Yesterday we partnered up with the Bimini Biological Field Station - Sharklab to teach local students about sharks. We spoke to all the grade 1-4 students at Bimini Primary School and Gateway Christian Academy Bimini Bahamas. The students had great questions and we had an amazing day. Thanks to both schools for welcoming us!
We had a great time teaming with the Bimini Biological Field Station - Sharklab for a JAWsome open day with grade 5 & 6 students from Bimini Primary School. Students learned about the research being done at the lab, local shark species and the importance of the various local ecosystems.

Thanks to the lab staff, volunteers, teachers and students for making this an amazing day of learning!

Thanks to Sophie Hart Photography for the images.
Yesterday founder Jillian Morris teamed with Bimini Biological Field Station - Sharklab outreach manager Chessie Mason for a day of shark education at Bimini Primary School. They did 6 presentations and spoke to over 130 students in grades 1-6. The students and teachers had great questions and lots of hands were raised when asked if they wanted to study sharks. These kids are the future of sharks in the Bahamas and education is critical. Thanks so much to Principal Collie and her staff and students for welcoming us!
Hello,
I am trying to contact the Head of School or director of admissions or marketing. If you can have them email me ([email protected]) at their earliest convenience I would greatly appreciate it.
Cheers!
Chris
Please consider this the formal announcement.

Those of us who are setting up and supporting the Family Tree Booth at Homecoming in April would like to announce a Bimini Family Tree award to one deserving child of Bimini.

What: Bimini Family Tree Award ($250 min, guaranteed)

Who: Any person of Bimini descent, under age 18

When: Winner will be announced on 15 Apr.

Where: Award will be given at Homecoming. Awardee MUST be present to win. (time to be announced/posted)

How:
-This Award celebrates the value of treasuring our collective history.
-To be eligible, nominees must submit a written essay of no more than 1000 words that explains, from their perspective, the value of knowing their own family tree. What is the benefit? How does it help them individually...and us collectively?
-The focus is on Genealogy, not the physical history of Bimini (colonization, government, landmarks, key dates, etc)
-Video submissions will not be accepted.
-Pictures and graphics may be added but only to amplify the actual written essay.
-Submit nominations to [email protected] in Word.Doc or .PDF (Adobe) format no later than 1 Apr 2017. Submissions received after 1 Apr will NOT be considered.

(Note: The base of this award will be drawn from the money raised at the Family Tree Booth from the sale of electronic family trees. The Award may be more than $250 but the minimum guaranteed amount will be $250)

It’s Almost Time For The End Of The School Year Exams! Is Your Student Getting the Most Out Of Their Study Time? To avoid test anxiety and to be confident students should be prepared and have the knowledge and skills they need.

Please Ensure That Your Child Gets The Proper Rest And A Decent Meal.

The night before the test:

1 .Make sure your student goes to bed on time and gets a good night sleep. There is research that shows that students who got at least nine hours of sleep for elementary school each night before testing scored 10% higher than those students who got less sleep. On average students had an increase of 8.5 points on their overall score.
2. Be positive and confident in the fact that you know your student will do their best.
3. Discuss a test that you have had to take in your life and how you approached it (driver’s license, teacher or professional exams, etc.). Life is full of tests, we all have them in and out of school.
4. Plan ahead to avoid conflicts on the morning of the test.

The morning of the test:

1. Get up a few minutes early to avoid rushing and make sure your student arrives to school on time.
2. Have your child eat a nutritious breakfast. There is a strong correlation between eating breakfast and memory and cognitive functioning.
3. Have your student dress comfortably.

After the test:

1. Talk to your child about how they feel they did on the test.
2. Discuss what was easy and what was hard: discuss strategies they used (taking a mental break, forming pictures in their mind of lessons, taking notes, etc.).
3. Remind them performance on one test does not define them, it is just an opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned and what they still need help with.

IF YOU FAIL TO PREPARE YOU PREPARE TO FAIL
