Seventeen years ago, Ana Maria Gamero left Peru in pursuit of a brighter future. She enrolled in a short welding course at Melbourne Polytechnic, then embarked on a welding apprenticeship in her late 30s to support her family. Despite facing industry biases and her own insecurities, Ana Maria remained dedicated to learning a trade.⁠

Ana Maria is a passionate advocate for women of all ages who aspire to pursue their dreams. She encourages them to overcome their fears and keep pushing forward:

‘You’re never too late to study. You’re never too late to get an apprenticeship. You’re never too late to become something that will help you grow. Everyone faces challenges, and I understand that fear can be overwhelming. But if you face your fears and take the chance to move forward, I’m confident that you’ll succeed—just as many other women have.’⁠

💡 Taryn Kaluza’s journey took her from fine arts printmaking to discovering a deep-rooted passion for plants.
