The Institute for Australia India Engagement's Goodwill Ambassador to India and Board member Matthew Hayden AM was felicitated by India's Honorary Consul Archana Singh in Brisbane, on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Matthew Hayden received a personal letter of appreciation from PM Modi for his role in building bilateral ties, friendship with India and the Indian people and Indian diaspora in Australia, and standing with India in tough times. Matthew Hayden remains connected with Sadguru and Isha Foundation and calls Tamil Nadu his spiritual home. He has played for the Chennai Super Kings IPL Franchise, and nowadays commentates in the tournament.

Annual General Meeting of the Institute for Australia India Engagement was convened on 29 November to take stock of our accomplishments, hits and misses of 2021. The members of the board were very pleased to note IAIE's outstanding policy engagement impact, productivity in policy dialogues, public outreach and events, media interactions, publications, and ability to shape strategic thinking, despite a tough Covid dominated year.

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY: India’s stellar leadership in yoga is now recognised globally, since the United Nations announced 21 June as the International Yoga day, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 27 September 2014 speech in the UN General Assembly. India’s proposal received the support and co-sponsorship of 177 nations which is a record itself.

Images of mass yoga events from Asia, Americas, Europe, Africa and Australia make headlines every year and Australia can benefit from India’s excellence in yoga.

This year International Yoga Day is an occasion to illuminate the importance of yoga in promoting a healthy way life under the shadow of Covid-19. Institute for Australia India Engagement is privileged to partner with the Indian High Commission, Fight4Balance and Art of Living to host it in Brisbane on 21 June.

An extremely productive meeting in which a range of engagement, commercialisation, research and policy dialogue strategies were discussed. The Board was proud and delighted to note the progress IAIE has made since its launch in Sept 2018.
