😊👋 We were happily surprised to see a few familiar faces we haven't seen in a while at Defence Kids Club this week! It was great to reconnect and share some fun moments together. 🎉 Looking forward to more smiles and good times ahead! 🌟

A simple and effective way to get involved with your children and their lives online is through discussion. By maintaining an open dialogue with your child and encouraging them to talk to you about their internet use parents can help children access the amazing resources the internet has to offer whilst keeping them safe online.

Conversation starter ideas:
1️⃣ Ask your children to tell you about the sites they like to visit and what they enjoy doing online.
2️⃣ Ask them about how they stay safe online. What tips do they have for you, and where did they learn them? What is OK and not OK to share?
3️⃣ Ask them if they know where to go for help, where to find the safety advice, privacy settings and how to report or block on the services they use.
4️⃣ Encourage them to help. Perhaps they can show you how to do something better online or they might have a friend who would benefit from their help and support.
5️⃣ Think about how you use the internet as a family. What could you do to get more out of the internet together and further enjoy your lives online?

🎼 Congratulations to our St. Anthony's String Ensemble 2, who performed in the Year 6 and Under Mixed Ensemble Section at the Townsville Eisteddfod! 🎻 While we didn't place, our students performed with confidence and showcased their excellent sense of rhythm, which was noted by the adjudicator. 👏 Well done, String Ensemble 2! 🌟🎶

👨‍👧‍👦🍳 Our Father's Day breakfast last week was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate and affirm the important role fathers play in our lives. 💙 It was wonderful to see so many dads enjoying not only great food but also quality time with their children. 😊 We hope all fathers felt truly cherished and appreciated on their special day. 🌟💖

🎉🎻 Congratulations to our St. Anthony's Catholic College String Ensemble 1, who placed 2nd 🥈 in the Year 6 and Under Mixed Ensembles Section at the Townsville Eisteddfod! 🎶 Our students performed their song 'Pickpocket' to an appreciative audience, with the adjudicator commenting on how impressed he was with our ensemble work. 👏 Well done, String Ensemble 1! 🌟🎶

🎉🎸 Congratulations to the St. Anthony’s Guitar Ensemble, who performed at the Townsville Eisteddfod on Tuesday night! 🎶 While our ensemble didn’t place, they performed exceptionally well in a highly competitive section, missing out by only 4 points. 🌟 The adjudicator loved our performance and gave a special mention for how much they enjoyed our rendition of "Savage Love." 🎵👏 Fantastic effort! 🎶🎸

🎉🎶 Congratulations to our St. Anthony's Catholic College Assisi String Ensemble, which placed third 🥉 in the Townsville Eisteddfod String Orchestra Section on Tuesday night! 🎻👏 Our students performed a challenging piece to a very high standard and should be extremely proud of their achievement. 🌟🎶

It’s never too early to sow the seeds of personal safety and children can begin learning about keeping safe as young as three. As parents, we need to teach our children five basic principles (which form the basis of our personal safety education program for young children, Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure).

These principles are:

- To trust their feelings and to distinguish between ‘yes’ and ‘no’ feelings
- To say ‘no’ to adults if they feel unsafe and unsure
- That they own their own bodies
- That nothing is so yucky that they can’t tell someone about it
- That if they feel unsafe or unsure to run and tell someone they trust.

This message captures the essence of National Child Protection Week which aims to promote a safe and supported life for every child, now and into the future. In 2024, the message that ‘Every child in every community needs a fair go’ will be complemented with the theme ‘Every conversation matters’. 🫶

Recently, our students participated in a Cultural Art Workshop with Ricky Emmerton. They had a wonderful time exploring various cultural painting techniques and creating their own unique masterpieces. We are so proud of the amazing pieces they created and the cultural connections they made during this enriching experience.

Last Thursday our Year 12 First Nations Students attended the Blak Excellence Luncheon and Graduation Liturgy. They got to enjoy meeting presenters like Stan Grant and Thomas Mayo and a range of other local mentors before heading to Sacred Heart Cathedral for their graduation ceremony. A huge congratulations to our 2024 seniors.

Last week, some of our Year 11 and 12 students proudly presented Brighter Lives Townsville Hospital Foundation with a cheque from the funds raised during their incredible 24 Hour Rowing Challenge. We are immensely proud of their dedication and hard work in supporting this wonderful charity. Their efforts truly embody the spirit of giving back and making a positive impact in our community. Well done!! 🌟
