It is our right to fully embrace who we are without feeling inferior or needing to conform to masculine standards. We must declare self-acceptance and empowerment, taking pride in femininity and reject any notion that we should be ashamed or apologetic for it.
It is up to us to reject the societal expectation that women should downplay or apologize for aspects of their identity that are traditionally seen as feminine, such as sensitivity, emotionality, or nurturing qualities. These traits have often been undervalued or even stigmatized in a patriarchal society that typically prioritizes traits associated with masculinity, such as assertiveness and dominance.

As the new school year begins, we’re here to lift your spirits for a fresh start. Education is crucial for societal progress, and everyone, regardless of gender, deserves access to it. Denying education to anyone undermines the core of a nation’s growth and development. Educated women, in particular, offer unique perspectives and make invaluable contributions across many areas of society. 📚
Wind Down Friday 🌸 Don’t forget to rest 🔋 Rest is a radical act of self-defiance for Black women because it challenges the historical and ongoing expectation that they must endure relentless labor without respite. Rooted in the legacy of slavery and perpetuated by the “strong Black woman” stereotype, this expectation pressures Black women to prioritize others over their own well-being. By choosing to rest, they resist these oppressive narratives, reclaiming autonomy over their bodies and lives, and asserting their right to prioritize self-care and mental health.

Norfolk, Virginia — The family of Ashanti Billie, along with activist Michael J Muhammad, are proud to announce the rollout of the national Ashanti Alert program, marking a significant advancement in enhancing the safety of our communities. This release follows a groundbreaking vote by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on June 27, 2024, to establish a new Emergency Alert System (EAS) code specifically for “Missing and Endangered Persons” (MEP).
The Ashanti Billie Alert initiative lays the foundation for an integrated approach to tackling the national crisis of missing minorities, ensuring effective communication during emergencies. We congratulate and we are grateful for for this historic launch in empowering communities to find missing persons.
