This week our preschoolers went to Ashbury Public School in our local community. This excursion plays a vital role in ensuring a smoother and more confident transition for preschoolers embarking on their educational journey. It provides young children with a glimps of what to expect in a school environment, making the upcoming transition less intimidating. We had fun exploring classrooms, meeting teachers, visiting their amazing community garden filled with fresh produce and observing the chickens. We walked through the playground and toured the iconic library. We also enjoyed the amazing smells coming from the canteen.
We would like to say thank you to Ashbury Public School and Mrs Morris for showing us their amazing school.

Canterbury Community Child Care Centre have incorporated a soccer program - "Yianni Football Academy" for Term 4. This is a fantastic way to introduce young children to the world of sports and physical activity. This program is designed with the utmost consideration for the developmental needs of our children aged 3 to 5. With child friendly equipment and age apropriate drills, pre schoolers can develop their motor skills and coordination in an enjoyable and supportive environment. Moreover, this program instills valuable life lessons such as team work, discipline, and sportsmanship from an early age, helping children build a strong foundation for a lifelong love of soccer and an active lifestyle.

This term at preschool has been an incredibly busy and exciting time for the children. We have explored a wide range of topics and engaged in various activities that have not only expanded our knowledge but also nurtured our creativity and social skills.
Feelings played a significant role in our small group experiences this term. We dedicated several sessions to understanding and expressing our emotions. Through art, role-playing, and storytelling, we learned about different feelings such as happiness, sadness, anger, and excitement. It was heartwarming to see the children grow more comfortable with sharing their emotions and supporting one another.
Mother's Day was a beautiful celebration that brought joy and gratitude to our preschool. The children worked on crafting thoughtful gifts for their mothers. We also had a special breakfast for all mums and grandmothers.
Recycling and taking care of the environment were important topics we explored during this term. We learned about the importance of recycling and reducing waste. The children actively participated in sorting recyclable materials and created art using recycled materials. It was inspiring to witness their enthusiasm in taking responsibility for our planet's well-being. We also had an incursion “Patti the Pig” to support recycling.
Reconciliation Week was another significant event that we celebrated. We discussed the importance of respect, understanding, and inclusion of Indigenous cultures and histories. We read Dreamtime stories, created Aboriginal art, and learned about the traditional owners of our land. It was an opportunity for the children to develop a sense of empathy and appreciation for the First Nations people.
Our community walk was a fantastic experience that allowed us to connect with our local community. We explored our local neighbourhood. Some groups posted letters to their families, while others had a baby chino at our local cafe “First Street Cafe” and other groups went to Peace Park to enjoy their fundamental movements.
A highlight of the term was the visit from the local fire department. The children had the chance to meet real-life heroes and learn about fire safety. They fire fighters role played emergency procedures ‘STOP, COVER, DROP AND ROLL’ and ‘GET DOWN LOW AND GO, GO, GO’ We all were very excited to take a photo in front of the fire engine.
Dress Ups, Pirates and volcanoes sparked the children's imagination and curiosity. Through storytelling and hands-on activities, we embarked on thrilling adventures, sailing the high seas and exploring erupting volcanoes. The children created their own treasure maps, while building volcanoes in the sand pit and watching them erupt. Their creativity and enthusiasm knew no bounds during these themed activities.
As the term comes to an end, we reflect on the incredible journey we have had. The children have grown in various ways, expanding their knowledge, expressing their emotions, and embracing the world around them. It has been a term filled with joy, learning, and unforgettable experiences. We look forward to the adventures that await us in the next term.

During our ocean project, the children showed an interest in turtles and turtle eggs. This inspired an educator to bring her turtle "Star" to pre school to show the children.
This was an opportunity for children to discuss the life cycle by engaging in a hands on activity as they drew turtle eggs, hatchlings, turtle feet and turtles swimming in water.
The children also had a opportunity to touch "Star" and watch him walk across the table.

On the 12th of May home corner was set up into a Italian Pizza Restaurant. Due to an interest with our preschoolers. The educator extended children’s interest by setting up home corner as an Italian Pizza Shop.

We made our own delicious pizzas to enjoy, by using four, water and yeast. We rolled our dough and added sauce and cheese for our topping. We baked them in the oven for 20 minutes and we got to enjoy eating them for afternoon tea.

By providing a sething for role play, the home corner allows children to make sense of their immediate world. Children have numerous opportunities to work together, express their feelings, and use language to communicate roles and respond to one another’s needs and requests.
