Our Super Kids at SUPER KIDS International are not the brightest in the world, but the lessons I have learned from them since the commencement of this Academic year are profound and interesting.

I am able to learn from them because we have created a safe and friendly environment where they can freely express themselves and be their truest selves without fear of being judged or misconstrued.

They are free thinkers, and with the use of the Socratic method, we can easily birth their innate knowledge.

We don't undermine their capacity to think for themselves.

All these go a long way to boost their confidence, self-esteem, and creativity. They are not afraid of making mistakes at any.

Enshrined in our Motto(Fun, Creativity, and Excellence), are the three things we prioritise and invest in as a Learning Community.

In the course of this month of November, we are going to have an Open-Door Week whereby we give room for parents to come in school and interact with teachers and assess the child's holistic performance. Their findings will give them a road map for the collaborative followup of their kids in school and at home.

Our Kids are Amazing!
Our Kids are Super!

This is the Call!
This is the Mission!

WHERE CHILDREN DON'T WEAR UNIFORMS TO SCHOOL.

If you are a Parent in Bamenda, consider sowing 2 or 3 dresses as your child's school uniform.

Let him or her know that those are the only dresses he or she can and must wear to school.

These dresses plus sportswear can suffice for the academic year.

You must not go to the market and carry a whole box of dresses for your child to wear to school.

Get three (3) pairs of shoes for school. Among the 3 you should have a trainer for sports.

For a male child, you can sew two shirts and 2 pairs of shorts accompanied by 2 pullovers.

For a female child, sew two gowns or one Gown, and a shirt(blouse) and skirt. Add two pullovers and her sportswear and she is good to go.

Parents, JEAN TROUSERS, COLLANT, and CROP-TOPS should not be school wear for our children. They should wear these things at home.

You must ensure that these things are always clean and ironed. Inspect your children every morning before they leave the house.

You must be firm in ensuring that they wear only these stipulated dresses to school.

If we all do this, we will kill the unhealthy competition that is emerging in our schools in Bamenda.

..PENDING WHEN OUR CHILDREN WILL FREELY PRIDE THEMSELVES IN THEIR BEAUTIFUL UNIFORMS.

So, as a parent, what can you do to help your child with math? Now that weโ€™ve established the problem letโ€™s look at five solutions to deal with it.

*1. PRAISE THE EFFORT, NOT THE SMARTS*
Who doesnโ€™t like a pat on the back? Praising your child for their hard work and perseverance will help boost their confidence. But you need to commend them for doing and not being something.

Praising their natural intelligence and โ€œgeniusโ€ wonโ€™t have the same effect. A 2007 study revealed that students who get praise for being smart often fail to put in any effort on harder tests and give up easier than their peers.

*2. EFFECTS OF MATH ON EVERYDAY LIFE*
Math is everywhere! From running errands to following a recipe, your child will use math daily. Encouraging them to see the importance of math in the real world could help build their confidence and understanding of the subject.

Of course, all of this depends on the age. Explaining the statistics and equations involved in a stock market may be useful if you have an older child.

*3. PRACTICE WITH THE CHILD DAILY*
This may seem a no-brainer, but itโ€™s worth mentioning. Itโ€™s important to practice math with your child every day. As the developmental psychologist, and best-selling author, Rebecca Fraser-Thrill explains, parental involvement:

Nurtures academic achievements;
Helps develop social skills;
Increases self-esteem.
Thatโ€™s why you should always set aside a few daily hours to help your child practice math.

*4. ACKNOWLEDGE FAILURES*
No one likes failure, but itโ€™s an inevitable part of life and sometimes results in failing in school. The only way to help your child deal with it and succeed is by acknowledging their shortcomings and helping them learn how to use failure as an opportunity for growth.

Itโ€™s also important to remember that it takes time to learn any new skill. With patience and encouragement, your child will eventually master math.

*5. HIRE A PROFESSIONAL TO HELP*

If your child still has difficulty grasping the concepts, you can hire a professional to help with the basic lessons and homework. And you can find math help at levels.

As a matter of fact, some services can help with math homework, even if youโ€™re a college student. So no matter how old your child is, there are professional services that can help them deal with math.

*THE PROACTIVE APPROACH IS THE ONLY APPROACH*
So, what have we learned? Math is an essential part of life, and itโ€™s important that your child learn how to deal with it. The only way to do this is to be proactive and take the necessary steps to help them understand and develop their skills.

Praise their efforts, show them how math is used daily, practice with them, acknowledge their failures, and hire a professional to help if necessary.

This proactive approach is the only way to ensure your child succeeds and develops a strong understanding of math.

Urgent!

Itโ€™s easy to miss when your child is having difficulty with math. Itโ€™s always better and advisable to look for more specific signs.

Here are five indicators that your child has math problems:

*1. HIGH GRADES EXCEPT FOR MATH*
Letโ€™s start with the most obvious signs first. Logically, if your child has math problems, their score in the subject will be lower than average. But itโ€™s also likely that they will do well in other subjects.

So the next time your child brings home a report, check each subject thoroughly and talk to the teacher if you see any discrepancies.

*2. THEY TALK NEGATIVELY ABOUT IT*
Another obvious sign of math problems is when your child talks negatively about math. They may express frustration or disappointment every time the subject comes up.

Itโ€™s also common for children to make comments about how they โ€œhateโ€ a certain subject or will โ€œnever understand it.โ€

*3. HAVING DIFFICULTIES WITH TIME MANAGEMENT*
The average child has 6 hours of leisure time each day. If they have trouble planning time, adhering to schedules, or judging time increments, thereโ€™s a chance they canโ€™t comprehend complex math problems.

Now, this particular sign can be hard to spot because itโ€™s so subtle. But if your child is always taking longer than expected to complete homework, that could indicate something else.

*4. MENTAL MATH PROBLEMS*
Seeing your child count on their fingers may be fun at a really early age. However, if the habit continues into the upper elementary levels, it might be time for some intervention.

The ability to quickly calculate math equations in their head is a key element of success in the subject. If the child is looking at their hand and doing small finger moves as they count, it could mean their math skills need to be at the expected level.

*5. DIFFICULTY PAYING ATTENTION*
We live in the age of short attention spans. For years, scientists have claimed that golden fish now have longer spans than most humans. While we canโ€™t back that claim 100%, thereโ€™s no denying that many children have difficulty concentrating in school.

That said, if your child has trouble sitting still during math lessons or quickly loses interest in the topic, they may have difficulties understanding it.

In their earnest and ardent desire to see their children flourish and succeed, some parents tend to forget that the main tenet of education isnโ€™t about scoring the highest marks possible on a report card.

The root of education lies in empowering learners of all ages to find their purpose, creatively express themselves, learn problem-solving skills, question the world and reflect on hard truths.

While exams will likely always remain an important facet in education, our education system must slowly ease its emphasis on exams as the predominant mode of assessment, and eradicate problematic assumptions that a good test score indicates that a learner is set to succeed in life.

In SUPER KIDS International , we recognise the growing importance of nurturing learners with well-rounded skill-sets who can adapt to new challenges and thrive.

Through a skills-based and experiential learning approach where independent thinking is fostered within our classrooms, we aim to shape intellectual and inquisitive minds who are confident, civic-minded and capable of thinking outside the box.

*World Book and Copyright Day*

_*UNESCOโ€™s theme for 2023 - Indigenous Languages!*_

Last year saw the start of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages (2022-32) and itโ€™s a UN priority to uphold and promote linguistic diversity and multilingualism.

Indigenous and local languages feature as part of the World Book Capital Network Charter, and the Charter recognizes a less rigid concept of โ€˜the bookโ€™, i.e., acknowledging various forms of literature (including oral traditions).

For World Book and Copyright Day on 23 April, Indigenous Languages will be the message UNESCO will focus on.

Of the almost 7,000 existing languages โ€“ many of which are fast disappearing โ€“ the majority are spoken by indigenous peoples who represent the greater part of the worldโ€™s cultural diversity.

The UN does not put restrictions on who or which cultures can be termed indigenous, but many of you will be aware of indigenous communities either from your own country, residing there, or among those you have worked with abroad.

Many individuals and institutions run away from problems but SKI hunts for problems and provides solutions to them.

It is no longer news that the world is in an economic slum. This has caused untold suffering especially to the low income earners.

Prices of basic commodities have witnessed a dramatic and steady increase.

One of these basic commodities that have witnessed a steady hike in price is GROUNDNUT OIL/vegetable oil.

A liter of the ' precious liquid' cost 1000frs at the beginning of 2022 but as of now, the end of 2022, it costs 1700frs.

The Good News is that SUPER KIDS International (SKI)BILINGUAL NURSERY AND PRIMARY SCHOOL , which happens to be a pilot centre for creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship, came up with a simple technology that household could use to produce healthfriendly groundnut oil at home. This was done thanks to the technology club of SKI after months of research.

This technology was demonstrated during our Christmas party and closing ceremony for the first term. Everyone who saw it was amazed.

After producing the groundnut oil the waste product, which is the groundnut, paste is used in frying a common snack called Kurikuri. The paste can also be eaten with bread.

We will soon organise a workshop to train members of our community on this technology.

PROTECT KIDS.
Kids who are bullied can experience negative physical, social, emotional, academic, and mental health issues and are more likely to experience depression and anxiety.

They show increased feelings of sadness and loneliness, changes in sleep and eating patterns, and loss of interest in activities they used to enjoy which may persist into adulthood.
It has to be stopped!

We should not only teach children to count, but also what counts most!

We are losing a generation due to

Many young people worldwide are going through tough times, but they donโ€™t have platforms for self-expression, no supportive network, or people around them.

Bullying is a silent pandemic, and mental illness is underfunded and swept under the carpet by many families and cultures.

Thatโ€™s why our work is crucial to building ecosystems where children survive and thrive.

Join us at www.kids-voice on this Mastercard Foundation campaign. , , to make a difference.

Please write to me if you need help, or to start a conversation on engaging and collaborating. Itโ€™s urgent, itโ€™s important, and many young people need our help!

Dear Parents,

Your child must not be in the 'A' class. Children are placed in the A or B class depending on when they were admitted.

Putting your child in the A class doesn't make him or her more special or more important than children in the the other streams.

Some of you also think that the teachers in the A class are special teachers who are more qualified than the other teachers.

As someone who has been involved in the placement of teachers in the primary school, I will categorically tell you that teachers and children in the A class are NOT special.

It is simple. If you register your child earlier, he or she will be in the A class. But if you do so later, he or she will be in a different stream.

Banla.
