πŸ“– The book

"Beloved" by Toni Morrison

πŸ”ŽπŸ”
✍️ Beloved is a book that talks about the life of slavery. Most of its content reveals how black were treated like wild animals at the time during slavery. It exposes the life of the protagonist, how women were r***d forced to hard works and earn nothing at the end of the journey. Their lives were not valued; the protagonist is overwhelmed until she gets to the point of making a decision of killing her own daughter. She thought this would be the right and great decision to save her daughter from the actual situation.

πŸ–‡οΈ Here below are some selected opinions and suggestions of the students agreeing and disagreeing with The Protagonist's decision of killing her daughter.

〽️ The reasons why we should agree with Sethe's decision...

πŸ“Œ Motherhood affection. Like every parent especially a mother, she is a warrior, protector,a lover and partner. Sethe's decision comes to reveal the greatness of her affection that pushes her to cover and save her daughter from these harms and bad conditions. This lifestyle is really terrible and every other caring mother could react samely on that situation.

πŸ“Œ Saving her daughter from the current situation. The situation of being r***d,violated, harassed and all the other things they were forced to do in the sweet home hurted them and they had no one the stand for them and support them. For Sethe, killing this innocent girl was the only way she thought could prevent her from living all these conditions.

πŸ“Œ Mercy killing also known as Euthanasia. As we know, every mother desires the best for her children.sethe was willing not to ignore all the desperations that slaves encountered in the ironically called "sweet home" since it was not really sweet place for the slaves to be. She decided to better kill her daughter rather than taking her back to sweet home to suffer in the same field with her mother. Life of slavery hurts. The fact that Sethe had escaped can explain the way she wanted her daughter grow well and happily. She didn't want her daughter to go and experience the pain that even her mother had failed to bear and endure. After seeing that they were going to take them back to sweet home, she suggested not to expose her daughter to such pain and then she dicided to kill her. She that the sufferings in sweet home were more terrible than death.

〽️ Why we should not agree with Sethe's decision...

πŸ“Œ Knocking off someone's life is not the right option to get over challenges, but what should be done is look for a positive solution. Such decision shows no patience, perseverance, kindness, consistence and determination for the good his children. If she had a little spirit of the positive attitude, she couldn't have killed her own daughter rather than hiding her.

πŸ“Œ In daily life, we encounter many challenges, difficulties and different struggles, bad conditions but instead of escaping them. People needs to face them and learn positively from them to overcome the situation. For what happened to Sethe would be the source of encouragement to her and her family but also for every woman in the captivity; teach children to have a positive attitude and conscience for every challenge and believe that every hard beginning has a good ending.

πŸ“Œ Killing a person especially a teenager means killing the next generation. We never know who she would be; maybe she would be the one to help them get out of the captivity but her destiny, future, fate and vision was buried. It's really hard for Sethe to overcome this hardship alone.
