Did you know, there's no evidence to suggest that bonding begins at birth?

In the past, researchers thought that time spent with a newborn was sure to seal the bond between parent & baby.

However, we now know that parent-baby bonding is extremely complicated and that there are many reasons why relationships might take time to grow and develop.

Bonding can happen in many ways and at many different times. For many parents, the first smile is when they fall in love with their baby for the first time. For others, strong affection develops when they find out what makes their baby feel happy and secure. Some parents feel closer to their baby once a regular sleeping pattern is established. Sometimes, the depth of love and feeling grows when the baby becomes more amenable, sociable or mobile. Like any relationship, emotional ties take time to grow and develop. Research suggests that parents separated from their babies soon after the birth or who adopt babies much later, can still develop enormously close, loving relationships.

Babies loved our Nod Nod Friendship puppet show this week, and look at their amazing head control pushing themselves up to see the puppets! 💪🏻

There are lots of benefits to puppet shows and it’s definitely something you can try at home with a fun song playing while you make toys play hide and seek with your baby.
Have a look at some of the benefits below-

🙈 Babies learn that objects do not disappear just because they are out of sight (object permanence).

🙉 New songs introduce to sounds and words.

🙈 Fun interactions make babies smile which releases tension and frustration.

🙉 Watching puppets appear and disappear develops concentration and a sense of anticipation.

Baby Sensory was the first and original baby programme to offer a complete approach to learning and sensory development from birth to 13 months. Designed to stimulate, educate and provide precious memories during the all-important first year of life, Baby Sensory has won multiple awards both nationally and internationally since 2008.

We're proud to say that Baby Sensory is backed by over 35 years of research in childhood learning and development. That's why we always explain what we're doing so you can make your baby's first year a truly precious time of learning and sensory exploration.

What makes Baby Sensory unique is that every activity has been carefully designed to stimulate your baby's senses and move development and learning forwards. And behind every Baby Sensory session, there's an incredibly detailed lesson plan backing up everything your baby touches, sees, hears, smells and feels!

If you have any questions, add them below in the comments or feel free to send us a message. We look forward to welcoming you in to a class soon!

Worried about taking your baby to a class because you think they'll sleep through it all?

It really doesn't matter!

Research investigating the brain waves of sleeping infants found that regions associated with sound, motor, visual, and auditory processing still buzzed with activity during sleep.

What's more, researchers at the University of Turku in Finland also found that babies learned language while sleeping. This is because the cerebral cortex continues to function during awake and asleep states in the first year of life!

So whether your baby is awake or asleep for a class (or half and half) they'll still reap the benefits.

Say hello to Kathryn 👋🏻

As term is starting tomorrow, it’s time to introduce myself!

☀️My name is Kathryn and I am the owner and class leader at Baby Sensory St George.

🌙I am originally from Manchester in the UK I have over 20 years of experience in working with young children and babies. Before Baby Sensory I worked in early years intervention. When I had my daughter Alice, we attended Baby Sensory classes for a whole year and we loved them!

🌽After emigrating to Sydney with my family in 2017 I became a Baby Sensory class leader in the Sutherland Shire. I fell in love with my job, watching babies grow and develop is the real magic of Baby Sensory for me! I knew very early on that I would eventually own my area.

⭐️I started running Baby Sensory St George in April 2021 and it’s become my 2nd baby. Growing my business while seeing parents make lovely friendships and how much the program has an impact on babies development is incredible!

🌧Likes- swimming, visiting museums, Derry Girls and playing Taco, Cat, Goat, Cheese, Pizza (if you havent played it yet I highly recommend 😉)

🌸Dislikes- saying goodbye to our graduating babies, it’s very bittersweet 😭

👭So that’s enough about me, I look forward to seeing you all next week and learning more about you! 💛

Want to join us? Head to our website-

Term 4 starts this Monday 🥳🥳

I can’t wait to Say Hello👋🏻 to all of you next week!

Wondering what to do while it’s raining this weekend? Why not have a listen to our signature song Say Hello to the Sun? If you are new to Baby Sensory becoming familiar with a song that we sing and sign to every week could help your baby settle into class ☺️

You can find it on Spotify and YouTube

Have fun! 💛

Unsure how to bond with your baby?

Don't worry, you're not alone. Bonding is a complex, personal experience and not everyone will bond with their baby at the same time.

The following can help you to feel closer to your baby, so why not have a go at a few of these?

1. Baby massage - this sensory delight can strengthen your bond because it provides an opportunity for you to express your love and will help your baby feel relaxed.

2. Skin to skin contact - this is really beneficial for bonding for both parents, so try to carve out some time for this when you can.

3. Making eye contact with your baby - this is a vital means of communication, which in turn develops a two-way relationship.

4. Movement & music - dancing with your baby is a lovely way to feel closer to your baby and your baby will love the movement and calming melodies.

5. Singing to your baby - a way of speaking to your baby which they will really enjoy.

6. Cuddling up and reading a book - no matter how young your baby is, this is a lovely activity and is an easy way to have a conversation with your baby if that's something you're struggling with.

If you feel ready to get out and about, our Baby Sensory classes are also great for having one-to-one time to bond with your baby, without any distractions at home.

Free Flow Play is an important part of our classes. There are no set rules of guidelines. It’s a time for the babies to play at their own pace and have a choice in what they do.

There are also benefits for our parents too! Slide through the photos to check out just a few of the benefits.

This is one of our most commonly asked questions, and the answer is simple!

Your baby is never too young to start. Our classes are specially designed for babies from birth.

They are broken down into age groups, this allows our youngest babies to enjoy a slower paced class with very age specific developmental information.

Term 4 will be our last for 2022, it’s the perfect opportunity to spend quality one on one time with your baby, strengthening your precious bond and taking them on a wonderful learning adventure!

For more information please contact Kathryn on - 0435182864

Did you know that at Baby Sensory friendship and connection is very important to us? Not just for our babies but for you as well!

For new parents building new friendships can be very important.
Finding someone who you can relate to, who is experiencing the same highs and lows of parenthood can make those particularly hard days a little bit easier.

During our classes we offer lovely opportunities to make new connections.

💛 Our classes are grouped into different ages, this means that you are more likely to be with parents of babies around the same age.

💚 Break time in our Exploratory Play Area provides the perfect opportunity to have a chat and get to know each other while babies enjoy free play time.

💛 Our Sensory area is designed so we can all see each other. This helps to initiate natural introductions especially when we want to comment on how cute and clever the baby sitting next to us is!

💚 We are an extremely welcoming community and pride ourselves on our open and friendly approach. I am always happy to facilitate introductions to other parents.

Have you made a lasting friendship at Baby Sensory? If so tag them below and show them some love ❤️
