It's English language day! Auf and Bei are the most commonly mistranslated when it comes to prepositions of place. Usually you mean at the cinema, at the trade show, at the airport, at the event or party. You don’t mean “on” and you certainly don’t mean “by”.

We differentiate between a point in time and a period in time. In German you say seit und bis. Look at how we do it in English.

a. I am hungry (present) – Sarah said she was hungry
b. I was hungry (past) – Sarah said she had been hungry
c. I will go (future) – Sarah said she would go
d. I had gone to dinner when… (past perfect) - Sarah said she had gone to dinner when… (no change)

Differences between British and American English. Some of the basics are very obvious:
1. Americans use z where we Brits use s globalization / globalisation.
2. They have different words for things: trunk/boot, elevator/lift, sweets/candy, garbage/rubbish, period/full stop, sidewalk/pavement etc.
3. They tend to spell words with one “l” when we use two: modeling / modelling and dialed / dialled.
4. What happened to ‘re’? center/centre, meter/metre

Get it right: There is no “s” at the end of information. It’s also uncountable so you say the information is, not the informations are.
