Be equipped in Non-Profit Governance.

There is an obvious need for leaders to be aware of the various legal frameworks that they work under and to know how to work with boards, government and other stakeholders to achieve their goals. Financial, risk and employment matters are of particular interest to Christian leaders as we seek to both honour God and be good stewards of the resources entrusted to us.

Footsteps pound the pavement as the sun beats down, this race seems to be going on for an eternity. With each stride the once abundant energy seems to slip further away, like those who pull ahead in pursuit of their goal.

But the race is not against everyone else, but against every hard-won step that led to this point. Suddenly, out of the blur of the crowd a hand offers what is sorely needed. Grasping out in hope, the sudden burst of refreshing water chases away thoughts of defeat and renews the will to tackle the next leg of the journey.

The road may be long, a marathon rather than a sprint. Being a Christian does not magically transport us to finish line. However, we do have a mighty God that renews and sustains us in the journey.

“but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

Are you thirsty and in need of renewal? Reach out to the one who can satisfy and sustain you.

Pastors carry a heavy burden of responsibility. They are expected to provide guidance, support, and spiritual leadership to their congregations. However, they also need support and guidance themselves.

A Professional Supervisor can provide a safe space for practitioners to reflect on work, explore feelings, and gain new insights. They can help to identify blind spots, challenge our assumptions, and develop new skills. They can also offer support and encouragement when we face difficult situations.

A gentle summer breeze blows, bringing the scents of cut grass and jasmine. The view tilts gently as the wind rocks the hammock, encouraging the tug of sleep at the edge of consciousness. In this moment, all is well. Regardless of what may lay beyond, a sense of peace cradles you.

While this circumstance may be idealistic or the rare, the call to rest is not. What if instead of playing the ‘one day’ waiting game for that elusive perfect rest, we instead reach out every day to rest in Jesus.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)

How can you rest in Jesus today?

We value Spiritual Formation!

Spiritual formation is integral to all we do. We do not merely teach a class on formation; we facilitate deeply transformational, holistic, face-to-face learning experiences. Spiritual formation is threaded through our entire curriculum to ensure that graduates bring strength, courage, wisdom and integrity to their future endeavours.

Over the next few weeks our students will be starting a yearlong journey in their spiritual formation groups with their retreats. Lead by a trained Formation Director, these groups will join together as a community to share, encourage and grow.

Learn more about Christology.

Christology (literally, the study of Christ) is the word given to the theological investigation into what it means to affirm that Jesus of Nazareth is, in fact, the Christ. In this unit we will begin such a study, looking at two aspects of Christology – firstly, the person of Christ and then what it is that Christ does (his works).

Designed to provide students with an understanding of the
person and saving work of Jesus Christ, this unit seeks to explore this understanding in the light of contemporary Christian thought and life.

This unit is on offer in Trimester 1 with an online facilitation. Learn as a student, or audit for personal or professional development. See more on our website https://acom.edu.au/current-students/schedules/

Where is your space to breathe?

Paddling, the waves crash. Over and over, the subtle push and pulls drawing energy reserves. A large wave approaches, and with drawn breath we retreat into the depths below for safety. But this is not where we are meant to stay.

This start of a new year, the push and pull of the busyness can buffet us. Family events fill our calendars, and even ‘doing’ church ministry seems to be a high priority.

In this time, it is easy to hold our breath and simply push through. To sit below the surface in our bubble of safety, gazing up at the light of ‘one day’ having space to breathe.

Remember that although circumstances may be outside of our control, that we are connected to someone who calmed the waves merely by speaking. Draw close to him, release your breath, and rest in him each day.

A Retrospect

1940’s

Woolwich Bible College was established in 1942 at a time of national emergency. With nine initial students, the College aimed at shoring up the supply of conservative and evangelical ministers to churches. Named Woolwich Bible College after its picturesque harbourside location, the College and its successors have amply filled that primary function. Alexander Main, the first Principal, inaugurated the College, and Harold Patterson brought stability and progress. Both were evangelistic in outlook, and the outstanding new initiative of the decade was the Woolwich Evangelistic Party under the guidance of Ernest Hinrichsen. This program of practical hands-on evangelism had a significant long-term effect on the College.

1950’s

The 1950s saw the beginning of the principalship of Arthur Stephenson. He painted on a broader canvas than his predecessors; he began to move the College into the mainstream of theological education, endeavouring to set theological work within both a fully ecumenical and fully academic context. A feature of this period was the number of tent missions conducted throughout Australia by the Woolwich Evangelistic Party. The decade also saw the death of Ernest Hinrichsen and the er****on of the Hinrichsen Memorial Chapel. Student numbers began to increase significantly in the 1950s.
