
Please pop into the office to pick up an application form if you are interested in this role.

Dear Parents & Carers,
We will be open as normal tomorrow, Tuesday 12th December. We will keep our registers open until 9.15am to allow for safe journey time in the morning.
However, the only gate that will be open in the morning is the gate leading on to the Infant playground. All other gates will be closed for health and safety reasons. It is essential all children are well supervised as there may well be ice/snow still on the ground.
Children will enter the school building at the following points:
Years 1 & 2 – via Cypress class
Nursery & Reception – via Holly class, where the class teachers will be there to meet them. Please can we ask you to explain to the children tonight that you will be leaving them with the teachers at the door. They will then be taken through to the hall and to their classrooms once all children have arrived.
Years 3 -6 – via Juniper class
Please note that if there are any health or safety issues when we assess the site tomorrow morning, there will be signage on the gate directing you to which entrance should be used. Your patience and support will be appreciated.
Please also ensure your children have warm coats, hats, gloves etc to wear. We will send out a ParentMail to inform you of pick up arrangements.
Year 1/2 Pantomime trip - we have checked with the coach company and Watford Palace Theatre and the trip will go ahead as planned.
Christmas plays/events will take place as shared on previous letters/newsletters.
The school will be closed tomorrow, Monday 11th December due to the adverse weather conditions. I have consulted with both Chairs of Governors, senior staff and another local Head Teacher to make this decision. We are all in agreement that we will not open tomorrow. We would not be able to guarantee the adequate levels of staffing necessary and there are concerns about the health and safety of children and staff getting to school.
This may cause inconvenience but we know you will understand that safety must remain the first priority for all our children and staff. I hope that by giving you early and adequate notice this allows you to make arrangements for tomorrow.
We will post a further message to update you tomorrow and currently plan to open on Tuesday 12th December.
Thank you for your support.

The Hertfordshire Road Safety Partnership is launching a new campaign to ‘put it away’ as many drivers are continuing to use their handheld mobile phone while driving. However good your driving is, checking a text, browsing, scrolling through your music means you not paying attention to the road, things happen that you cannot react in time to. Remove the temptation and put your mobile away in a bag, in the glove compartment, out of reach – it is just not worth the risk. www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/putitaway
Soon the penalties for using a handheld mobile phone while driving are doubling to £200 fine and six points on your licence – an immediate ban for new drivers.

On Tuesday 26th January 2016 Tanners Wood School Choir went to the O2 Arena in London to join voices with a mass choir of 7,490 school children. The Year 5/6 Boys Football Team played their fourth and final league match of the season on Friday evening winning in emphatic fashion as they beat Bedmond 7-0 at home to win the Parmiters' mini-league title. The boys dominated from the first whistle and they were very difficult to defend against with some precise, fast passing around Bedmond's penalty area.
Riley L continued his impressive goal scoring form as he scored 2 goals to bring his tally up to 12 goals in 4 games, with captain Charlie H also scoring a single goal to make it 5 goals in 4 games for himself. Nathaniel W was Tanners Wood's goalkeeper in the second half in which he hadn't touched the ball. In the final minute of the game Tanners Wood were awarded a penalty for a foul and Nathaniel W was given the opportunity to take it and he cooly dispatched the penalty hard and low to the 'keepers right with his only touch of the game. Man of the Match was awarded to Year 5 Owen W for a well-rounded performance that saw him score a hat-trick with some sublime finishing to make his goal scoring record 5 goals in 4 games.
The boys finished the Parmiters' mini-league season winning all 4 games that they played and scoring 29 goals. For winning their mini-league the boys have qualified for Champions League which begins in the spring term after Christmas. This is the 5th time in the last 6 seasons that the Tanners Wood Year 5/6 Boys have won the Parmiters' mini-league. Well done boys, this is an outstanding achievement.
The Year 5/6 Boys Football Team continued to impress on Tueday night as they won 7-1 away at Abbots Langley. On a very small, boggy pitch the boys did very well to create so many goal scoring chances with some accurate passing and agile dribbling. The goals were scored by Riley L (2), Olly F (2), Owen W (1), Josh B-C (1) and Nicholas W (1). Man of the Match was awarded to captain Charlie H for an outstanding indivdual performance in which he oragainsed the team, he was strong in every tackle he made and didn't misplace a pass, a true captain's performance.
The boys have now scored a massive 22 goals and conceded just 3 goals in 3 matches!
Well done again, boys. On to the next game, Friday at home vs Bedmond.
The Year 5/6 Boys Football Team continued their very strong start to the season on Tuesday evening with a 5-2 victory at home against Divine Saviour. As a team they passed the ball magnificently and created many goals scoring chances which ultimately lead to the them winning the game. Special mentions go to Josh B-C for a strong battling performance and Nathaniel for making 3 outstanding saves in the first half. Man of the Match though, was awarded to Riley L for scoring 4 goals for the second game running, a truely fantastic achievement.
Well Done Boys, another great result.
