“Studying with ACOM provided me with a unique and incredible academic experience! ACOM worked with me to deliver a course that benefited and enriched my role in ministry, and that was of great benefit as it meant that I was actively able to apply the material that I had been studying. What stood out for me though while studying with ACOM was how seamlessly spiritual formation was integrated with academic learning. Instead of studying material and writing assessments that had little to do with the complexities of life in ministry, many of the units that I studied were tailored in such a way that I was engaging with God, my heart, and others which led to a deep transformation in my own character and relationship with God. I would highly recommend ACOM to anyone who desires more in their life with God!”

"After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped Him. Then they opened their treasures and presented Him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh”.
- Matthew 2:9-12 (NIV)

“Admittedly, at first, I was nervous about the prospect of Spiritual Formation and what might be involved. But after my first Spiritual Formation retreat, Spiritual Formation very quickly became one of my favourite subjects and created some of my fondest memories throughout my years studying with ACOM. The relationships I built and the journey I went on with my formation companions, has left a profound impact on my faith, the shaping of who I am, how I lead and my continued involvement in ministry today. I couldn’t recommend Spiritual Formation highly enough as a valuable part of your studies.”

Photos from ACOM - the Australian College of Ministries's post 03/11/2024

"In many cases, you'll find the only thing preventing you from learning is your ego.

No one enjoys feeling foolish, but attempting something new requires that you climb down from your perch and struggle as a beginner. You must ask questions that reveal your ignorance or attempt skills that make you look uncoordinated.

Learning demands the willingness to live in a brief state of discomfort. You must believe that looking like a fool for an hour will not ruin your reputation for life."
- James Clear, Author of 'Atomic Habits'

A Retrospect

1940’s

Woolwich Bible College was established in 1942 at a time of national emergency. With nine initial students, the College aimed at shoring up the supply of conservative and evangelical ministers to churches. Named Woolwich Bible College after its picturesque harbourside location, the College and its successors have amply filled that primary function. Alexander Main, the first Principal, inaugurated the College, and Harold Patterson brought stability and progress. Both were evangelistic in outlook, and the outstanding new initiative of the decade was the Woolwich Evangelistic Party under the guidance of Ernest Hinrichsen. This program of practical hands-on evangelism had a significant long-term effect on the College.

1950’s

The 1950s saw the beginning of the principalship of Arthur Stephenson. He painted on a broader canvas than his predecessors; he began to move the College into the mainstream of theological education, endeavouring to set theological work within both a fully ecumenical and fully academic context. A feature of this period was the number of tent missions conducted throughout Australia by the Woolwich Evangelistic Party. The decade also saw the death of Ernest Hinrichsen and the er****on of the Hinrichsen Memorial Chapel. Student numbers began to increase significantly in the 1950s.
