Why does behaviour dip in October? 🤔 It’s not just the students! Sometimes, as teachers, our energy dips too. After the excitement of the new school year, the routine can get tough. Behaviour tends to be rough after the summer holidays, and the darker nights, bad weather, and longer days all play a part. 🌧️
Here are some tips to help keep things on track in your MFL classes:
1️⃣ Consistent Routines: Keep routines clear and steady. Predictability gives students a sense of security and keeps them focused.
2️⃣ Engaging Activities: Shake things up! Use games, cultural insights, and interactive tasks to re-engage students and lift the energy in the room.
3️⃣ Set Expectations: Regularly remind students of your behaviour expectations. It's easier to reinforce than to reset!
4️⃣ Breaks: Include short breaks in the lesson to help everyone (including you!) reset and refocus.
5️⃣ Positive Reinforcement: A little praise goes a long way! Celebrate even the smallest wins to keep students motivated and in check.
