At Natural Maths we have always promoted student watching and noticing to gather formative information about what students do know and can do prior to beginning a unit of work.
So, we've developed new resources, the Starting Points series, which takes a topic, (place value and fractions to start with) and provides resources for teachers to use to identify what strengths and deep understandings or lack thereof students are bringing to the topic. - https://mailchi.mp/1f1907543100/new-teaching-resources-starting-points-knowing-what-to-notice-what-to-record-and-what-to-do-about-it-15925891

During a recent classroom visit, Ann saw something that she really needed to share. It was a student using the POWER UP posters that had been threaded onto a keyring to help find her way through an activity. Back home, out came Ann's sketch book and soon she had created the cartoon below. Want more? Visit https://naturalmaths.com.au/blog/power-up-blog/

One of our most popular publications, Place Value to 1000 000, has just undergone a facelift. We have had our Traffic Lights app rewritten in a form that we hope will work for years to come AND the mental routines, problematized situations and games have been upgraded. Ann has also been combing through the Natural Maths picture books collection and had listed those with a place value theme; in particular, she has made A Million Dots the subject of her latest blog. More at https://naturalmaths.com.au/blog/place-value-picture-books/ . Hope you have a great break ... and looking forward to a busy time next term!😉😉
