"What do you want to be when you grow up?" It's an age old question, and at their recent Careers Day our Year 10 students chose from a range of engaging sessions run by presenters representing a wide variety of industries and educational institutions to consider their vast options. They had the opportunity to hear from a panel of our alumni students offering their advice and experiences, before attending the VCE and Pathways Expo along with parents and other senior school students to explore VCE Subject Offerings and pathway options, with many inspired about their future choices.

Cafe Culture! Just one of the wide variety of subjects on offer in the Year 9 and 10 elective program at PVCC.

Students were involved in all steps of planning, surveying their audience, creating a menu, shopping, pricing, preparing food, preparing a café space, cooking and serving. What a joy it was to see these students working hard in all aspects of their learning in this experience and what a success it was!

Congratulations to all involved and thank you to all who came and enjoyed a hot drink or a yummy treat!

We couldn't be prouder of our three presentation teams at the Christian Education National - CEN Young Christian Thinkers Symposium.

These teams have been pondering the question 'In light of the gospel, how should we live?'.

Our teams had a clear focus on 'faith in action', outlining ways we can make a measurable difference in the world for the disadvantaged (just like Christ). More than just coming up with ideas, they had plans to put into action this year.

It's a huge joy to see the next generation of Plenty Valley students geared up to 'transform the world, local and global'.

Whilst in Canberra, our Principal John Metcalfe enjoyed the opportunity to chat with Rob Mitchell MP - Federal Labor Member for McEwen this week, saying "It was wonderful to have our local member take the time to meet me and be introduced to other principals from Christian Schools during the Christian Schools National policy forum and to hear about the contribution that Christian schools make to the young people of Australia."

I was very pleased to welcome Plenty Valley Christian College Principal John Metcalfe to Parliament House this week and hear first hand about the work of the Christian Schools National Policy Forum.

Music is a gift of God, we rejoice in the opportunity to sing His praise!🎼

Our Secondary Music Recital was a beautiful night showcasing the talent, hard work and dedication our students and music staff and tutors.

We are eager to attend the next event!

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness" 2 Timothy 3:16

In 1968, Plenty Valley Christian College began as an idea planted in the head of one of the original founders, and with encouragement, hard work and a lot of faith, on 3 February 1981, the school opened its doors.

We walk in the footsteps of those founders who put Christ at the centre of everything they did.

As PVCC has grown and we have been blessed abundantly, our focus is to remain wholeheartedly a Christ centred college. Which is why we are so excited to give every Year 3 and Year 7 student a Bible each year so they can unearth the treasure in the living word and grow in faith.

How do you engage a cohort of primary students with a range of different interests and skills? A cross-disciplinary approach was the right answer last week, when the entire PVCC Primary School participated in our Annual Maker Day!

The clever integration of Science, Technology, Engineering, along with Creative Expression, Art, and Media was the perfect mix to engage each of our Primaries. The buzz of excitement flowed throughout the whole college as students were excited to learn and put their engineering and creative skills to the test.

One highlight for many was a visit from Professor Bunsen sharing the amazing wonders of our perfectly created world. We are so thankful for the dedicated staff who work tirelessly to deliver these special programs to our students.

There is a saying, "In an age where we were taught to avoid talking about religion and politics, we have raised a generation of people who no longer know how to discuss religion and politics" - anon.

At PVCC, we love to encourage critical thinking. Students are encouraged and expected to participate actively in discussion, to debate and to reason well, examining what brings clarity of thought and how, from a biblical perspective, we can respond to challenging debates.

The Secondary English program is rigorously working through these skills, as well as many others, in preparation not just for upcoming exams but for life!

Yesterday was a beautiful representation of love for this country. The highest form of love is sacrifice. To those men and women who loved this country so much they were willing to die for it, and who sacrificed everything for their families, and fellow countrymen, we will forever be grateful for their service. We pray God's blessing on this country.

24/04/2024

"Lest we forget.

Thank you to all the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve our wonderful country. Let us live each day with gratitude in our hearts for all the courageous people that have given us a free nation.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."

Equipping students with the knowledge and skills to succeed in both their studies and assessments is a priority for us. As part of this focus, last week our Year 9, 10 and 11 students took part in a relevant Study Skills workshop which focused on a variety of practical tools from improving their note taking skills to developing clarity in their critical thinking and so much more. These workshops encourage students to Learn Courageously and as a result develop the confidence needed to excel in their studies.

Our student led Relay for Life fundraiser last Friday night was a wonderful gathering of our community for a very worthy cause, raising funds for the Cancer Council Victoria.
In perfect weather conditions, students, families and teachers relayed around the oval, enjoying delicious food, fun games, live music, head shaving, face painting, animal nursery and more.
When the sun went down, there was a commemorative time for reflection on the impact of cancer on loved ones.
Well done to our Secondary Senate leaders on an outstanding job organising and running this whole college event!

As our first term of 2024 begins to come to an end, we reflect on those newbies to school; our Preppies. At Plenty Valley Christian College the Preps have Wednesdays off every week for the first term. This gradual start approach allows a day of rest, midweek, for the littlies and time for the Prep teachers to do some special home visits. These home visits allow the teachers to get to know the students; find out their likes and dislikes, meet the family pets, and likewise it is great for the students to see their teachers outside of their classroom.

Thank you to all the Prep families that opened their homes to these special visits. We look forward to doing it all again next year!

One of our favourite annual traditions here at PVCC is sitting down and 'breaking bread' with the new families to our college. The New Parents Dinner has been running for more than ten years and brings such a blessing to all who attend, staff included. We love being able to get to know those new to our college and sharing a bit more about who we are and what we value as a Christian College.

Thank you to everydayfood3095 for the incredibly delicious catering!

Last week we officially opened our Walkways Project, which has provided beautiful, covered spaces, walkways and gardens through our Secondary area. Although we've been enjoying using these much-improved spaces in our college for a while now, it was wonderful to join with founders, special guests, past and present board, company members, staff and students to celebrate and reflect on the legacy of God's grace and provision at PVCC, as well as give thanks for our stunning natural environment.

A massive thank you to Rob Mitchell MP - Federal Labor Member for McEwen for being a part of our service.

How fun are school camps? Some of our best school memories are at camp. We highly value these opportunities here at PVCC. We love the emphasis on building connections and pushing kids out of their comfort zones in a fun environment.

"The Camp Coolamatong staff were very helpful and good to be around in activities. The food was very good and the morning and afternoon tea was delicious. The activities were so fun. I loved Kayaking and Sailing but all the activities were all equally run and were wonderfully guided by the staff." - Liam Yr 7

Massive thanks to Camp Coolamatong for having us!

Yesterday we had the honour of celebrating our Dux and High Achievers from the Class of 2023 with a special assembly and presentation, followed by a lunch. These moments, where we stop and look back at all that has been accomplished, are inspirational to those going through the process now. At PVCC, we celebrate striving for excellence, and we are so thankful for the hard work and determination put in by these students, and their families supporting them along the way.
