Crows Nest Kids Nest had an encounter with our very own Barney Bear recently, who dropped by with a few of the Bears players and staff. They were there to help build the new cubby house, accessorised with a new table and chair setting and a new play kitchen, which were recently provided through the generosity of NORTHS Collective and clubGRANTS.
Lina and her staff provided lunch and some moral support, and the boys managed to get through the build without any swearing. The kids were very excited to see the finished product and hopefully they will enjoy their new play equipment for years to come.
Hope you enjoy this little video!

Merry Christmas from Australia. Every day this week, we took our children for a trip around the world to try different Christmas foods from different countries. Today we are eating fresh, cooked prawns with mango and mayo dip, fresh garden salad and cool, iced water with a slice of orange. Our desert, an Aussie favourite... Pavlova.

Today's delicious dinner was prepared and served by Miss Sandra. Lovely!

Miss Social asked for a group picnic today for afternoon tea. I really adore that we can allow such flexibility where children can take full charge of their environment. They set the table, they served themselves, they came up with the idea. @ Kidsnest Occasional Child Care Centre

LEGO MASTER in the house! Today our new LEGO bricks arrived and Miss 4 yrs got cracking, following the suggested building instructions.
LEGO arrived today! eat your heart out, our preschoolers are getting to creating today.

One of our teaching pedagogies are scaffolding the children's learning through their own interests and passions. One of our preschoolers birthday party inspired a passion for learning all things dinosaurs. Our lovely Miss S set up this awesome small Jurassic world this morning!

We can not wait to get the jelly in our belly! Masters E and L got the bright idea to work on this food prep and just check out that sugar-free bright lime jelly injected with strawberry and orange bites. Delicious, thanks boys!

Amazing time today with the preschoolers. A spontaneous numeracy class where I tried to incorporate as many early primary techniques as possible. Counting by rote, writing numbers, number recognition, name recognition, spacial awareness on paper, pattern awareness, following instructions, small projects. What concentration!

Delicious Pizza's made completely by our kids today. They all got their own batch with only four ingredients needed to make it simple. Well done Miss M and C and Master V and L!
"I'm still standing, yeah, yeah, yeah!" Our toddlers had a blast today during our very spontaneous dance class. Learning how to dance with a partner!

Master V invented his own game today, placing "park here" spots for his cars. I scaffolding his learning by encouraging him to count as he placed a car onto each spot. He created his own learning and even tried to ensure that each car length was matched to the block length. A great mathematical learning experience. @ Kidsnest Occasional Child Care Centre

I LOVE using the books that kids are favouring at the time to teach them new concepts. Today during art class we got to practice recognising shapes, numbers and learning how to follow instructions all because of Masters E, L and V's love of book by

Sunshine on a cloudy day makes us so happy!
Throughout this water filled day, we have been checking in with each other. How are you? Need help? I'm here for you!
Taking advantage of our lovely spring weather by utiliaing our donated kitchen outside. We popped it in the sand pit and by simply adding some cupcake holders and shells, we had a master chef cook-off!

We won't tell a lie; it's imagination central today at the sand pit. We are loving this beautiful spring day. Please stay this way forever!

Using 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' stacking boxes for sorting experiences. How very creative! A good fine-motor experiences that can be extended into mathematics by then counting each colour group and graphing it.

Welcome to our self-help station where children can learn to take care of themselves. From putting their own sunscreen on, to hats and jackets and blowing their noses to keep germs away. Let help our little ones help themselves! :)
Our Child Care is a non-for-profit, community managed child care that would not be able to even exist if it wasn't for the continual support from our lovely parent committee. They give their own time, efforts and support to make their child's centre the best place it can be!

For the month of 'love' we have been talking about the important things/people in our lives that we love x
Miss V had a cooking session today with the children and sparked great conversations about ways we can love our bodies by making healthy food choices.

Kidsnest is starting their "LOVE" theme. Here, we will talk about things we love to do and the most important people in our lives. If you have any books that suit this theme, please feel free to bring them in for group time.

The Kidsnest Story so Far...
The little, friendly child care on the corner. We are well known in the Crows Nest community and the community depends on us. From the little coffee shop across the road, to the community centre to the printing shop, we all support each other like one little Crows Nest family.
We pride ourselves on our ability to meet all of our families individual needs. From financial needs to respite support, we want to ensure that you have peace of mind when leaving your child in our capable care. All our educators are qualified and we have over 15 years experience in childcare amongst us three.
We are licensed for 15 children at any given time and in the one room, we cater for children aged 6 weeks to 5 years old. This creates a homely, family-based feel, where children learn how to interact with children at various ages and not only with their peers. Like children do with their siblings and cousins at home.
With my preschool and long day care experience, I can see what a benefit it is having such a nice, small group of children. We can meet all the childrenโs needs in a realistic and meaningful way -- not rushed or forced. As a Director, I desire to see all the children develop a love of learning and an ability to interact with others in a way that will only strengthen their emotional and social development. With these fundamental cornerstones in place, children will be able to build whatever they desire or need with confidence!
