Teach a Child to Fend

It is been said, give a child a fish and he/she will eat for a day but teach a child to fish and he/she will eat for a lifetime. About two years ago, Cameroon was still been described as on of the most peaceful nations in Africa, but today the nation finds itself in a chaotic situation where brothers can no longer call themselves brothers likewise sisters can no longer call themselves sisters. How did we get here is the question every individual would have a personal answer to. But in all this what future lies ahead for those we call the future of tomorrow, that is, our children.

I recently had a sad discussion with a friend who is a medical practitioner. And he said in simple words, My friend, i fear for the future of our children, especially the girl child. I could not say much but i allowed him to continue. He said, with tears in his eyes, the amount of young girls aged between 16 - 18 visiting hospitals today for child abortions is becoming alarming. At the end of the day the question i kept asking myself was how can i change this then it dawned on me that: A child stays a child if he/she is dependent on the parent, but a child grows to a man/woman if he/she can provide for him/herself.

Transform the life of a child and you help to build a nation. At Unique we have chosen to take children off the streets by providing these young men and women with employ-ability skills. As such we do not only reduce the increasing rate of juvenile delinquent in our communities. By helping to transform the life of these youths through professional studies and impacting them with skills in areas such as Fashion and Design, Craftsmanship, Electronics and Computer Maintenance and Secretarial Duties, we do believe we can alter the future of some young men and women in the positive direction. By doing this we are certain to meet our goal of Teaching a Child to Fend positively.
