Generally speaking, most Vic primary schools expect kids to know
2,3,4,5,11,10 by the end of grade 3
By the end of grade 4 they should know all times tables up to 12
Working with grade 6 - year 9 students in Maths this is always a downfall that holds them back so much.
Do your kids a favour and help them memorise them any way you can! 26/12/2016

HOLIDAY HOT TIP #2: If you have a road trip coming up there are so many games you can play with number plates!

Every person gets designated a colour car. Every time you see one
- Think of an animal/place/food starting with the first letter
- Add up all the numbers and keep a running tally (this plate would score 1+2+3=6)
- Create a sum so that the first 2 numbers equal the last (e.g. 1+2=3)

This week marks the end of the school year and what a year it's been! We have been welcomed into the homes of so many beautiful families and had the honour of working with amazing kids who have made us proud each and every week! Unlike the kids in this video, we are so very thankful for the opportunity to work with you all. Merry Christmas everybody!

It's well known by teachers that kids generally regress over the Summer holidays. We spend part of first term trying to catch them back up again. So with holidays fast approaching and homework dropping down the to-do list, we are here to help with a few easy tips to ensure you're child doesn't lose what they've worked so hard learning over 2016.

You don't need levelled readers, questioning techniques and all the rest. Just enjoy the time together. Read to them, let them read to you and read together. Picture books, chapter books, magazine, it doesn't matter. Just read.

Not all of this is true. I personally love getting candles for Christmas! But I am sharing this for the very last paragraph - no truer words have been spoken.
There have been many gifts that haven't lasted in my house but I have kept EVERY SINGLE thank you card from parents. Hands down my most treasured gifts have been heart felt cards with positive feedback from the year that was.

Keep reading for some great ideas on what they DO want! 06/11/2016

Cross Your T's: Copyblogger edition - Is This Really My Life

We've been working quite hard with our senior primary students to get their spelling reading for year 7 expectations. Here are some words that your child should be confident with going into secondary school. Thanks to this infographic I found on Pinterest, I can sum up about 15 Cross Your T’s posts into one. Copyblogger’s “15 Grammer Goofs That Make You Look Silly” is a must-have reference for all writers, especially those whose grammar skills may be questionable. I say print this out and post it next t...

GeoGuessr - Let's explore the world!

For parents of kids in grade 3 and up, here is a great online game for kids to learn geography!! Over 5 rounds, kids look at 5 different images sourced from 'Google street view.' They must then guess where in the world the image is from and locate it on the world map. The closer they guess, the more points they score. We have tested this one with 11-12 year olds and they LOVE it! GeoGuessr is a geography game which takes you on a journey around the world and challenges your ability to recognize your surroundings.

They're recalling Smiggle drink bottles. Pass it on.

How Glue Sponges Saved My Sanity - KTeacherTiff

If your little ones love rip and stick type activities but you just can't handle the mess that comes with glue, then you NEED to read this. It's a life changer! I am definitely trying this. I teach K-4 and hate glue sticks and bottle glue. I'm forever picking up tops and wiping glue. Thank You! 08/07/2016

Tutoring relieves math anxiety, changes fear circuits in children

This study found that one-on-one tutoring of children suffering from anxiety towards maths was able to dissolve their worries and nerves. We tutor many children in Maths and several are simply due to anxiety and confidence rather than low academic performance. Anxiety about doing math problems can be relieved with a one-on-one math tutoring program, according to a new study. The study showed that tutoring fixed abnormal responses in the brain's fear circuits.
