Another colourful day for our 3-year-old Kindergarten children, Today we explored Primary and Secondary colours by experimenting with Mosaic Art

Children used a combination of playdoh and transparent colour tiles to create intricate designs, all the while defining primary colours and how these colours create secondary colours

The experience was designed to encourage children's imagination, creativity, expression and problem solving skills, whilst also introducing them to concepts such as estimation, symmetry, patterns, measurement and counting.

Our 3 years olds had a lot of fun learning and creating!

Belonging somewhere, whether it be to a family, friendship group or community is a fundamental component of Early Childhood Learning and Development. It makes us feel wanted, loved, welcome, happy, safe and secure.

Providing, safe, supporting environments for children and families is an important part of what we do at Giraffe.

One of the ways that we achieve this is by setting up educational environments for children to discover, engage and learn from.

From January to April 20201 our Indoor garden will be home to
our Cultural Program - Around the world in 80 days.

Inspired by our multicultural children, families and educators, we have designed a range of play based experiences and activities for children to discover, celebrate and respect the similarities and differences we have between us.

If you want to know more about what else we can provide for you and your children feel free to contact the Centre and speak with one of our lovely staff for further details

Sharing a Shell

Good Afternoon All,

We hope you enjoy this story Sharing a Shell read by our wonderful educator Nia.

Have a wonderful Afternoon

During the Stage 4 Restriction period we have been working on our Science week activities for when the children return the to the Centre later in September

With the use of mainly recyclable materials and creativity our 'Deep Blue" program will provide children with a variety of play based learning experiences that will encourage exploration and engagement in science, maths, technology, literacy, imaginative, creative and social play.

Some of our experiments will explore environmental impacts on marine life such as oil spills, erosion and rubbish pollution whilst other engage children in the exploration of marine life.

Most importantly our environment is designed to promote curiosity , spark wonder and embed love and respect for our oceans.

We cant wait for you all to experience the magic of the Deep Blue. We have certainly had an incredible time creating it.

Talking to our children about masks

We celebrated Early Childhood Educators' Day on Wednesday 4th of September – this day recognises and celebrates the work of Australia's educators in early learning services for their wonderful contribution to the well being and healthy development of the young children in their care.

Our team celebrated with a morning tea, little pressies and love!

A huge shout out to all of our incredible families that took the time to write such kind, encouraging and thoughtful hearts of recognition for our team of educators.

To all our wonderful families out there - Next week on Thursday 22nd of August we will be having a dress up day for Book Week!
This years theme - Reading is my Superpower!

Cant wait to see everyone in their dress ups!

The Educators in the Pre-School room have designed an experience where the children have been able to experiment with tessellations (an arrangement of shapes closely fitted together in a repeated pattern without gaps or overlapping.)

With this project the children have had to follow a three step process – plan, design and construct.
We are so proud of how your children worked collaboratively to create such a wonderful piece of artwork.

We would like to invite all of you to colour and create your own individual tessellated lizard at home or at the Centre for us to add to our artwork.

There are just a few things that we ask:
Please use pencil - as this is the medium that the Pre-School Children are using
Ensure that your name is written on the back
All family members young and old are welcome to participate
Have FUN!!!!!

Copies of the tessellated lizards can be found at the entrance of the Centre or you can ask one of our friendly educators for a copy

We invited all of our wonderful mothers into the service today to enjoy a light morning tea and engage in some experiences with their children. (shout out to all the fathers that came along today also, it was great to have you here)

Giraffe really understands, respects and appreciates the special bond between mother and child. You are your child's protector, teacher, friend and parent..

We are so lucky to have been able to provide our wonderful mothers with the opportunity to make necklaces, decorate photo frames and cupcakes, play with play dough or to just spend some time reading a story or two.

We wish all of our mothers and the mothers in our wider community a restful, loving Mothers Day on Sunday.

A huge thanks to all of the Educators at Giraffe ELC Docklands for organising this event! You are AMAZING!

Lest We Forget.

The educators and children at Giraffe Early Learning Centre Docklands paid respect to the fallen service men and women by creating their own honor wall.

Lots of conversations and experiences this week have been centered around ANZAC traditions.

A huge thank you to Angus (Tori's Husband) for taking our wreath to the Dawn Service held at the East Malvern RSL.

Our educators strive to provide warm and welcoming early learning environments that provoke your child's curiosity, engagement and builds the foundations of love for learning.

Our Indoor Garden can be used in a variety of ways. Currently we have been using this space to scaffold some of the learning themes stemming from some of our rooms.

Welcome back from a safe and restful Easter weekend everyone!

Last week the children and educators at Giraffe ELC Docklands participated in a PJ day to raise money for the Good Friday Appeal.

The final tally has been counted and we have managed to raise $218.65 to contribute to this amazing cause.

Thank you to all our children, families and educators who participated and donated!

A special mention needs to be made to one of our wonderful educators - All your hard work and enthusiasm paid off Maha! Thank you for organising this event for us

Happy Easter to all our wonderful Children and Families.

The children and educators have been busy over the past couple of weeks with different Easter related crafts. From egg baskets, egg ornaments, bunny ears and take home carrot shaped play-doh it has been a fun filled week of Easter activities

Friendly reminder that we will be closed for all the Public Holidays!

See you all next week :)

The Toddler 3 children had some questions about ducks hatching out of eggs after reading "The Ugly Duckling".
This was used as an opportunity to introduce life cycles to the children and to further their knowledge and interest.

The children have learnt about chickens, caterpillars and even seeds growing.

One of our favourite group-time stories is She’ll Be Coming Round The Mountain. We love to sing along and play musical instruments, and we all shout “YEEHA!” at the end. The children have listened to yodelling and practised yodelling down the mountain as they come, and after the yodelling they decided that dressing up as cowboys was vital next time we sang the song. A discussion about what else cowboys had, apart from cowboy hats, led to children remarking that they have a fire and tents. And so, our campsite was born. A tent to relax in, a fire to warm our hands by and logs to sit on provide the perfect backdrop for yodelling and other cowboy-related activities. The children helped to set up the campsite area, deciding how it should look and what should be included, and have been instrumental in adding other elements to their learning – a discussion about fire safety and an art activity where they made marshmallows on sticks to toast in the pretend fire were both initiated by the children.

The District - Harbourtown have displayed some of our children's artwork. it looks fantastic. Pop down to have a look. They are downstairs near Typo, Cotton On Kids and Ollie's place.

We have introduced the children to yoga.
Yoga promotes wellness, mindfulness and co-ordination.
We play relaxing music, and read some of our yoga stories to assist children in movement and relaxation.
The children are showing lots of interest in this experience and are initiating play here themselves either individually, with peers or with the educators.
Some of the rooms are using Yoga in their rest and relaxation times.

We are implementing the Premiers Reading Challenge at our centre. Our educators have displayed their favourite books, on the display near our sunscreen station as you come into the centre.

The Preschool children made some pizza for afternoon tea after reading the story "Dont forget the cheese Pa".
Lisa showed the children how to cut the mushrooms, pineapple and capsicum with the kiddikutter knives. (These knives are safe for children and won’t cut skin their skin).
The Preschool children helped to spread the tomato paste and put the vegetables on their pizza.
The children all enjoyed helping to prepare their afternoon tea, but the best bit was eating it!

The Toddler 3 children made some chocolate truffles for their afternoon tea last week.
The children helped to crush the biscuits, measure the ingredients and mix them all together.
We use "Feed Australia" to check our menus to ensure that we provide the children with nutritionally balanced meals, and we discuss nutrition with the children.
As the children made the truffles, educators discussed with children about "sometimes foods" and how it was important to have fruits and vegetables aswell as treats.
The children enjoyed their truffles for afternoon with vegetable sticks and fruit.

We have started a movement program in the centre.
Chelsea, one of our educators, has a passion for sport and teaching it to children, and is overseeing this program that will focus on promoting movemement across all ages and ranges if development.
This program has started in the Pre School room, and will also be introduced to other age groups in the coming weeks.

"It rained on Anne,
It rained on Fran,
It rained on Arabella,
It didnt rain on ...(childs name),
They had a huge umbrella!

Our first delivery of items donated by our families to St Kilda Mums. A big thanks to our families.

St Kilda Mums

Social workers in regional Victoria often find it difficult to access safe, clean cots, prams and car seats for the disadvantaged families they are working with. Our aim is to reach every baby in every town in Victoria who needs our help 💙

We added a basketball ring to our indoor garden and the Preschool children were excited to try it out!
You could see the children concentrating and trying different angles, positions and throwing styles to get the ball into the hoop.
The smiles of success on the childrens faces when the ball went in was wonderful to see.

Here are a few pictures of our Mother’s Day breakfast. We worked hard, the food was delicious and everyone had a great time.

We have been making mothers day gifts for our families. We set a challenge that they had to involve recycled object.

We are creating a partnership with St Kilda Mums. We have started a drop off point at our centre. Some of our wonderful familes have already started to donate items.

Our Children have been learning about Anzac Day. We looked at Kymberley's grandparents' medals. We made a wreath which Kymberley took to the ANZAC day march. We also baked some ANZAC cookies.

We always like to celebrate at Giraffe Docklands. Here is the table set up in our toddler room ready to celebrate the birthday of one of our children. A big thanks to Kymberley's mum for making the table cloths.

some of our kinder children have been bringing their teddy bears to Giraffe. We have been singing songs about teddy bears and reading books about teddy bears picnics. Lisa our room leader has planned a teddy bears picnic and here are pictures of our children making scones for the picnic. Yummy
