We got the chance to celebrate NAIDOC Week with one of our Aboriginal families from Wyndham Vale Montessori Centre - Ballan Campus. We were invited to join them at Werribee Park. We were able to witness the Aboriginal tradition together with all the children and families gathered at the park. We observed the smoking ceremony. " A smoking ceremony is an ancient aboriginal custom in Australia that involves burning various native plants to produce smoke, which has cleansing properties and the ability to ward off bad spirits from the people and the land and make pathway for a brighter future.
It is a privilege to get the opportunity in celebrating with one of our respected family from our centre.
Thank you to Michelle and to her children and family.

On the 29th of June, the dentist visited our child care centre and provided a check-up and cleaning for children over 2 years of age. The dentist educated the children on healthy foods and drinks and showed them how to brush their teeth properly.

We had lots of willing children see the dentist and all had clean and healthy teeth!

One of the benefits of getting children familiar with dentists early on is NOT to associate the dentist with pain. Going to the dentist needn’t always be about drilling holes in our teeth and getting cavities filled. Through activities such
as this, we can create a more positive association and remove any anxiety in our children about going to the dentist. It also helps the parents with the cost of services through child dental benefits.

This is one of many first-hand experiences we expose our children to as part of our experiential learning program.

" World Oceans Day" is celebrated on the 8th of June each year to create awareness among the people regarding the significance of oceans, and the importance of preserving and conserving oceanic resources. This year's theme is "Planet Ocean: The Tides Are Changing".
-We set up a Sensorial Ocean with blue-coloured water, sea animals, sand, seaweed, natural leaves, and some puzzles related to sea animals.
- We had open-ended discussions with children about the importance of the Oceans in our lives, how they provide us the seafood, and support biodiversity and the climate too.
-Children were sitting for the book reading time when we read a book about Oceans.
- Children did some colouring activities of different ocean animals. They chose their colour for this activity.
-They were engaged with the ocean animal puzzles during free play time.
-Children were sharing their knowledge by looking at the sensory tub and pointing at the sea animals and were very excited to touch the blue ocean water.
-We also encouraged children on how we can look after our Oceans and our environment. We pretend to add some plastic and paper into the sensory tub and spoke to the children about how harmful these rubbish items for the sea life and the environment are. So, the children were looking closely and, while wearing gloves, picked up the rubbish from the tub.
Lastly, they shouted, "It's clean "and put their gloves in the bin.

Why yellow? Yellow is the centre of the Aboriginal flag – the sun, the giver of energy and life. Yellow is also the Children's Ground colour – fresh, energetic and hopeful.

On behalf of Wyndham Vale Montessori Ballan Campus, we are promoting recycling by involving children in a recycling program for kitchen utensils from home if they are not using anymore for our music area outdoors or getting them to devise strategies to increase recycling activities such as re-use materials like cardboard boxes, one side paper, shredded paper, bottle tops, and cereal boxes for craft activities. We turn lights and fans off when we are not in the room, and we reuse water during water play experiences. For example, we collect buckets of water to use in the garden.
We will also introduce a worm farm to the centre and encourage children to follow a system that makes use of food scraps in the worm farm or alternately composting.
“We also educate the children about sustainability through books, puzzles, discussions, and practices"

Our educator Yaisha from Buffalo campus visited our centre showing some of the reptiles she had from her place. The children had allowed to observe and touch each reptile. Every demonstration covers physical characteristics, habitat, behaviour, and interesting facts about each reptile and we also look at what each reptile eats and where they come from, and how they protect themselves from predators.
We help to achieve the Early Years Learning Framework outcomes: Children are connected with and contribute to their world,
Children are confident and involved learners.

Ballan campus observed International firefighters day on the 4th of May. This is a special time to reflect on the sacrifices made by firefighters who have been lost in the line of duty or passed on before us. The children in our centre watched a short educational video showing the firefighter's act of bravery and courage while in the line of duty. They even wore safety helmets and safety vests.
We can see that the children are learning about our community helpers who are making sure that our communities and environment are as safe as possible.

Some of our highlights today at Ballan Campus. The children and parents from the Adventurer's room paraded with our Bunny, (Millie one of our Educational leaders) who entertained the children and families, with great dance moves with the children and distributed some chocolate eggs amongst the children and families. A big thank you to all the parents who did a great effort to come and celebrated with our Easter parade. Happy Easter everyone.

Harmony Day is a celebration of our cultural diversity- a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home. We wore the orange colour to represent Harmony Day. Traditionally, orange signifies social communication and meaningful conversations.
We encouraged the children to come to the centre wearing their national costumes.
It is an opportunity for all the children to embrace cultural diversity and to share what we have in common. Children draw paintings and create art that reflects their understanding of diversity. It is about inclusiveness, respect, and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background.
The children are learning respect in their wider community and a sense of belonging for everyone.

Clean Up Australia Day which helps to implement high-quality educational teaching lessons, which engage children in sustainability education, and is a great way to inspire children to learn about the impact of rubbish in our local environment while playing an active role in our community.
The children are learning discipline, skills, and a sense of responsibility and pride. These qualities will be useful as they grow older.
Remember, keeping the environment clean is important to being healthy.

Our children participated and were actively involved in helping us clean up our environment by picking up all the rubbish around the yard with the educator's active supervision.

On 17th March 2023, Ballan Campus held a very special incursion from Ambulance Victoria.
The children all sat down on the floor and listened as Tarun, the Ambulance officer, spoke all about the role of an ambulance officer in our community, what's inside an ambulance vehicle, and how to call an ambulance for help. Tarun then read the children a story about a boy who had to take a ride in the ambulance after falling from the playground.
The children then headed outside to see the ambulance; they turned inside the ambulance and explored all its equipment and features. The children also got to sit in an ambulance stretcher and try using a stethoscope.
This incursion was aimed to teach children basic first aid and how to respond in an emergency, it was very beneficial for our children.
What a great incursion we had! Thank you so much Ambulance Victoria for all the invaluable work you do in our community.

St. Patrick's Day is a cultural and religious holiday celebrated on the 17th of March, and named in honor of the patron saint of Ireland. The festival commemorates the arrival of Christianity in Ireland, as well as celebrating Irish heritage and culture. St. Patrick's Day is now celebrated by many people throughout the world, Irish and non-Irish alike, with food, drink, and all things green.
We celebrated with music and dancing outdoors. Marie, our centre Director, led the educators and the children with Irish dancing. The children took part and enjoyed the music and dance moves shown to us by Marie.
The children increase their flexibility and learn about Irish culture.
The children are developing their fine and gross motor skills through this experience and are connected to their community.

Celebrations for Holi take place all around the world, and people celebrate on the streets by throwing different coloured powders and water over each other. People also sing and dance to celebrate.

Our centre celebrated Holi by wearing colourful clothes and we made our own powder in different colours. The children helped in mixing the powder until the colours became visible and dried them under the sun☀️.

We all enjoyed the celebration with dancing and laughter while throwing and applying coloured powder on each others face.
The children learnt about colour coherence and it enhances the children's sensory-motor skills.

Happy Holi everyone from our Team- Ballan Campus.

The children enjoyed a day of cooking experience in our centre yesterday. Retna demonstrated to all the children on how to make a pancake batter from scratch. The children are learning some cooking skills such as reading recipes, counting and measuring ingredients.
Through a shared group experience, Pancake Day, also provides an opportunity for children to develop their emotional and social skills. Cooking with others is a great way to develop teamwork and communication skills, children can also learn about sharing and taking turns, and safely using common kitchen utensils and equipment.
We all enjoyed sharing pancakes for afternoon tea served with jam and butter.

After covid restrictions first time we got the opportunity to have the fire brigade 🧑🏾‍🚒👩‍🚒🚒🚒🔥 🔥 incursion again.😃😃

We had fire brigade🚨 🚒🚨incursion at Wyndham Vale Montessori, Ballan Campus.

Children were excited to see fire truck. Children were discussing about what is the fire fighters, equipments they carry and of about the water hose they are using. Children were also learn about what we need to do when the fire accident happens. Children had experience on how to hold the water hose and use it during the practice.

Fire safety education for children is the first line of defence against misuse of fire and fire fatalities and injuries.

One of the benefits of incursion is that these educational makes students curious for more knowledge on the topic. Students are eager to learn and see what they have learned in the classroom through books and open ended discussions.

Outcomes achieved is children are connected with and contribute to the world, children are effective communicators and children are confident and involved learners.
