What a day to be at Australian! Did you watch Ariarne Titmus win gold today? These ‘spud-lete’s’ sure did and are inspired by her passion and dedication!

We are loving seeing pictures of our potato athletes coming through Mrs Korber’s inbox! This athlete is named ‘Potato Mash Barty’ and is competing in tennis at the Tokyo Olympics Keep them coming!

23/07/2021

To celebrate the Tokyo Olympics, we are inviting our children and families to get involved in a couple of fun activities over the coming fortnight. Firstly, we present the STM Potato Olympics! Our children are encouraged to create their own Potato Athlete (or Spud-lete) following the criteria sent via email. Please send any photos of your spudl-etes to Mrs Korber who will collate them in a potato parade! We will also have a club Google Meet next week (should lockdown continue - TBC).

Secondly, we know that there will be many families tuning into the Olympics this weekend! We have created our very own STM Olympic Family Quiz! Families are encouraged to answer the 18 questions and submit their answers. Once submitted, the quiz form will feed back your score and give you more information about the correct answers. We share another quiz in week 2 of the Olympics and will award a Gold, Silver and Bronze medal to the winning quiz masters in our community! To access the quiz, click the link below. You are welcome to share the quiz with your family and friends. Have fun!

Well done to everyone in our community for pushing hard to keep up your learning motivation throughout this week! It’s Friday! Our children who have been onsite worked together yesterday afternoon to create a range of circuits and switches after they completed their learning with their teacher. We are proud of our children, staff and parents, supporting each other whether at home or at school!

Check out this case study we participated in alongside the Google for Education Team.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of our amazing IT techs who have helped us along the way. We wouldn’t be able to do what we do with technology if it weren’t for Google.

Term 3 has suddenly become a little bit messier but we certainly aren’t going to crumble during remote learning! This little care reminder was sent to our prep parents last year by our passionate prep teachers and we’d like to send a shout out to everyone in our community as we start the week ahead.

Remember:
- we are here with you to support both your children and parents
- do your best but make well-being a priority. If you need to take a break that is fine.
- our live teaching classes are are aimed at providing a sense of continuity with your child’s teacher but also vital social connections with their peers

You are all smart cookies! Wishing everyone at STM a positive and safe week ahead!

St Thomas More Hadfield - We're still standing

A little flashback to lockdown last year when our staff created this little message of support for our community. This weekend it is still relevant as we enter lockdown number 5. We want you to know we are with you, standing arm in arm together for our children! We hope this brings a little smile to your dial today!

St Thomas More Hadfield - We're still standing During this hard time, our staff want to send our community a message of strength, of solidarity, of spirit. We're standing with you together. Side by side. ...

Today we welcome our children back to school for term 3. Last term, our school explored the through line of HISTORY AND TRADITION for Inquiry, and in doing so explored the significance and importance of Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander culture and perspectives. In particular, we focussed a great deal on the ritual of Welcome to, and Acknowledgement of Country. It may be a new term, but the daily reflection and paying our respects will be a practice that we continue to strengthen in our community. As part of NAIDOC week, the beautiful book 'Welcome to Country' by Aunty Joy Murphy has been shared for free on Story Box Library. We encourage you to hear her read and share this beautiful book with your family at home this week.

This NAIDOC week, our STM community would like to pay respects to the land on which our children learn, gather and play. We want to nurture a community who know better and raise children who will do better in our country’s future. In term 3 we sought to enhance our understanding of Indigenous and Torres Straight Islander perspectives and improve the way that we engage and interact with our land.

This year, the NAIDOC 2021 theme is – Heal Country! It calls for all of us to continue to seek greater protections for our lands, our waters, our sacred sites and our cultural heritage from exploitation, desecration, and destruction.

Day two of our remote club meets. Today we had over 50 children share their creations for our lego masters competition with the theme ‘Australians’ - tying in with our inquiry through line of history and tradition. So many incredible ideas and imaginations gone wild. I think that The Brickman would be proud!!!! Entries will be brought to the library next Tuesday (restrictions permitting) with the eventual winner to take home the prize of a chosen lego kit to the value of $100! Stay tuned!

Technology as a tool for learning. At STM we’ve always treated technology as a way of enhancing the learning experience rather than ‘being’ the experience. Remote learning had proved no different with our teachers looking for ways to bring our children together to learn and collaborate, albeit remotely. Today Mrs Mackintosh used a Google jam board to help the children organise their thinking in maths - focussing on new vocabulary. Learning is messy, it’s crazy and it’s fun. The year 3s enjoyed the chance to use it today! #googlereferenceschool #googleedu
