👶 Babies 👶 need to be given the time and space to practise the movement patterns - on the front, back and sides of the body - and to be allowed to make the effort required to organise these patterns and go through all the developmental stages. 📖 Beyond the Sea Sq**rt 📖 Moira Dempsey 📖

The most exciting news about emotions and self-regulation comes from the burgeoning interoception research. A non-judgmental, curious, accepting tone helps children develop a friendliness to the range of human emotions. I share about how we can leverage interoceptive awareness in Brain-Body Parenting.

Baby and adult brains ‘sync up’ during play, finds Princeton Baby Lab It's not your imagination -- you and your baby really are on the same wavelength. A team of Princeton researchers has now measured baby and adult brain activity moving in sync as they play and interact together.
I am co-facilitating our Relationship-based Parenting course for Mitchell Woods Public School families in Guelph. If you know of any Mitchell Woods families who might be interested, please share .
I love sharing rhythmic movements with the families I work with !
I just wanted to share this beautiful testimonial from the website. As a modality is very gentle, and modelled carefully around observation of how babies naturally move. So, the movements are innate and natural. Its gentleness is what many nervous systems actually need to heal.

Children seek out the sensory input they need! It is up to us to provide opportunities for them to find these different sensations 🌿

From very early on in utero, the primitive reflex movements literally help develop the brain. The movements lay down the patterns of neural networks and myelinisation of pathways that allow the connection of the various areas of the brain that are so important later on for learning, behaviour, communication, relationships and emotional well being.
Play 🤸 Play 🤾♂️ Play
✨ Research has found that children who play have better memory abilities than those who do not.
✔️ The ability to play authentically, whether with or without adult observation, is equally important.
🌟 Play teaches important lessons such as cultural norms, what is and is not appropriate, our own limitations as individuals and how we should respond to a number of different situations.
💡 The development we gain through play activities is not something that can be replaced with televisions and smart devices, even when children use them for educational purposes.
- Moira Dempsey,
Another key reason why children need lots of unstructured free play.
Many teachers are stating that children are presenting with a weaker grasp when they go to Kindergarten.
In order to develop strong hand skills, children need to develop a strong "gross grasp." Children naturally challenge hand muscles through outdoor play experiences such as holding onto a rope swing, digging in the dirt for hours, and climbing trees. This resistance strengthens and prepares the hands for being able to later hold utensils such as a pencil and crayon correctly.

"Music lights up the whole brain. When you do a scan and isolate different skills, you can see that reading (for instance) lights up a certain small part of the brain … doing calculus lights up other tiny parts of the brain … when you start interacting with someone, far more parts of the brain are activated … but then you start singing, and the whole thing lights up!"

"The benefits of simplifying your child’s world are many. And it can make your life more fulfilling, too. "
When you simplify a child’s world, you make space for positive , and .
The benefits of simplifying your child’s world are many. And it can make your life more fulfilling, too. Children flourish when they have the time and space to explore their world without the constraints of “too much.” Kids are experiencing sensory overload with “too many trinkets, too many choices and too much information.” By approaching parenting using simplicity as a framework, parents may be able to significantly reduce a child’s daily , which can lead to happier, more successful children.
Children need time to become themselves–through play and social interaction. If you overwhelm a child with stuff– with choices and pseudochoices– before they are ready, they will only know one emotional gesture: More! As you decrease the quantity of your child’s toys and clutter, you increase their attention and their capacity for deep . Too much stuff leads to too little time and too little depth in the way kids see and explore their worlds.
Along the same lines, simplifying your family’s schedule can reduce the frantic feeling of always being on the go. Kids with a full plate of school work, extracurricular activities or sports each day may feel stressed and chaotic since they’re lacking the free time children need for creative play and exploration. And when you set effective screen time limits, you’ll keep your child distraction-free and help her learn to find joy in the present moment.
Rest nurtures creativity, which nurtures activity. Activity nurtures rest, which sustains creativity,m. Each draws from and contributes to the other. By simplifying, we can concentrate on what we really value, not just spend our days reacting to everything the world throws at us.

I am really looking forward to our information session tomorrow night about Circle of Security Parenting. See post below for more details on how to attend.
If you know of any parents who might be interested in learning more about Circle of Security Parenting , please share this information about our free information session on Wednesday August 25, 8pm.
This is the Zoom link to join us :https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86863152778?pwd=RlkrOWxrNk9qSnFvZWJ2azYwSWs5Zz09
Circle of Security Parenting is a relationship-based, parenting reflection program. It allows parents to learn the fundamentals of attachment and to view behaviours as a signal, to look at the need that lies behind a certain behaviour. It also helps parents come to recognize their own triggers and how those triggers may change their perception of what is really happening in situations with their children. Circle of Security Parenting are these things and so much more! Check out the comments for more information on how to join in on Zoom.
