Mother's Day Afternoon tea at Rainbow Hut Early Learning Centre, prestons. We all had fun!!
Mothers and fathers are usually the most central people in children’s lives, and Mother’s Day is a fantastic opportunity to recognise, celebrate and appreciate the things that mothers do and the people they are.
Community is really important to us, here at Rainbow Hut Early Learning Centre, and getting people together as often as we can is one of our favourite ways to connect. We celebrated Mother’s Day with a special afternoon tea. Children and Mum's really had fun!
We are thrilled to say that we had a fantastic turnout for this event, which is wonderful for a number of reasons. Having time to spend with your child in a structured environment, particularly outside of the home is hugely beneficial, as well as being able to watch your child interacting with their peers, educators and other parents. It’s also a great opportunity for our parents to feel part of the Rainbow Hut community and build connections with other families.

Samhain marked the end of summer. People at the time were frightened of evil spirits. They would dress up in costumes and make noise in the streets in order to make the spirits go away.
Social and emotional skill development:
When a child joins other children in trick or treating during Halloween, that child actively experiments with emotional and social roles. This helps in the development of feelings and building self-esteem.

Local Fire Brigade visits Raibow Hut on Incursion
Today we invited our local Fire Brigade to come visit the Centre, to support the children's understanding of fire safety and prevention.
The children learnt about the tools and resources on the Fire truck and were shown the different sized hoses the firefighters use, and were given a demonstration on how to use them.
During the incursion, we were taught that each seat in a fire truck has a particular job. One is the driver/operator, one is the navigator who decides on the best route to the scene and provides updates, and the others are part of the attack crew, who are at the forefront of the danger and fight the fires.
The fire brigade then explained all of the different buttons and switches on the truck that help determine how much water to use.
We also had fireman Steve shows us how he puts on his gear before going to a house fire. The children were amazed, as Steve’s demo put into perspective just how heavy their clothing is.
Our lucky last encounter was being able to hold the fire hose as the water came out. The firemen were really accommodating and listened intently to the children’s exciting squeals of delight and comments, which was wonderful.
We are excited to follow up on the incursion with the children and continue our discussions around making safe choices and knowing what to do if we need help in an emergency situation.
