Het Keerpunt
✨ In 2010 stond mijn leven op z’n kop. Een relatie die eindigde en een burn-out die volgde. 🥀 Ik had mezelf jarenlang weggecijferd, knopen niet durven doorhakken, en bleef vastzitten in een relatie die niet meer voor mij werkte.

Dit was mijn keerpunt. Ik besloot alles om te gooien: een nieuwe baan, een nieuw appartement en later zelfs een nieuwe liefde. Maar het echte avontuur begon toen 2 jaar later die relatie ook eindigde. Ik hakte de knoop door en emigreerde in 2013 naar Aruba, een eiland waar ik nog nooit was geweest en niemand kende. Wat een sprong in het diepe! ⬇️

Die beslissing bleek de beste ooit te zijn. Aruba heeft mijn leven compleet veranderd, op een manier die ik nooit had verwacht! 🌴

When I was in grade 6, my parents sent me to a typewriting course. 🤓 It was one of the most important skills I’ve ever learned in my life 🙏🏼

A skill that has saved me plenty of times during my school AND professional career. ⏰

This Monday we start with Techno Toppers. A Summercamp during which we don’t just practice typing, we also look at other important computer skills that will make the life of your child much easier 💪🏼☀️

A lot of kids, even those in higher grades of Mavo and Havo, struggle with making a presentation, a paper or a report. 💻

They don’t know how to to use the right tools, how to add a photo or video in a presentation, or how automatically add page numbers to their reports. 📈

After this camp, your child will be skilled in all these actions and they will know exactly how to approach their different tasks, saving them lots of time in their future endeavours! ⏰

Besides that, we will show them how to use Social Media in a safe and respectful way.

Inmiddels is het bijna 11 jaar geleden dat ik (voor 3 jaar 😅🙈) naar Aruba emigreerde. Na 7 jaar in het onderwijs hier te hebben gewerkt, besloot ik 4 jaar geleden dat het tijd was voor opnieuw een nieuwe stap: voor mezelf beginnen. 🇦🇼

In mijn werk als leerkracht zag ik dat de kwaliteit van bijlessen niet voldeed aan de vraag van de leerlingen. Dit kwam vooral door de lessen die in grote groepen plaatsvonden, met studenten of leerlingen als begeleiders.

♥️ Ik voelde dat dit anders kon. Met mijn bedrijf You GOT It wilde ik leerlingen écht helpen, en daarnaast wilde ik me ook veel meer richten op het verbeteren van het zelfvertrouwen van kinderen. Leren kan óók heel leuk zijn en die ervaringen wilde ik hen bieden. Binnen een veilige omgeving zetten vele kinderen flinke stappen in hun ontwikkeling.

Naast het verbeteren van vaardigheden op het gebied van Nederlands, rekenen en vakken zoals aardrijkskunde, was er voor mij nóg een belangrijke reden om You GOT It op te richten: Door kwalitatieve bijlessen te organiseren, kunnen we onder andere het hoge uitvalpercentage van Caribische studenten die later in Nederland gaan studeren, verminderen.

In de afgelopen 4 jaar heb ik samen met mijn team honderden kinderen mogen helpen in hun groei van kennis en zelfvertrouwen.

Sinds een aantal maanden knaagt er echter iets.
Ondanks dat ik leerkracht ben kan ik me niet meer vinden in de manier waarop het hedendaagse onderwijssysteem is ingericht. Ik vind het niet meer van deze tijd, en denk dat veel kinderen veel meer leren buiten het klaslokaal.
Maar met mijn bedrijf help ik kinderen juist te passen in dit systeem. Dit zorgde voor een innerlijk conflict.

Ik besef dat het systeem voor veel kinderen wél werkt. Ik sta dan ook nog steeds achter het bedrijf, alleen zie ik mezelf niet meer werkzaam binnen You GOT It. Daarom heb ik besloten dat het tijd is om You GOT It te verkopen. 🏫

Many children did not follow English classes in grades 5 and 6 because there was no teacher available. To ensure that they start secondary school with a good basic, we are literally going to hit the road in the first week of the summer holidays (July 15-19)!

Each day we visit a different location for five days, where the children receive lessons in grammar, spelling, reading, listening and speaking skills. They will immediately put these new skills into practice, so they do not have to spend more time in a classroom, but will actually be actively engaged and immersed in the language under the guidance of an experienced English teacher!

We work with groups with a maximum of 6 children, so spots are limited!

Knowing how to use a computer is no longer a handy skill, but of vital importance! Even though our children spend many hours online, there seems to be a lack of knowledge on how to put together a report or a presentation.

Schools require students to be able to use Google Drive, but many children have no idea how to use these programs.

During the Techno Toppers Summer Camp children will learn how to write texts in Google Docs, create presentations in Google Slides and create documents in Google Sheets.

In addition, Social Media is playing an increasingly important role in the lives of children of this age. That can be fun, but it can also go wrong.
On the third day of this training we pay attention to the fun aspects and the dangers of social media and WhatsApp. What should you pay attention to, what can you post or not, how do you deal with all those different apps?

Techno Toppers is for students in class 5- 6 of primary school, and class 1 and 2 secondary education. We have a maximum of 8 students per group.

This year we will organize another You GOT It Summer Camp: learning in small groups in a fun and relaxed way, without using intensive methods. Consider, for example, moving learning, treasure hunts, races, games, etc.

The camp will be in Dutch, so your child will improve speaking Dutch a lot!
