The International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict is observed annually on June 19.
The United Nations General Assembly declared June 19th as the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict in 2015. This day was created to draw attention to the devastating impact of sexual violence in conflict and to recognize the need for a comprehensive approach to prevent and respond to this form of violence.
The term “conflict-related sexual violence” refers to r**e, sexual slavery, forced prostitution, forced pregnancy, forced abortion, enforced sterilization, forced marriage and any other form of sexual violence of comparable gravity perpetrated against women, men, girls or boys that is directly or indirectly linked to a conflict. The term also encompasses trafficking in persons when committed in situations of conflict for the purpose of sexual violence or exploitation.
Year in and year out, the UN calls on all stakeholders to take action to prevent and respond to sexual violence in conflict. This includes working to end impunity for perpetrators, providing support for survivors, and ensuring that survivors have access to justice and reparations. Additionally, the UN has called on all countries to ensure that their laws and policies are in line with international standards and that all survivors of sexual violence in conflict are provided with access to medical, psychological, and legal support.
This day aims to bring attention to the issue of sexual violence in conflict and advocate for its elimination. Sexual violence is a weapon of war used to spread terror and fear among populations. It can also be used as a form of genocide or ethnic cleansing.
The International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict is a reminder of the atrocities happening in Africa. The situation in Africa is dire, with women and children being the most affected. It's time for the international community to take action and put an end to this heinous crime. It's unacceptable that innocent lives are being destroyed, and we must do everything in our power to stop it. It's time to stand up and say enough is enough. We must work together to ensure that sexual violence in conflict is eradicated once and for all.
On this day, it is important to acknowledge the ongoing conflict in Cameroon. The country has been facing a conflict since 2016, which has resulted in the displacement of over 700,000 people and left many vulnerable to sexual violence. It is crucial that the international community take action to address this issue and provide support to those affected.
By recognizing the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict, we can take a stand against this form of violence and work to create a world where all individuals are safe and free from sexual violence. It is essential to ensure that survivors of sexual violence in conflict receive the services, support, and protection they need to rebuild their lives.

The 4th of June is set aside by the UN to acknowledge the pain suffered by Children throughout the world who are victims of physical, mental and emotional abuse. The day affirms the UN’s commitment to protecting the Rights of Children. Children who are victims of physical, mental and emotional violence experience diverse developmental challenges. These challenges affects their ability to learn in order to become better versions of themselves and to contribute to the development of the society. In Cameroon, especially in the North West and South West regions, children have been victims of physical, mental and emotional violence as a result of the Anglophone Crisis. Some children have lost their lives as a result of this, cutting short the dreams and aspirations.

Just like October has been set aside to raise awareness on breast cancer, so has the month of March been set aside as 𝐤𝐢𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡
The bean-shaped organ, that makes up the urinary system of the body, located just below the rib cage on each side of the spine, plays a very vital role in waste removal from the body. Over the years, a lot of people have been limited to the main function of the kidney; that of removal of waste products and excess fluids from the body, in the form of urine. However, the kidney plays critical role in regulating the body’s salt, potassium and acid content. The production of blood of hormones that help regulate blood pressure is another major function of the kidney.
kidney disease also known as Nephrology simply means that your kidneys aren’t working properly while Chronic Kidney Disease(CKD) implies your kidney functions slowly and gets worse with time. It is often referred to as a silent disease because there are usually no symptoms during its early stages. Patients usually discover at the neck of time when the situation is beyond control. In fact, as many as 90% of Americans who have chronic kidney disease don’t know they have it until it is advanced.
This is why, the National Kidney month, observed every March, is set aside to raise awareness on the functions kidney as a whole and the health dangers Nephrology
World Kidney Day celebrated worldwide every 2nd Thursday of March, features amongst the series of awareness raising activities on the importance of the kidneys to our overall health.
The 2023 edition celebrated on March 9, had as theme “Kidney Health For All- Preparing for the unexpected and supporting the vulnerable”. This year’s theme, focused on recent natural disasters in the world and its impact on people living with kidney disease, and how these disasters hinders their access to diagnostics services, care and treatment.
First launched on March 9 2006, and fully inaugurated on March 8, 2007, articles have been published by researchers on relevant topics related to the subject matter. So much information at our disposal, to get updated about this silent killer yet, most of us neglect these pieces of information.
Statistics states that, kidney disease affects an estimated 37 million people in the US(15%of the adult population; more than 1 in 7 adults). Approximately 90% of these with kidney disease don’t know they have it. Kidney disease has thus stood out as one of the leading cause of death in the US.
The prevalence rate of CKD’s keeps increasing day in day out across the globe. As the month of March wraps off in the fourth night its important you visit a dialysis center and obtain tangible information about your kidney. Screening will do the magic as well.
October for pink, for breast cancer awareness, December for orange for the fight against Gender Based Violence and March for Green for Kidney disease awareness. Our kidneys are priceless; thus, early diagnosis of kidney conditions can save a life. Be aware, be alert, protect your kidney and yourself.

Education Stakeholders are usually faced with two main challenges following a period of security unrest.
-𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀.
- 𝗧𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗼 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹.
The latter is even more challenging. This is why we must pull financial resources and strategies together to make the learning environment conducive and safe for all actors and get students back to the classrooms.

School violence is widespread, it occurs in all countries and affects a significant number of children and adolescents. It is mostly perpetrated by peers but, in some cases, it is perpetrated by teachers and other school personnel. According to a United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) report of 2021, violence in educational settings is a daily reality that denies millions of children and young people the fundamental human right to education.
The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines school violence as youth violence that occurs on school property, on the way to or from school or during a school- sponsored event. A young person can be a victim, a perpetrator, or a witness of school violence. In some cases, the perpetrator (s) or victim (s) are adults within or from outside the school environment. Ideally, the school environment is a place of learning where everyone needs to feel safe as the safety and security of learners, teachers and school administrators directly influence learning outcomes. “Schools that are not safe or inclusive violate the right to education as enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNESCO).
In Cameroon, as the case with other African and European countries, school violence has been on a steady rise. Though there are no official available data on the number of cases in schools in Cameroon, credible news outlets have reported numerous incidents of violence in secondary schools across the national territory. Looking at the current state of affairs and the alarming rate of occurrence of these violent acts, the school environment has become a risk zone for all academic personnel; students, teachers, and administrative staff all inclusive.
A couple of factors can be raised as to why there has been a rise in school violence. It has been established by the United Nations that there exist a relationship between violence in the community and that of the school. Violence from society has gradually eaten deep into the school milieu. Based on this premise, it is safe to say that the current security challenges and socio-political unrest in Cameroon has negatively affected the mentality of children and has influenced the rise in school violence.
The physical and psychological consequences of violence can be devastating which can result in early death. In cases where the victim does not die, violence survivors have to cope with terrible physical and emotional scars for a considerable period of time. Violence places at risk not only the health and life of the victim, but also their ability to learn and grow into adults who can create sound families and communities. Learning disability as a result of exposure to violence cannot be over-looked since it significantly affects the entire objectives why governments invest huge sums of money in financing education.
School violence takes different forms;
𝐏𝐡𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐕𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 (𝐩𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐤𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠)
𝗕𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴
