Scaffolded Anti-Racist Resources 02/06/2020

Here’s a way to start working on the systemic racism that is pervasive in our world.

Scaffolded Anti-Racist Resources This is a working document for scaffolding anti-racism resources. The goal is to facilitate growth for white folks to become allies, and eventually accomplices for anti-racist work. All of these resources have been sourced from other Google docs, or articles -- we have simply reordered them in an...

Writing Contest Opportunity (Grades 2-12)

PVSD has introduced a writing contest for students in grades 2 to 12 in both English and French and welcomes them to share their voices. We are looking for stories of identity, growth, resiliency, overcoming or dealing with struggles, what they have learned so far and any positive messages they have about this time. The writing should be real, authentic, and deliver a strong message.

Students can participate as an extension of remote learning opportunities that are guided by their teacher or on their own with family support. Participation is of course voluntary.

Choice in Genre/Form:
Students will have different purposes in the “story” they choose to tell, so they are encouraged to choose the form that best supports the purpose of the piece.
• Poetry
o I Am From (templates, supports and mentor text materials accessible for teachers to use or share with families)
• Personal Narrative
• Article, information text, report

The writing opportunity will be open from May 4 to June 4. In an effort to support local business, entries submitted to the division will be eligible to receive gift cards from within our PVSD communities as well as the opportunity to be digitally published.

If you are interested in taking part and/or you have further questions about this contest, please contact Ms. McFarlane (BCS's Instructional Team Coach) at [email protected]
