Sabbatical Blessings Family

Photos from Global Horizons Institute for Foreign languages.'s post 19/07/2020

Blessed Sunday, good morning to you all my noble family..
ACCEPT, UNDERSTAND AND EMBRACE THE PAIN!

Many people avoid pain be it in relationships or work and life in general. But, the ones that will SURVIVE and THRIVE in life are the ones that are going to accept, understand and embrace pain.

The ones that will avoid pain, will also avoid all the potential successes of life, for nothing is gained without it.

If pain is permanent then use it. If pain is the sign of life and of change then feel it and become more alive. Wake up early, even if it hurts, do that odd job, even if it hurts, give your heart to a lover one more time, even if the last one hurt so bad. The moment you realise that life is painful, is the moment you become invincible, the moment you become larger than life.

Pain is a sign that you're alive, so embrace it because pain is the only thing you will ever truly know.
Stay blessed

There is nothing to say that success will come to you at the very first attempt. Sometimes, you have to struggle for years before you can reach the place you aimed for. There will be multiple setbacks on the way, and if you give up every time you encounter a roadblock, it will be impossible to ever achieve anything. So, you must keep trying in order to make it in the end, and the taste of success will be even sweeter. This is perhaps the most important benefit of not giving up. Your goals may seem tough or almost impossible to reach, but you will never really know that unless you have tried. It is only by trying, and trying again, that you will finally understand whether the goal was achievable or not. If you give up without trying at all, or at the first hint of failure, you will always have the nagging thought at the back of your mind: ‘what if I tried?’ If you do try enough, and then finally step back, you will definitely know that this was not doable, or otherwise, because you gave it your best efforts. If you give up after your first failure, you will know what you did wrong, but you will never learn the right way to do things. Every time you make a mistake and fail to achieve your goal, you will know one more thing that should not be done. This way, by process of elimination alone, you will keep getting closer to your goal, and finally arrive at a foolproof way to get things done....
All the lessons learnt along the way, are benefits of my past mistakes and errors...
I learnt my lessons, some the easy way, some in advice, some in my friends and colleagues by how their situation turned after they acted in a certain manner... Some the hardway...
Kind regards..

Use of Wish

Let's start off with the easy part. ' I wish to' can mean the same as 'I want to' but it is much, much more formal and much, much less common.

I wish to make a complaint.I wish to see the manager.

You can also use 'wish' with a noun to 'offer good wishes'.

I wish you all the best in your new job.We wish you a merry Christmas.

Notice that when you want to offer good wishes using a verb, you must use 'hope ' and not 'wish'.

We wish you the best of luck.We hope you have the best of luck.I wish you a safe and pleasant journey.I hope you have a safe and pleasant journey.

However, the main use of 'wish' is to say that we would like things to be different from what they are, that we have regrets about the present situation.

I wish I was rich.He wishes he lived in Paris. They wish they'd chosen a different leader.

Remember English is key=🔑 to global connections..

Group discussion: Games
Games are fun and everybody enjoys fun, no?

But in all seriousness, talking about games gets discussion more geared towards past tense, which gives the students a fond sense of nostalgia. Some simple questions could be:

What is your favorite game ever?
What games did you play as a kid?
What games are popular/ from your country?
How competitive are you when it comes to games?
What games do you still play now? Why?

26/05/2020

Group discussion : "Learning".

Learning is like nature—it’s all around us, even on a subconscious level. Our brains are built to absorb, filter and store information. Discussion about learning could actually stimulate some English learning amongst the students! A few questions that are suitable are:

How important is learning? Why?

Besides English, what are you currently learning?

What things are you good/bad at learning? Why?

What would you most like to learn?

What is the most difficult part of learning? Why?

Improving Speaking Skills
First of all, it’s important to find native speakers to practice with. Students who are living around many English speakers may be able to find informal opportunities to chat with neighbors and local business people. Joining a club or a volunteer organization can be a great way to get to know people informally.

When practicing with a native speaker, try to balance your listening and speaking. It’s a good idea to prepare questions in advance so that the conversation will flow back and forth. If your conversation partner asks you a question and you answer at length, you can always turn the question back to your partner by asking, “What do you think?” or “What about you?”

Recording is a great way to get the maximum benefit from a conversation with a native speaker. When you listen again, you can evaluate your own pronunciation and notice areas where you need to improve. You can also review the content of the conversation, take notes on new vocabulary or misunderstandings, and prepare questions for the next meeting.

Another way to improve your English speaking skills is to immerse yourself in English as much as possible. Watch movies or TV in English, with subtitles if you need them, and watch the same programs over and over. Most people find that they understand more each time. Listening helps you become familiar with the rhythms and intonations of English. Once the sounds are familiar, try imitating them.

Listen to music in English and sing along. Music is one of the best tools for learning intonation pronunciation. Listening to and singing songs might also help you remember vocabulary and phrases (if the song is easy to understand), and it will help you learn to pronounce English rhythm in a more natural way. By unconsciously imitating the singer, you’ll learn to pronounce phrases the way native speakers do. One good song for ESL or EFL students is “Tom’s Diner” by Suzanne Vega because it uses simple language to describe everyday scenes and actions.

Movies are a much better choice for learning English. You’ll learn vocabulary, idioms, slang, pronunciation, and listening by watching movies. Be sure to use my movie technique when you do this!

Reading out loud is a great way to practice speaking when there are no conversation partners available. Reading aloud gives you a chance to focus on pronunciation and pacing without worrying about coming up with words. Make sure to practice with material that you can understand. Some students find videos online that have transcripts. Many TED talks, for example, include word-for word transcripts of the talk. By reading aloud from a transcript, you can check your pronunciation by listening to how the speaker says something.

Saying your thoughts out loud or narrating your actions (“I am drinking coffee, and now I’m going to open my book”) can be a very effective way to practice spoken English. By talking to yourself, you can become more fluent in translating your thoughts into spoken words. Practicing alone is also a low-pressure way to practice, since no one will hear your mistakes.
