If you are a Chef considering migrating to Australia, the following information may be helpful. In the recent invitation rounds, many Chefs have been invited for Permanent Residency. There are several visa options available for chefs who wish to migrate to Australia:
Skilled Independent Visa (subclass 189) - This visa is for skilled workers who are not sponsored by an employer, state or territory, or a family member. Chefs can apply for this visa if they meet the eligibility criteria and have the required skills and experience.
Skilled Nominated Visa (subclass 190) - This visa is for skilled workers who are nominated by a state or territory government. Chefs can apply for this visa if they are on the relevant occupation list and meet the eligibility criteria.
Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa (subclass 491) - This visa is for skilled workers who want to live and work in regional Australia. Chefs can apply for this visa if they meet the eligibility criteria and are sponsored by a state or territory government or eligible family member.
Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (subclass 482) - This visa allows employers to sponsor skilled workers to work in Australia for up to four years. Chefs can apply for this visa if they have a job offer from an Australian employer and meet the relevant eligibility criteria.
Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) - This visa allows employers to sponsor skilled workers for permanent residency in Australia. Chefs can apply for this visa if they have a job offer from an Australian employer and meet the relevant eligibility criteria.

NSW are now accepting applications for the Skilled Work Regional visa (subclass 491) Pathway 1 and Pathway 3.
We are pleased to announce the opening of the Skilled Work Regional visa (subclass 491) - Pathway 1 and Pathway 3 for the 2024-25 program year.
Below is a summary of the key updates:
Subclass 491 Visa Pathway 1 - Work in Regional NSW
All occupations that are eligible for the Skilled Work Regional visa (subclass 491) can apply under Pathway
1.To apply under this pathway, you must be currently working in your nominated (or closely related) occupation in a designated regional area of NSW and have continuously done so for the past six months with a single employer based in regional NSW.
You must also be paid the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold salary rate from your qualifying employer in your nominated (or closely related) occupation at the time of application.
We removed the requirement to live-in-NSW for Pathway 1, providing greater flexibility for applicants living in border towns.
Detailed eligibility criteria for Pathway 1 is available on our website. Please review these to ensure you meet the requirements before applying.
2. Subclass 491 Visa Pathway 3 – Regional NSW Graduate:
To apply under this pathway, you must have completed a bachelor's degree or above from an education institution located in a designated regional area of NSW.
Your qualifying study in regional NSW must be eligible to claim points for study in Regional Australia as per the Points table for Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491).
Your qualifying study must be related to your nominated (or closely related) occupation and have been completed within the 2 years immediately before applying for NSW nomination. Please visit our website for a full list of eligibility requirements for Pathway 3.

The NSW Skilled Visa Nomination Program for 2024-25 has officially opened, featuring new updates aimed at simplifying the process and expanding opportunities for skilled migrants. Key changes include:

▶Skills Lists:
Skills lists for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) and the Skilled Work Regional visa (subclass 491) have been published at the ANZSCO unit group level. Confirm eligibility before pursuing a skills assessment.
▶Invitation Rounds (Subclass 190):
Regular invitation rounds will soon begin for the subclass 190 visa. Ensure your SkillSelect EOI is up-to-date with valid evidence.
▶491 Visa Pathways:
Pathway 1 and Pathway 3 for the subclass 491 visa will open soon.

NSW now aligns with Home Affairs’ definition of skilled employment, simplifying eligibility for EOI submissions.
